Angiographic Evaluation of Coronary Microvascular Dysfunction in Patients with Heart Failure and Preserved Ejection Fraction

2015

Background The aim of this study was to evaluate myocardial perfusion and coronary blood flow through validated angiography indices to assess whether there is greater MVD in patients with microvascular angina and HFPEF compared to those who do not have. Methods Our study was performed on a population of 286 patients with stable angina that underwent coronary angiography and echocardiography. They showed epicardial coronary arteries free from stenosis. We divided the sample into two categories: patients with HFPEF and those without. We calculated indices for each patient based on angiographic images, including TFC, MBG, and TMBS. Results Our sample compared two groups: HFPEF (n = 155) and no…

Anomalous origin of all three coronary arteries from right sinus of Valsalva

2016

AbstractCongenital anomalies of the coronary arteries, although uncommon, have the potential to cause serious myocardial damage, ischemic cardiomyopathy, and sudden cardiac death. We report a rare case of origin of all three coronaries from the right sinus of Valsalva.

Comparison of iodinated contrast media for the assessment of atherosclerotic plaque attenuation values by CT coronary angiography: observations in an…

2013

Objective: To compare the influence of different iodinated contrast media with several dilutions on plaque attenuation in an ex vivo coronary model studied by multislice CT coronary angiography. Methods: In six ex vivo left anterior descending coronary arteries immersed in oil, CT (slices/collimation 64x0.625 mm, temporal resolution 210 ms, pitch 0.2) was performed after intracoronary injection of a saline solution, and solutions of a dimeric isosmolar contrast medium (Iodixanol 320 mgl ml(-1)) and a monomeric high-iodinated contrast medium (Iomeprol 400 mgl ml(-1)) with dilutions of 1/80 (low concentration), 1/50 (medium concentration), 1/40 (high concentration) and 1/20 (very high concent…

Graft patency and late outcomes for patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction who underwent coronary surgery

2011

Objective: The aim of our study was to assess the long-term clinical outcomes and the grafts patency rates of patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) who underwent urgent or emergency coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). Materials: Participants in two previous studies comprising 207 STEMI patients undergoing on-pump (145 patients) or off-pump (62 patients) coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery in our institution were prospectively followed to assess late mortality, graft patency, and major adverse cardiac-related event (MACE) rates. Graft patency was evaluated by multi-detector computed tomography angiography 64-slice scan. Mean times of graft implantation…

Depiction of anomalous coronary vessels and their relation to the great arteries by magnetic resonance angiography

2000

Three-dimensional respiratory-gated coronary MR angiography (MRA) allowed accurate analysis of the anatomy of the coronary arteries and their relation to the adjacent anatomic structures in two patients with anomalous origin and proximal course of the coronary vessels. Together with functional tests, it decisively influenced further therapy.

Results of intracoronary stents for management of coronary dissection after balloon angioplasty.

1991

Dissections after coronary balloon angioplasty are risk factors for acute or subacute vessel closures. Intracoronary stenting was developed to avoid these complications by pressing the intimal and medial flaps against the vessel wall, thus reducing the risk of acute thrombosis. A total of 22 stents were implanted into the coronary arteries of 15 patients with dissections after balloon angioplasty causing angina pectoris or ischemic electrocardiographic changes. Stent delivery was successful in all cases. In 1 patient acute stent thrombosis was documented and treated successfully by thrombolytic therapy. Another patient underwent coronary artery bypass surgery 24 hours later because of persi…

Comparison of myocardial perfusion reserve before and after coronary balloon predilatation and after stent implantation in patients with postangiopla…

1996

Background Stents provide a scaffold for coronary arteries after angioplasty and inhibit elastic recoil. Methods and Results In 25 patients with postangioplasty restenosis of the left anterior descending artery, ECG-gated digital subtraction coronary angiograms were recorded at baseline and during hyperemia (12 mg papaverine IC) before and after balloon predilatation (PTCA), after implantation of a Palmaz-Schatz stent, and after 6 months. Densitometric evaluation revealed different time and density parameters to calculate two definitions of myocardial perfusion reserve (MPR1 and MPR2) and maximum flow ratio (MaxFR). Poststenotic MPR1 increased from 1.57±0.14 to 2.59±0.86 after PTCA and to …

Microvascular angina in diabetic patients with uninjured coronary arteries

2012

Received 14 March 2012; Accepted 26 July 2012 Abstract: Aims: The study aims at the evaluation, of patients with chest pain and uninjured coronary arteries, and the impact of diabetes mellitus on coronary microcirculation. Moreover we want to verify whether a correlation between myocardial scintigraphy results and coronary angiography or not. Methods: The study population included 316 patients (173 males,143 females) with uninjured coronary arteries. Patients with chest pain (208) were divided into two populations: diabetics (72) and non-diabetics (136).We compared 66 patients with a myocardial scintigraphy with results of angiographic indexes. On angiographic images we evaluated, on the th…
