Effects of refractive index changes on four-wave mixing bands in Er-doped photonic crystal fibers pumped at 976 nm.

2012

An experimental study of the effects of an auxiliary 976 nm pump signal on the four-wave mixing parametric bands generated with a 1064 nm pump in a normal dispersion Er-doped photonic crystal fiber is presented. The four-wave mixing signal and idler bands shift to shorter and longer wavelengths, respectively, with increasing 976 nm pump power. It is shown that the wavelength-dependent resonant refractive index change in the erbium-doped core under 976 nm pumping is at the origin of the effect.

<title>Pressure sensitivity of the side-glowing optical fibers</title>

2001

Remarkable impact of external mechanical pressure to the transmitted radiation intensity has been observed for glowing fibers with various silica core diameters and side- scattering efficiencies. A physical model on deformation- simulated light scattering has been developed and discussed. The results of experimental studies confirmed the basic model assumptions.© (2001) COPYRIGHT SPIE--The International Society for Optical Engineering. Parallel Recording of Single Quantum Dot Optical Emission Using Multicore Fibers

2016

Single Indium Arsenide Quantum Dot emission spectra have been recorded using a four-core, crosstalk-free, multicore fiber placed at the collection arm of a confocal microscope. We developed two different measurement set-ups depending on the relative configuration of the excitation and collection spots. In the single-matched mode, the emission from the excited area is collected by a single core in the multicore fiber, whereas the three remaining cores capture the emission from neighboring, non-excited areas. This procedure allows for the recording of the Quantum Dot emission from carrier diffusion between sample positions separated by more than 6 μm. In the multiple-matched mode, the ex…

The ANTARES telescope neutrino alert system

2012

The ANTARES telescope has the capability to detect neutrinos produced in astrophysical transient sources. Potential sources include gamma-ray bursts, core collapse supernovae, and flaring active galactic nuclei. To enhance the sensitivity of ANTARES to such sources, a new detection method based on coincident observations of neutrinos and optical signals has been developed. A fast online muon track reconstruction is used to trigger a network of small automatic optical telescopes. Such alerts are generated for special events, such as two or more neutrinos, coincident in time and direction, or single neutrinos of very high energy.

Risk factors associated with tongue lesions:a propensity score-matched case-control study

2021

Background to analyse the potential risk factors of tongue lesions, comparing the results with a control group. Material and Methods An observational, case-control study was designed. The study included a case group comprising 336 patients with tongue lesions and 336 sex and age-matched controls. We recorded tobacco/alcohol habits, presence of dentures, allergies, medical conditions, and medications. Statistical analysis was performed via logistic regression models to estimate the odds ratio (OR) adjusted for gender, age, tobacco, and alcohol using propensity score-matching analysis (PSM). Results According to the final PSM model, patients with tongue lesions were more likely to suffer from…

The impact of state affect on job satisfaction

2005

Affective events theory proposes affective experiences at work to cause job satisfaction. Using multiple measurements obtained in a diary study, affective experiences in terms of state positive and state negative affect (PA, NA) were related to state job satisfaction (N = 91). Trait measures were also collected. Results confirmed our hypothesis. First, aggregated state job satisfaction is strongly correlated with trait job satisfaction. Second, the relationship between state affect and state job satisfaction is not spurious: State affect impacts on state job satisfaction even if trait affect and trait job satisfaction are controlled. Third, the effect of state affect on job satisfaction mea…

Proactive personality and early employment outcomes: The mediating role of career planning and the moderator role of core self-evaluations

2020

Abstract This study examines the relationship between university graduates' proactive personality and two early employment outcomes (i.e., employment status and perceived overqualification). Specifically, we propose two moderated mediation models, one for each employment outcome, with career planning as a mediator and core self-evaluations as a moderator in the proactive personality-employment outcomes link. The study sample consisted of 315 graduates, and a time-lagged design with two data-collection points was implemented. When the outcome was employment status, contrary to our expectations, the indirect effect of proactive personality via career planning was not moderated by core self-ev…

Compensating Need Satisfaction across Life Boundaries: A Daily Diary Study

2017

Self-determination theory suggests that satisfaction of an individual's basic psychological needs (for competence, autonomy, and relatedness) is a key for well-being. This has gained empirical support in multiple life domains, but little is known about the way that need satisfaction interacts between work and home. Drawing from ideas of work–home compensation, we expect that the benefits of need satisfaction in the home domain are reduced when needs are satisfied in the work domain. We tested this hypothesis with a daily diary study involving 91 workers. Results showed that individuals particularly benefit from satisfaction of their need for competence in the home domain when it is not sati…

The Spanish validation of the Short Health Anxiety Inventory: Psychometric properties and clinical utility

2019

The Short Health Anxiety Inventory (SHAI) is a widely used self-report instrument to evaluate health anxiety. To assess the SHAI's factor structure, psychometric properties, and accuracy in differentiating Spanish non-clinical individuals from patients with severe health anxiety or hypochondriasis.A total of 342 community participants (61.6% women; The original two-factor structure was selected as the best structure, based on its parsimony and empirical support (Factor 1: Illness likelihood; Factor 2: Negative consequences of illness). Moreover, the Spanish version of the SHAI demonstrated good construct and concurrent and discriminant validity, and internal consistency. A cutoff of 40.5 (to…

Diferenças na ativação muscular entre a realização de flexões com apoio fixo e com um sistema de suspensão unilateral em forma de V em diferentes alt…

2014

This study was designed to analyze upper extremity and core muscle activation performing push-ups under different stability conditions and body positions. Trained university male students (n= 29) performed 3 push-ups each under stable conditions and using suspension device (AirFit Trainer ProTM) with their hands at 2 different heights (i.e., 10 and 65 cm). Push-up speed was controlled using a metronome and the testing order was randomized. The average amplitudes of the electromyographic root mean square of the Triceps Brachii, Upper Trapezius, Anterior Deltoid, Clavicular Pectoralis, Rectus Abdominis, Rectus Femoris, Lumbar Erector Spinae and Gluteus Maximus were recorded and normalized to …
