A direct study of the vibrational bending effect in line mixing: The hot degenerate 1110 ← 0110 transition of CO2
1997
Abstract The study of the isotropiv Raman Q -branch of a hot band Π ← Π allows one to establish a direct connection between the vibration-rotation angular momentum coupling and the resulting spectra. Due to the l -doubling, the Q -branch is split into two subbranches characterized by either even or odd rotational quantum number j . The vibrational bending reduces the rotational transfer rates inside each of these subbranches by a factor of about two and induces an inter-subbranch coupling. The expected propensity rule towards conservation of the parity index for high rotational levels is well observed. Calculated spectra are in excellent agreement with CARS experiments for the v 1 + v 2 ← v…
Microscopic Dynamics of Hard Ellipsoids in their Liquid and Glassy Phase
2001
To investigate the influence of orientational degrees of freedom onto the dynamics of molecular systems in its supercooled and glassy regime we have solved numerically the mode-coupling equations for hard ellipsoids of revolution. For a wide range of volume fractions $\phi$ and aspect ratios $x_{0}$ we find an orientational peak in the center of mass spectra $\chi_{000}^{''}(q,\omega)$ and $\phi_{000}^{''} (q,\omega)$ about one decade below a high frequency peak. This orientational peak is the counterpart of a peak appearing in the quadrupolar spectra $\chi_{22m}^{''}(q,\omega)$ and $\phi_{22m}^{''}(q,\omega)$. The latter peak is almost insensitive on $\phi$ for $x_{0}$ close to one, i.e. f…
Dynamical precursor of nematic order in a dense fluid of hard ellipsoids of revolution
2004
We investigate hard ellipsoids of revolution in a parameter regime where no long range nematic order is present but already finite size domains are formed which show orientational order. Domain formation leads to a substantial slowing down of a collective rotational mode which separates well from the usual microscopic frequency regime. A dynamic coupling of this particular mode into all other modes provides a general mechanism which explains an excess peak in spectra of molecular fluids. Using molecular dynamics simulation on up to 4096 particles and on solving the molecular mode coupling equation we investigate dynamic properties of the peak and prove its orientational origin.
Experimental Constraint on Axionlike Particles over Seven Orders of Magnitude in Mass
2021
We use our recent electric dipole moment (EDM) measurement data to constrain the possibility that the HfF+ EDM oscillates in time due to interactions with candidate dark matter axionlike particles (ALPs). We employ a Bayesian analysis method which accounts for both the look-elsewhere effect and the uncertainties associated with stochastic density fluctuations in the ALP field. We find no evidence of an oscillating EDM over a range spanning from 27 nHz to 400 mHz, and we use this result to constrain the ALP-gluon coupling over the mass range 10-22-10-15 eV. This is the first laboratory constraint on the ALP-gluon coupling in the 10-17-10-15 eV range, and the first laboratory constraint to pr…

Atomic transition probabilities of F I spectral lines from3s−3pand3p−3dtransition arrays
1999
We have measured the relative transition probabilities of about $100 3s\ensuremath{-}3p$ and $3p\ensuremath{-}3d$ lines of neutral fluorine in the visible and near-infrared spectrum with a wall-stabilized high-current arc, which is operated under conditions very close to partial local thermodynamic equilibrium. The set of measured lines includes about 40 intersystem transitions. Our data have been placed on an absolute scale by normalizing several strong transitions to the results of the OPACITY Project calculations, which are expected to be quite accurate for such transitions. We estimate that the uncertainties of our absolute transition probability values are in the \ifmmode\pm\else\textp…
σ→γγWidth from Nucleon Electromagnetic Polarizabilities
2008
The lightest QCD resonance, the $\ensuremath{\sigma}$, has been recently fixed in the $\ensuremath{\pi}\ensuremath{\pi}$ scattering amplitude. The nature of this state remains nowadays one of the most intriguing and difficult issues in particle physics. Its coupling to photons is crucial for discriminating its structure. We propose a new method that fixes this coupling using only available precise experimental data on the proton electromagnetic polarizabilities together with analyticity and unitarity. By taking into account the uncertainties in the analysis and in the parameter values, our result is ${\ensuremath{\Gamma}}_{\mathrm{pole}}(\ensuremath{\sigma}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremat…
Dynamics of Uniaxial Hard Ellipsoids
2007
We study the dynamics of monodisperse hard ellipsoids via a new event-driven molecular dynamics algorithm as a function of volume fraction $\phi$ and aspect ratio $X_0$. We evaluate the translational $D_{trans}$ and the rotational $D_{rot}$ diffusion coefficient and the associated isodiffusivity lines in the $\phi-X_0$ plane. We observe a decoupling of the translational and rotational dynamics which generates an almost perpendicular crossing of the $D_{trans}$ and $D_{rot}$ isodiffusivity lines. While the self intermediate scattering function exhibits stretched relaxation, i.e. glassy dynamics, only for large $\phi$ and $X_0 \approx 1$, the second order orientational correlator $C_2(t)$ sho…
Coupling of theXΣ+1andaΣ+3states ofKRb
2007
A comprehensive study of the electronic states at the $4s+5s$ asymptote in $\mathrm{KRb}$ is presented. Abundant spectroscopic data on the $a\phantom{\rule{0.2em}{0ex}}^{3}\ensuremath{\Sigma}^{+}$ state were collected by Fourier-transform spectroscopy, which allows one to determine an accurate experimental potential energy curve up to $14.8\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}\mathrm{\AA{}}$. The existing data set [C. Amiot et al., J. Chem. Phys. 112, 7068 (2000)] on the ground state $X\phantom{\rule{0.2em}{0ex}}^{1}\ensuremath{\Sigma}^{+}$ was extended by several additional levels lying close to the atomic asymptote. In a coupled channels fitting routine complete molecular potentials for both electr…
Translational and rotational diffusion in supercooled orthoterphenyl close to the glass transition
1992
Self diffusion coefficients in supercooled orthoterphenyl (OTP) have been determined down toD t =3·10−14 m2s−1 using a1H-NMR technique applying static field gradients up to 53T m−1 In a range of more than two decades theD t values agree with those of photochromic tracer molecules of the same size determined by forced Rayleigh scattering down to the glass transition temperatureT g . A change of mechanism is found for translational diffusion atT c ≈1.2T g whereD t is proportional to the inverse shear viscosityη −1 atT>T c butD t ∼η ξ with ξ=0.75 atT<T c . Rotational correlation times determined by2H-NMR stimulated echo techniques in deuterated OTP remain proportinal toη −1 down toT g . Our re…
