First Trip Abroad: Expectations, Experiences and Stories of Transnational Romanians
2014
Abstract The paper analyzes transnational Romanians’ stories about their first trip abroad. The concept of physical mobility is seen in a broader framework for understanding transnational and cosmopolitan behaviours as well as international migration. In order to distinguish between different types of travelling for the first trip abroad the article is constructed keeping in mind the structural changes and constraints regarding physical mobility for Romanian citizens. During the process of transition from a communist country to the status of EU member, Romanian citizens’ stories about travelling abroad for the first time fundamentally changed. Labour migrants, asylum seekers, business trave…
Towards antagonistic cosmopolitanism. A theoretical attempt to work though the controversy about the shape of global democracy
2021
The article presents the analysis of the relation between two concepts, namely cosmopolitan democracy and agonistic multipolar order, whose author is Chantal Mouffe, in the context of the dispute about the preferred shape of global democracy. Both approaches are presented in the literature as opposing. The main thesis of the present article is the possibility of connecting them, but according to dialectical principles. The point is not about a smooth consensus but about the fact that the contradictions between those views can be treated as a condition of their interweaving. To this aim, I use two theoretical concepts: of antagonistic cosmopolitanism by Tamara Caraus and of antagonistic glob…

Parainoceramyan. gen. forParainoceramusCox, 1954 (exVoronetz, 1936)partim(Bivalvia, Jurassic)
2015
Several Jurassic pterioid bivalve species have been referred to Parainoceramus Cox by different authors, yet this has proved inadequate because the meaning of such genus has been compounded by nomenclatural and idiomatic problems, as well as misinterpretations. Hence, the new genus Parainoceramya is here proposed to accommodate several species previously referred to Parainoceramus, with Crenatula ventricosa J. de C. Sowerby as its type. Permian species originally assigned to Parainoceramus, including the type species, are referred to the genus Kolymia Likharev. All species attributed to Parainoceramus s.l. are reviewed and the new genus is compared with related genera. As here understood, t…

L'Atlante di Palermo neocosmopolita
2021

The Romantics of 1909: Arthur Symons, Pierre Lasserre and T. E. Hulme
2016
Arthur Symons’s The Romantic Movement in English Poetry (1909) has elicited scant discussion. Part dictionary of British authors born before 1800, part series of portraits of canonical Romantic poets, The Romantic Movement remains perplexing with its unclear purpose and ungainly format. This article argues that Symons’s monograph should be approached in the turn of the century debate on the definition and value of British Romanticism. As opposed to T. E. Hulme’s ‘Romanticism and Classicism’ (1912?), itself indebted to Pierre Lasserre’s Le Romantisme français. Essai sur la révolution dans les sentiments et dans les idées au XIXe siècle (1907), Symons’s study appears as a defence of the roman…
