Semisynthesis of new tetrahydrofuranic alkyl ester and furano-pyrone derivatives as inhibitors of the mitochondrial complex I
2002
Abstract Methoxymethylation of altholactone ( 1 ) led to the corresponding O -methoxymethyl derivative ( 3 ) in addition to the unexpected 6,7-dihydro-7-methoxy analogue ( 4 ), and two original tetrahydrofuranic (THF) alkyl esters ( 5 , 6 ). Moreover, when we accomplished a new method for the preparation of the furano-pyrone goniofupyrone ( 7 ) through 7-hydroxylation of 1 in acid medium, a minor compound ( 8 ) with an identical skeleton to that of compounds 5 and 6 was identified. Careful examination of the published spectral data of the reported styryl-lactones with an heptolide skeleton reveals that those structures possess also a THF alkyl ester skeleton. The revision of those structure…
Direct evaluation of the electron density correlation function of partially crystalline polymers
1980
A discussion of the general properties of the one-dimensional electron density correlation function K(z) of a partially crystalline polymer with lamellar structure shows that application of a graphical extrapolation procedure permits direct determination of the crystallinity, the specific inner surface, and the electron density difference ηc − ηa. The procedure is based upon the occurrence of a straight section in the “self-correlation” range of K(z). Curved and nonparallel lamellae do not invalidate the concept. In the case of heterogeneous samples composed of partially crystalline and totally amorphous regions, some of the parameters of the experimentally obtained correlation function, as…
Binding and isomerization energies for the Cu/CN and Cu(I)CN interactions
1993
Abstract Binding and isomerization energies of the CuCN, CuNC, CuCN+, and CuNC+ systems were investigated by means of a multireference CI perturbatively selected, MRCI-PS approach. The inclusion of the main dynamical correlation effects are evaluated. The binding energies for CuCN and CuNC are 4.37 and 4.03 eV, respectively, and those for CuCN+ and CuNC+ are 0.08 and 1.61 eV. Calculated isomerization energies are 7.86 and 35.98 kcal/mol for CuCN and Cu(I)CN isomerizations, respectively.
Dissociation energies within selected configuration interaction and perturbation theory
1993
Abstract Selected configuration interaction (CI) calculations and second-order perturbational theory are used to truncate systematically multireference single and double excitation CI (MRCI) expansions in the calculation of the bond dissociation energies of several systems like the single-bonded LiF molecule or the multiple-bonded N2, NO and O2 diatomic systems. The method is extended to compute the CH bond dissociation energy ofethene C2H4. It is shown how the proposed scheme (perturbation-selected MRCI (MRCI-PS)) is able to reproduce the accuracy of complete MRCI expansions with only a small number of configurations variationally evaluated.
Degradable cationic nanohydrogel particles for stimuli-responsive release of siRNA.
2014
Well-defined nanogels have become quite attractive as safe and stable carriers for siRNA delivery. However, to avoid nanoparticle accumulation, they need to provide a stimuli-responsive degradation mechanism that can be activated at the payload's site of action. In this work, the synthetic concept for generating well-defined nanohydrogel particles is extended to incorporate disulfide cross-linkers into a cationic nanonetwork for redox-triggered release of oligonucleotide payload as well as nanoparticle degradation under reductive conditions of the cytoplasm. Therefore, a novel disulfide-modified spermine cross-linker is designed that both allows disassembly of the nanogel as well as removal…
Effect of the supramolecular interactions on the nanostructure of halloysite/biopolymer hybrids: A comprehensive study by SANS, fluorescence correlat…
2020
The structural properties of halloysite/biopolymer aqueous mixtures were firstly investigated by means of combining different techniques, including small-angle neutron scattering (SANS), electric birefringence (EBR) and fluorescence correlation spectroscopy (FCS). Among the biopolymers, non-ionic hydroxypropylcellulose and polyelectrolytes (anionic alginate and cationic chitosan) were selected. On this basis, the specific supramolecular interactions were correlated to the structural behavior of the halloysite/biopolymer mixtures. SANS data were analyzed in order to investigate the influence of the biopolymer adsorption on the halloysite gyration radius. In addition, a morphological descript…
Photon correlation spectroscopy to study the dynamics of α- and β-relaxation in amorphous poly(Alkylmethacrylates) above Tg
2008
A short survey of the underlying principles of isotropic light scattering from amorphous bulk polymers is given. The interrelation between the time dependent longitudinal compliance and the autocorrelation function of density fluctuations is briefly reviewed and a comparison with poly(vinylacetate) PVAc is presented. For four poly-(alkylmethacrylates) - poly(methylmethacrylate) PMMA, poly(ethylmethacrylate) PEMA, poly(n-butylmethacrylate) PBMA and poly(n-hexylmethacrylate) PHMA - the results of photon spectroscopic studies are given and discussed in terms of the occurrence of primary and secondary relaxation processes within the accessible time range of the experiment.
Synthesis, Characterization and Preliminary Biological Evaluation of P(HPMA)-b-P(LLA) Copolymers: A New Type of Functional Biocompatible Block Copoly…
2010
We describe a synthetic pathway to functional P(HPMA)-b-P(LLA) block copolymers. The synthesis relies on a combination of ring-opening polymerization of L-lactide, conversion into a chain transfer agent (CTA) for the RAFT polymerization of pentafluorophenyl methacrylate. A series of block copolymers was prepared that exhibited molecular weights $\overline M _{\rm n}$ ranging from 7 600 to 34 300 g · mol(-1) , with moderate PDI between 1.3 and 1.45. These reactive precursor polymers have been transformed into biocompatible P(HPMA)-b-P(LLA) copolymers and their fluorescently labeled derivatives by facile replacement of the pentafluorophenyl groups. The fluorescence label attached to this new …
Structure of bottle-brush brushes under good solvent conditions: a molecular dynamics study.
2011
We report a simulation study for bottle-brush polymers grafted on a rigid backbone. Using a standard coarse-grained bead-spring model extensive molecular dynamics simulations for such macromolecules under good solvent conditions are performed. We consider a broad range of parameters and present numerical results for the monomer density profile, density of the untethered ends of the grafted flexible backbones and the correlation function describing the range that neighboring grafted bottle-brushes are affected by the presence of the others due to the excluded volume interactions. The end beads of the flexible backbones of the grafted bottle-brushes do not access the region close to the rigid…
Fluorescence Correlation Spectroscopy in Dilute Polymer Solutions: Effects of Molar Mass Dispersity and the Type of Fluorescent Labeling
2015
Fluorescence correlation spectroscopy (FCS) has become an important tool in polymer science. Among various other applications the method is often applied to measure the hydrodynamic radius and the degree of fluorescent labeling of polymers in dilute solutions. Here we show that such measurements can be strongly affected by the molar mass dispersity of the studied polymers and the way of labeling. As model systems we used polystyrene and poly(methyl methacrylate) synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization or free-radical polymerization. Thus, the polymers were either end-labeled bearing one fluorophore per chain or side-labeled with a number of fluorophores per chain proportional to…
