Selective Stepwise Suzuki Cross-Coupling Reaction for the Modelling of Photosynthetic Donor−Acceptor Systems
2009
A Suzuki reaction performed as a selective stepwise substitution of two boryl groups on a diarylporphyrin precursor is reported for straightforward construction of a porphyrin trimer, modeling photosynthetic donor-acceptor systems.
Probability and algorithmics: a focus on some recent developments
2017
Jean-François Coeurjolly, Adeline Leclercq-Samson Eds.; International audience; This article presents different recent theoretical results illustrating the interactions between probability and algorithmics. These contributions deal with various topics: cellular automata and calculability, variable length Markov chains and persistent random walks, perfect sampling via coupling from the past. All of them involve discrete dynamics on complex random structures.; Cet article présente différents résultats récents de nature théorique illustrant les interactions entre probabilités et algorithmique. Ces contributions traitent de sujets variés : automates cellulaires et calculabilité, chaînes de Mark…
Titanium Dioxide Waveguides for Data Transmissions at 1.55 µm and 1.98 µm
2017
International audience; We demonstrate error free transmissions of 10 Gbps signals in titanium dioxide waveguides at wavelengths of 1.55 or 2 µm. An efficient coupling of light is achieved thanks to metal grating couplers and we have checked that the component could be used with standard CWDM SFP+ devices.
Bloch mode coupling investigation in silicon-on-insulator W1 photonic crystal waveguide
2004
We report in this paper the study of a W1 photonic crystal waveguide which supports two Bloch modes having different parity. A monomode ridge waveguide etched in a Silicon-On-Insulator substrate and connecting to the photonic crystal waveguide allows us to excite the even Bloch mode. Transmission measurements, performed on a broad spectral range, evidence the even mode propagation along the defect line and experimental spectrum is discussed in light of band diagram and FDTD calculations. Then spectrally resolved near-field patterns obtained by using a scanning near field optical microscope in collection mode for wavelengths inside and outside the multimode region of the photonic crystal wav…
Optimal Robust Quantum Control by Inverse Geometric Optimization
2020
International audience; We develop an inverse geometric optimization technique that allows the derivation of optimal and robust exact solutions of low-dimension quantum control problems driven by external fields: we determine in the dynamical variable space optimal trajectories constrained to robust solutions by Euler-Lagrange optimization; the control fields are then derived from the obtained robust geodesics and the inverted dynamical equations. We apply this method, referred to as robust inverse optimization (RIO), to design optimal control fields producing a complete or half population transfer and a NOT quantum gate robust with respect to the pulse inhomogeneities. The method is versat…
The embodied consciousness
2020
Consciousness is a polysemous concept including among others self-awareness (of his body ...), the awareness of the environment around us, the awareness of the other or even narrative awareness (a kind of inner monologue that can be part of more extended temporalities). To this list could be added the consciousness attached to each sensory organ in which visual perception would be overrepresented. Compared to the consciousness linked to vestibular sensory signals or proprioception (if however these can generate separate consciousnesses), "visual awareness" lends itself more easily to introspection. In Occident, all these consciousnesses generally refer to a knowledge of self by duplication …
Global equatorial variability of 850 and 200 hPa zonal winds from rawinsondes between 1963 and 1989
1995
The longitude-height-time variability of 3-month averaged zonal wind anomalies at 850 and 200 hPa over the equatorial area (5{degrees}N-5{degrees}S) is analyzed using a three-dimensional dataset constructed from rawinsonde data (1963-1989). The first mode, closely related to the Southern Oscillation Index, suggests a strong vertical coupling associated with a horizontal out-of-phase pattern between the central/western Pacific and the remainder of the equatorial belt. The vertical coupling appears to be phase-locked to the annual cycle with strongest intensities found over South America and near the maritime continent early in the calendar year and over the Pacific basin and Africa during th…
Rapid odorant release in mammalian odour binding proteins facilitates their temporal coupling to odorant signals.
2010
; We have measured the effect of rat odorant-binding protein 1 on the rates of ligand uptake and liquid-to-air transfer rates with a set of defined odorous compounds. Comparison of observed rate constants (k(obs)) with data simulated over a wide range of different kinetic and thermodynamic regimes shows that the data do not agree with the previously held view of a slow off-rate regime (k(off) <0.0004 s(-1)). We propose that a rapid koff would be a necessary requirement for such a system, since slow odorant-release rates would result in significant decorrelation between the olfactory world and odour perception. Electronic noses : specify or disappear
2000
Abstract When the quality control is achieved by using GC or GC/MS, the apparatus must comply with the applicable norms, but what about “electronic noses”? End users demand for formal specifications for selectivity, sensitivity, repeatability and sample throughput. The behavioural modelling of electronic olfactometers may provide specifications for these required parameters. This will allow both the measure itself, and evaluate the influence of the experimental errors on the sample classification. Users may expect to find a methodology allowing the performances of systems to be checked before any final decision and during routine use. We have demonstrated that the system sensitivity and log…
