Morphometrics of Second Iron Age ceramics - strengths, weaknesses, and comparison with traditional typology.

2014

12 pages; International audience; Although the potential of geometric morphometrics for the study of archaeological artefacts is recognised, quantitative evaluations of the concordance between such methods and traditional typology are rare. The present work seeks to fill this gap, using as a case study a corpus of 154 complete ceramic vessels from the Bibracte oppidum (France), the capital of the Celtic tribe Aedui from the Second Iron Age. Two outline-based approaches were selected: the Elliptic Fourier Analysis and the Discrete Cosine Transform. They were combined with numerous methods of standardisation/normalisation. Although standardisations may use either perimeter or surface, the res…

Simulation investigations of the position of Fatigue Fracture Plane in materials with biaxial loads

1989

In the paper three methods of determination of the expected fatigue fracture plane position under random triaxial stress state have been presented. They are: weight function method, variance method and damage cumulation method. The weight function method for biaxial cyclic loadings has been analysed with digital simulation. The fatigue fracture plane position has been determined with mean values of the direction cosines of principal stress axes. Averaging has been done at angle values with use of weights. Eleven various weights have been presented and their usability has been analysed on the basis of experimental results obtained by Rotvel, and Nishihara-Kawamoto. The weights with good agre…

A new minimum trees-based approach for shape matching with improved time computing : application to graphical symbols recognition

2010

Recently we have developed a model for shape description and matching. Based on minimum spanning trees construction and specifics stages like the mixture, it seems to have many desirable properties. Recognition invariance in front shift, rotated and noisy shape was checked through median scale tests related to GREC symbol reference database. Even if extracting the topology of a shape by mapping the shortest path connecting all the pixels seems to be powerful, the construction of graph induces an expensive algorithmic cost. In this article we discuss on the ways to reduce time computing. An alternative solution based on image compression concepts is provided and evaluated. The model no longe…

On the analytical expression of the multicompacton and some exact compact solutions of a nonlinear diffusive Burgers’type equation

2018

International audience; We consider the nonlinear diffusive Burgers' equation as a model equation for signals propagation on the nonlinear electrical transmission line with intersite nonlinearities. By applying the extend sine-cosine method and using an appropriate modification of the Double-Exp function method, we successfully derived on one hand the exact analytical solutions of two types of solitary waves with strictly finite extension or compact support: kinks and pulses, and on the other hand the exact solution for two interacting pulse solitary waves with compact support. These analytical results indicate that the speed of the pulse compactons doesn't depends explicitly on the pulse a…

Field-free one-dimensional alignment of ethylene molecule

2006

International audience; We report an experimental study of non-adiabatic laser-induced molecular alignment of ethylene (C2H4) using a linearly polarized short laser pulse of moderate intensity. The information about the confinement of the C=C bond axis along the direction of the applied electric field is obtained by measuring the depolarization of a second short pulse of weak intensity interacting with the molecules after they have been exposed to the first pulse. The experimental data are compared with the numerical simulation of the Schr¨odinger equation written for the non-resonant interaction of an asymmetric top rigid rotor with a linearly polarized electric field. The field-free align…

A Digital Watermarking Algorithm Based on Quantization of the DCT: Application on Medical Imaging

2013

International audience; The objective of this paper is to elaborate a new watermarking algorithm applied to the medical imaging. This algorithm must be invisible, robust and has a rate, relatively high, integrating data. The proposed method uses the standard JPEG compression for the integration of medical data. The insertion block is inserted just after the quantization phase. To control identification and eventually the correction (if possible) of the inserted data, we use a series of turbocodes to recover the inserted data, after application of several attacks. The simulation studies are applied on MRI medicals images.

Multidentate Polysarcosine-Based Ligands for Water-Soluble Quantum Dots

2016

We describe the synthesis of heterotelechelic polysarcosine polymers and their use as multidentate ligands in the preparation of stable water-soluble quantum dots (QDs). Orthogonally functionalized polysarcosine with amine and dibenzocyclooctyl (DBCO) end groups is obtained by ring-opening polymerization of N-methylglycine N-carboxyanhydride with DBCO amine as initiator. In a first postpolymerization modification step, the future biological activity of the polymeric ligands is adjusted by modification of the amine terminus. Then, in a second postpolymerization modification step, azide functionalized di- and tridentate anchor compounds are introduced to the DBCO terminus of the polysarcosine…

Polysarcosine-functionalized lipid nanoparticles for therapeutic mRNA delivery

2020

Polysarcosine (pSar) is a polypeptoid based on the endogenous amino acid sarcosine (N-methylated glycine), which has previously shown potent stealth properties. Here, lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) for therapeutic application of messenger RNA were assembled using pSarcosinylated lipids as a tool for particle engineering. Using pSar lipids with different polymeric chain lengths and molar fractions enabled the control of the physicochemical characteristics of the LNPs, such as particle size, morphology, and internal structure. In combination with a suited ionizable lipid, LNPs were assembled, which displayed high RNA transfection potency with an improved safety profile after intravenous injection…
