Spatial spillovers in France: a study on individual count data at the city level

2007

Our study aims to measure the effects of spatial R&D spillovers on firms' patent production at the city level. We use an original method to estimate the spatial dimension of spillovers using count data. The method, based on a generalized cross entropy approach, allows us to test spatial auto-correlation. The main result is that when there are local spillovers, their impact on knowledge production is different according to the geographical area and the sector.

Seismic networks are powerful tools for understanding active tectonic processes in a monitored region. Their numerous applications, from monitoring seismicity to characterizing seismogenic volumes and generated seismicity, make seismic networks essential tools for assessing seismic hazard in active regions. The ability to locate earthquakes hypocenters requires a seismic network with a sufficient number of optimally distributed, stations. Joint second-order parameter estimation for spatio-temporal log-Gaussian Cox processes

We propose a new fitting method to estimate the set of second-order parameters for the class of homogeneous spatio-temporal log-Gaussian Cox point processes. With simulations, we show that the proposed minimum contrast procedure, based on the spatio-temporal pair correlation function, provides reliable estimates and we compare the results with the current available methods. Moreover, the proposed method can be used in the case of both separable and non-separable parametric specifications of the correlation function of the underlying Gaussian Random Field. We describe earthquake sequences comparing several Cox model specifications.

Seasonal variation in diversity of marine benthic invertebrates leads to a positive species-genetic diversity correlation (SGDC)

Species-genetic diversity correlations (SGDCs) are useful indicators of processes that simultaneously affect diversity at multiple biological levels. We combined spatial and temporal sampling of 4 study sites in the Danish Isefjord-Roskilde Fjord Estuary at 4 time points over 1 yr to investigate the effect of seasonal variation on SGDCs. Species diversity was estimated as species richness from samples comprising 20752 individuals representing 51 benthic invertebrate taxa. The ALHAMBRA survey: evolution of galaxy clustering since z∼1

We study the clustering of galaxies as function of luminosity and redshift in the range $0.35 < z < 1.25$ using data from the Advanced Large Homogeneous Area Medium Band Redshift Astronomical (ALHAMBRA) survey. The ALHAMBRA data used in this work cover $2.38 \mathrm{deg}^2$ in 7 independent fields, after applying a detailed angular selection mask, with accurate photometric redshifts, $��_z \lesssim 0.014 (1+z)$, down to $I_{\rm AB} < 24$. Traditionally, intimate-partner violence has been considered a special type of crime that occurs behind closed doors, with different characteristics from street-level crime. The aim of this study is to analyze the spatial overlap of police calls reporting street-level and behind-closed-doors crime. We analyzed geocoded police calls in the 552 census-block groups of the city of Valencia, Spain, related to street-level crime (N = 26,624) and to intimate-partner violence against women (N = 11,673). Scattering of Co-Current Surface Waves on an Analogue Black Hole

We report on what is to our knowledge the first scattering experiment of surface waves on an accelerating transcritical flow, which in the analogue gravity context is described by an effective spacetime with a black-hole horizon. This spacetime has been probed by an incident co-current wave, which partially scatters into an outgoing countercurrent wave on each side of the horizon. The measured scattering amplitudes are compatible with the predictions of the hydrodynamical theory, where the kinematical description in terms of the effective metric is exact.

On the autocorrelation function of Rice processes for unsymmetrical doppler power spectral densities

In this paper, we derive an analytical expression for the ACF of Rice processes in the general case of unsymmetrical Doppler power spectral densities. This expression, which is obtained based on the multidimensional Gaussian distribution approach, is shown to cover the ACF of Rayleigh processes as a special case. Various numerical examples are presented to illustrate the impact of the channel parameters on the ACF. Computer simulations, considering the von Mises distribution for the angle of arrivals, are also performed to check the validity of the analytical result. Finally, the analysis of the covariance spectrum is addressed.
