Galdós, el periodismo y la escritura. Reflexiones a partir del cuento "El artículo de fondo"

2018

Galdós was experiencing in his formation and in his first stage of production the narrative space of the press. The short story “El artículo de fondo” was published in 1871 in Revista de España, in 1879, in three installments in El Océano and reappears in 1889 in a collection of brief narrative texts that accompany his Torquemada en la hoguera. This study tries to focus, on the one hand, the variants introduced by the author, especially in the last edition, in order to evaluate the process of maturation of galdosian writing. On the other hand, taking into account the essentially heterotextual consistency of this short story, it try to put it in relation to the pluritextual narrative texture…

Media, Power and Identity. Discursive Strategies in Ideologically-Oriented Discourses

2018

This book represents the third noteworthy product of the International Research Network MEMITÀ - “Memory, Identity, Integration to identify analysis models in media communication” (www.memita.scienzeumanistiche.eu). The most ambitious goal of MEMITA’ Network, by means of the produced reflections, is, perhaps, to facilitate social, cultural and behavioural transformations in contemporary societies, namely with a more conscious production and a more participatory reception of discourses, instruments from which everything is created and everything is transformed. The essays within this book constitute a critical approach from a linguistic and cultural point of view regarding authoritarianism’s…

On the discursive self-construction of expats, behavior and values

2018

Considering that learners engage in the creation of new educational scenarios, often using digital media, travelogues have been analysed because they represent the digital development of a well-established genre within tourism discourse. This study focuses on the discursive construction of expats as 1) integrated tourist and 2) travelogue writers. I consider the occurrence of an Us as opposed/assimilated with a Them in the expression of values, behaviors and spaces by analyzing a corpus made up of articles taken from the most accessed travel webzines for expats at the time of the research. Then I analyse the thematic structures and techniques of this textual typology. The paper may help to …

Dynamic aphasia in PSP: A deficit in generating a fluent sequence of novel thought

2006

We report a patient (KAS) who presented with pure dynamic aphasia in the context of progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP). KAS had the hallmark propositional language impairment in the context of preserved naming, reading, repetition and comprehension skills. The severity of KAS's propositional language deficit was demonstrated to be comparable to other dynamic aphasic patients. Remarkably, despite virtually abolished propositional speech, KAS was unimpaired on word and sentence level generation tasks that required a single response. This dissociation was further investigated on two discourse level generation tasks that required the generation of multiple connected sentences. Quantitative pr…

Peer Reputation Configurations and Associations with Friendship Adjustment

2023

Peer reputation (PR) refers to how peer groups collectively view an individual in terms of socio-behavioral characteristics, such as aggression, social withdrawal, leadership, and prosociality. Despite considerable research on PR, few studies have considered PRs in relation to indices of friendship, particularly with a person-centered approach. The goal of the current study was to adopt such an approach and identify peer reputation configurations and their defining characteristics, and to examine how such configurations are linked to friendship prevalence and quality. Four hundred and twenty-six Italian seventh-grade students (57.3% male, M-age = 12.07) completed peer nomination measures of…

Mothering, fathering, and Italian adolescents' problem behaviors and life satisfaction: Dimensional and typological approach

2013

In this study, we explored the relationship between mothering, fathering and Italian adolescents’ problem behaviors and life satisfaction by using both typological and dimensional approaches. From a typological perspective, we examined variations in adolescent adjustment as a function of maternal and paternal parenting styles. From a dimensional perspective, we examined the relationships between crucial dimensions of perceived mothering and fathering (acceptance and strictness) and their contribution to adolescents’ adjustment, for girls and boys separately. A total of 213 adolescents (99 boys and 114 girls), aged from 14 to 16 years of age, completed self-report measures on perceived paren…

Experiences that “reach the heart”. Taking part in a whole body dissection course at the University of Malta

2017

This article summarizes the activities of the four-week whole body dissection course the main authors participated in in August 2016 at the dissection hall of the University of Malta (UoM). Our team comprised 10 second-year medicine students from University of Palermo chosen among who had passed the Human Anatomy exam brilliantly. The need to move to the UoM to take part in such activity derives from the lack of practice approach in Italian schools of medicine, focused mostly on the theoretical studies, neglecting practical experience. The heart dissection reveal itself as a huge opportunity to finally apply our anatomical knowledge, improving it and enabling us to compare images took from …
