Application of the new multimetric MMI_PL index for biological water quality assessment in reference and human-impacted streams (Poland, the Slovak R…
2014
Abstract A new multimetric MMI_PL index, which is based on the macroinvertebrate composition and combines six single key metrics, has already been implemented in Poland according to the requirements of the EU Water Framework Directive. The objectives of our survey were to assess the biological water quality using the new multimetric MMI_PL index in both reference and human-impacted streams, to analyze whether the values of the new multimetric index properly reflect the ecological status of the water in upland and mountain streams as well as to determine which environmental factors influence the distribution of benthic macroinvertebrates and the values of the metrics. The study was carried o…
Ordination analysis and bioindices based on zoobenthos communities used to assess pollution of a lake in southern Finland
1990
The suitability of an ordination method, detrended correspondence analysis (DCA), was tested in assessing the degree of pollution of a large lake on the basis of the zoobenthos communities. Lake Etela-Saimaa, in southern Finland, was originally oligotrophic but is now heavily loaded by effluents from the wood-processing industry. Comparison between areas was complicated by variation in the water depths of the lake sub-basins. A horizontal pollution gradient could, however, easily be detected by means of the DCA in both the profundal and sublittoral zones. The benthic quality index (BQI) based on the composition of the profundal chironomid fauna failed at some stations because the indicator …
The Genesis of the Italian School of Algebraic Geometry Through the Correspondence Between Luigi Cremona and Some of His Students
2023
Luigi Cremona is considered the founder of the Italian school of algebraic geometry. He formed a group of students of great value, very active in scientific research. Examining the letters from Eugenio Bertini, Ettore Caporali, and Riccardo De Paolis to Cremona preserved in the archive of the Istituto Mazziniano in Genoa, we have reconstructed their biographies, careers, studies, and relationships with their teacher. They had the merit of cultivating the scientific innovations of the period and passing them on to the subsequent generations.

The Correspondences of Luigi Cremona and Placido Tardy in the Libraries of Genoa
2018
We describe the historical framework and the main issues (biographical, scientific, political, etc.) of the correspondences of Placido Tardy and Luigi Cremona in the libraries of Genoa, which constitute an important contribution to the reconstruction of the History of Mathematics in the Italian “Risorgimento”. In particular, we mainly deal with the Cremona-Tardy, Betti-Tardy and Cremona-Guccia correspondences. Tardy’s letters are preserved at the Genoa University Library and Cremona’s letters at the Mazzini Institute of Genoa.
Supervised vs Unsupervised Latent DirichletAllocation: topic detection in lyrics.
2020
Topic modeling is a type of statistical modeling for discovering the abstract ``topics'' that occur in a collection of documents. Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) is an example of topic model and is used to classify text in a document to a particular topic. It builds a fixed number of topics starting from words in each document modeled according to a Dirichlet distribution. In this work we are going to apply LDA to a set of songs from four famous Italian songwriters and split them into topics. This work studies the use of themes in lyrics using statistical analysis to detect topics. Aim of the work is to underline the main limits of the standard unsupervised LDA and to propose a supervised…

Visualization of Jacques Lacan’s Registers of the Psychoanalytic Field, and Discovery of Metaphor and of Metonymy. Analytical Case Study of Edgar All…
2017
International audience; We start with a description of Lacan’s work that we then take into our analytics methodology. In a first investigation, a Lacan-motivated template of the Poe story is fitted to the data. A segmentation of the storyline is used in order to map out the diachrony. Based on this, it will be shown how synchronous aspects, potentially related to Lacanian registers, can be sought. This demonstrates the effectiveness of an approach based on a model template of the storyline narrative. In a second and more comprehensive investigation, we develop an approach for revealing, that is, uncovering, Lacanian register relationships. Objectives of this work include the wide and genera…
Kreacyjna zabawa z konwencją w "Listach" Michala Šandy do/i Karla Havlíčka Borovskiego
2020

The letters written between 1912-1927 by the young scholar Leo Spitzer to the distinguished Romanist Hugo Schuchardt, allow us to look at the situation of Hispanic Studies in its european context. At the same time, this correspondence describes the foundation of the RFE in a great period for Hispanic and Romance Philology.
