(Dipyrido[3,2-a:2',3'-c]phenazine)(glycinato)copper(II) perchlorate: a novel DNA-intercalator with anti-proliferative activity against thyroid cancer…

2012

Abstract A novel copper(II) heteroleptic complex of dipyrido[3,2-a:2′,3′-c]phenazine (dppz) and glycinato (gly) as chelating ancillary ligand, [Cu(dppz)(gly)]ClO 4 ( 1 ), was synthesized and characterized. X-ray crystallography revealed that the coordination geometry of the cationic [Cu(dppz)(gly)] + unit is hexacoordinated and shows a distorted octahedral coordination geometry in the solid state, with the N,N and N,O chelating atoms of dppz and glycinato, respectively, in the square plane and in which the planar units are connected in a monodimensional polymeric array by the apical copper coordination of the second carboxylic oxygen atom. Biological assays showed that 1 exhibits a remarkab…

Induced Chirality in Confined Space on Halogen Gold Complexes

2015

The solubilization of HAuCl4 in toluene within optically active reverse micelles and lamellar structures formed by (1R,2S)-Dodecyl(2-hydroxy-1-methyl-2-phenylethyl)- dimethylammonium bromide (DMEB) has allowed us to evidence the complex phenomenology accompanying the confinement of Au salt within these nanostructures. Together with a chloride/bromide exchange process occurring in the first coordination sphere of an Au ion, UV−vis and electronic circular dichroism (ECD) spectra reveal the appearance of an induced dichroic signal attributable to Au complexes entrapped in the hydrophilic domain of the DMEB chiral nanostructures. Interestingly, change of the effective oxidation state and coordi…

The solid-state architecture of a metallosupramolecular polyelectrolyte

2006

Self-assembly of Fe(II) and the ditopic ligand 1,4-bis(2,2′:6′,2″-terpyridine-4′-yl)benzene results in equilibrium structures in solutions, so-called metallosupramolecular coordination polyelectrolytes (MEPEs). It is exceedingly difficult to characterize such macromolecular assemblies, because of the dynamic nature. Therefore, hardly any structural information is available for this type of material. Here, we show that from dilute solutions, where small aggregates predominate, it is possible to grow nanoscopic crystals at an interface. A near atomic resolution structure of MEPE is obtained by investigating the nanoscopic crystals with electron diffraction in combination with molecular model…

Syntheses, crystal structures and magnetic properties of di- and trinuclear croconato-bridged copper(ii) complexes

2002

The new croconato-bridged copper(II) compounds [Cu2(terpy)2(H2O)2(C5O5)](NO3)2·H2O (1) and [Cu3(phen)5(C5O5)2](CF3SO3)2 (2) (C5O52− = croconate, dianion of 4,5-dihydroxycyclopent-4-ene-1,2,3-trione; terpy = 2,2′:6′,2″-terpyridine; phen = 1,10-phenanthroline) have been prepared, and their crystal structures and variable temperature magnetic susceptibilities determined. The structure of complex 1 consists of croconato-bridged dinuclear [Cu2(terpy)2(H2O)2(C5O5)]2+ complex ions, nitrate counter ions and water of hydration. The croconato ligand exhibits an asymmetrical bis-bidentate coordination mode through four of its five oxygen atoms. The two crystallographically independent copper atoms hav…

Organometallic Complexes with Biological Molecules, VI. Diorganotin(IV) and Triorganotin(IV) Ampicillin and Methicillin Derivatives: Spectroscopic In…

1996

Derivatives of D(-)-α-aminobenzylpenicillin (ampicillin) and of 2,6-dimethoxyphenylpenicillin (methicillin) with diorgano- and triorgano-tin(IV) moieties have been synthesized. The stoichiometries of the compounds obtained were of the type R 2 SnCIL.H 2 O, R 3 SnCILNa.H 2 O [L=ampicillin or methicillin monoanion; R=Me, Bu, Ph] and R 2 Snampic 2 . 2H 2 O (ampic=ampicillin; R=Me, Bu, Ph). For R 2 SnCIL.H 2 O and R 3 SnCILNa.-H 2 O, infrared (IR) data suggest five-coordination around the tin(IV) atom; in R 2 Snampic 2 .2H 2 O six-coordination is most likely to occur. Thermogravimetric (TG) analysis excludes any involvement in the coordination of tin(IV) by water molecules, in any of the compou…

1998

Abstract Two dinuclear iron(II) complexes of formulae [Fe2(bpym)(C5O5)2(H2O)4]·2H2O (1) and [Fe2(bpym)(C4O4)2(H2O)6]·2H2O (2) (bpym = 2,2-bipyrimidine, C5O52 = dianion of croconic acid (4,5-dihydroxycylopent-4-ene-1,2,3-trione) and C4O42 = dianion of squaric acid (3,4-dihydroxycyclobut-3-ene-1,2-dione)) were prepared and their crystal structures (at 103 K) determined by X-ray diffraction methods. The structure of 1 consists of neutral centrosymmetric [Fe2(bpym)(C5O5)2(H2O)4] units and water molecules of crystallization which are linked by an extensive network of hydrogen bonds. The coordination geometry around each iron atom is that of a compressed octahedron with bpym nitrogen atoms and cr…

Coordinating behaviour of 3-methyl[1,2,3]triazolo[1,5-a]pyridine (tzpy): crystal and molecular structure and electronic properties of [Cu(tzpy)2(ONO2…

1999

Abstract The crystal and molecular structure of [Cu(tzpy) 2 (ONO 2 ) 2 (OH 2 )] (tzpy=3-methyl[1,2,3]triazolo[1,5- a ]pyridine) has been determined by X-ray diffraction methods. The crystal structure is built up of discrete [Cu(tzpy) 2 (ONO 2 ) 2 (OH 2 )] entities linked through hydrogen bonds. The coordination geometry around the copper atom can be described as an elongated and strongly distorted octahedron displaying a 4+1+1* coordination mode (CuN 2 O 2 O′O″ chromophore), with one of the nitrato groups acting as bidentate and involved in a weak off-the- z -axis coordination. Spectroscopic properties are interpreted on the basis of the above stereochemistry.

DNA-binding of nickel(II), copper(II) and zinc(II) complexes: structure-affinity relationships

2013

Abstract Nickel(II), copper(II) and zinc(II) complexes with the same ligands normally display analogous coordination geometry and binding mode toward DNA. However, although qualitatively alike in structure and properties, different DNA-binding ability has often been observed. This review surveys the most recent examples of binding of the three metal ions complexed with monodentate and chelating bidentate to tetradentate ligands to DNA. An attempt has also been made to rationalize the observed trend in the values of the intrinsic DNA-binding constant, Kb, in terms of structural and chemical features.
