Approximation of Measurement Results of “Emergency” Signal Reception Probability
2017
Abstract The intended aim of this article is to present approximation results of the exemplary measurements of EMERGENCY signal reception probability. The probability is under-stood as a distance function between the aircraft and a ground-based system under established conditions. The measurements were approximated using the properties of logistic functions. This probability, as a distance function, enables to determine the range of the EMERGENCY signal for a pre-set confidence level.
Latvijas alus tirgus analīze un SIA “Jaunpils alus” konkurētspējas izvērtējums
2022
Comparison between 3-ph and 6-ph PMSM drives for the electric propulsion of unmanned aerial vehicles
2021
The full electric aircraft concept requires accurate design and suitable choice and integration of all the used components. Obviously, the electric propulsion drive is one of the most important on-board equipment. Both power converters and electric motors must have low weight, suitable overload capacity and high reliability. In this paper, two possible solutions of electric propulsion motor for unmanned aerial vehicle are investigated. Sizes, weight and some features of a three-phase PMSM motor are compared to those of a six-phase motor obtained by an appropriate rewinding of the armature, with fixed stator and rotor magnetic circuits. The losses obtained from the numerical analyzes are com…
The Community Response to Aircraft Noise Around Six Spanish Airports
1993
Abstract The community response to aircraft noise has been studied through a social survey. A total of 1800 persons living in the vicinity of six major Spanish airports have been interviewed at their homes concerning the environmental quality of the area, dissatisfaction with road traffic noise and aircraft noise, activities interfered with by noise, most disturbing aircraft types, and subjective evaluation of airport impact. All the responses obtained in this survey have been compared with aircraft noise levels corresponding to the residence locations of the people interviewed (values of NEF levels were calculated with the INM model). The results obtained in this work allow one to evaluate…
A study of noise transmission through cylindrical shell using modal truncation approach
2011
International audience; The study of the vibroacoustic behaviour of cylindrical structure like aircraft fuselage requires the establishment of very large models, and the numerical results which can be obtained are often difficult to interpret. On the other hand, the study of simple structures such as cylindrical shells is useful to validate the criteria and tools that can be used to simplify the models of complex structures. The presented study concerns the sound transmission through a cylindrical shell coupled to a cavity and subjected to an incident acoustic wave. Noise reduction is obtained and validated by a numerical method which uses structural and acoustical modes. A criterion for se…
A preliminary method for the numerical prediction of the behavior of air bubbles in the design of Air Cavity Ships
2016
Air-cavity ships (ACS) are advanced marine vehicles that use air injection under hull to improve the vessel’s hydrodynamic characteristics. Although the concept of drag reduction by supplying gas under the ship’s bottom was proposed in the 19th century by Froude and Laval, at this time there are not many systematic studies on this subject. This paper is a preliminary work with the purpose of being a basic tool for the design of the ACS with computational fluid dynamic methods. The study aims to conduct a series of computational tests to compare the numerical models of bubble with experimental data. The first step of this study was to investigate the behavior of free bubble in water, conside…
The potential of rotorcraft for intercity passenger transport
2007
Abstract There are many high-speed rail projects in Europe at different stages of development. They are supported on environmental grounds and as a means of reducing congestion on other modes, including aviation. High-speed rail, however requires major investment costs, takes a long time to come online, and involves considerable financial risks. A potential alternative that overcomes some of these problems makes use of rotorcrafts. This paper assesses the potentiality of civil rotorcrafts as part of the air transport system. Discrete mode choice models are used to forecast traveller choice behaviour when the rotorcraft is introduced and financial evaluations performed looking at the operati…
The Sequential Switching Shunt Maximum Power Regulator and its Application in the Electric Propulsion System of a Spacecraft
2007
This paper describes a baseline solution of a Power Conditioning and Distribution Unit (PCDU) for Electrical Propulsion (EP) systems. The solution adopted uses two high efficiency, low-mass power regulators; a solar array regulator (SAR) based on the classical Sequential Switching Shunt Regulator with Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) capability followed by a step-up converter to achieve the desired regulated bus voltage. This paper focuses on the first part of the PCDU, the Sequential Switching Shunt Maximum Power Regulator (S3MPR). This electrical architecture has been adapted and recently proposed for the Electric Propulsion power system of the European and Japanese Mercury Mission (Be…
Air quality and relative humidity in commercial aircrafts: an experimental investigation on short-haul domestic flights
2013
Abstract Nowadays the achievement of a comfortable environment in aircraft cabins is a factor of paramount importance in air travel business competition; on the other hand, the need of reducing the propulsion fuel cost has driven the airline companies to adopt air handling systems that may reduce the levels of thermal comfort and air quality inside the cabins of commercial airliners. With the aim of contributing to a better knowledge of this matter, this paper reports the results of an experimental study upon the indoor air quality aboard commercial aircrafts for 14 domestic flights less than 1 h and half long. The parameters monitored were temperature, relative humidity and carbon dioxide …
Memory irradiation measurements for the European SMART-1 spacecraft
2005
Three different types of memory circuits, that are intended to be used on board of the European satellite SMART-1, have been radiation hardness tested according to ESA's specification. Since the satellite is equipped with an electric propulsion engine, the spacecraft will be exposed to radiation during a long time when passing the radiation belt of the Earth. A standard DRAM circuit from SAMSUNG will serve as building block of the mass memory of SMART-1, and has been tested for total dose and proton induced single event upset (SEU). The DRAM memory showed surprisingly good resistance against radiation. The proton SEU cross sections for the radiation tolerant SRAM and FIFO circuits have also…
