The nucleon axial mass and the MiniBooNE quasielastic neutrino-nucleus scattering problem

The charged-current double differential neutrino cross section, measured by the MiniBooNE Collaboration, has been analyzed using a microscopical model that accounts for, among other nuclear effects, long range nuclear (RPA) correlations and multinucleon scattering. We find that MiniBooNE data are fully compatible with the world average of the nucleon axial mass in contrast with several previous analyses which have suggested an anomalously large value. We also discuss the reliability of the algorithm used to estimate the neutrino energy.
Search for particles decaying into a Z boson and a photon in pp¯ collisions at s=1.96 TeV

Abstract We present the results of a search for a new particle X produced in p p ¯ collisions at s = 1.96 TeV and subsequently decaying to Zγ. The search uses 0.3 fb−1 of data collected with the DO detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We set limits on the production cross section times the branching fraction σ ( p p ¯ → X ) × B ( X → Z γ ) that range from 0.4 to 3.5 pb at the 95% C.L. for X with invariant masses between 100 and 1000 GeV / c 2 , over a wide range of X decay widths.
Initial-state radiation measurement of thee+e−→π+π−π+π−cross section

We study the process e+e- -> pi+pi-pi+pi-gamma, with a photon emitted from the initial-state electron or positron, using 454.3 fb^-1 of data collected with the BABAR detector at SLAC, corresponding to approximately 260,000 signal events. We use these data to extract the non-radiative sigma(e+e- ->pi+pi-pi+pi-) cross section in the energy range from 0.6 to 4.5 Gev. The total uncertainty of the cross section measurement in the peak region is less than 3%, higher in precision than the corresponding results obtained from energy scan data.
Determination of the total photo-absorption cross section of 197Au from () reaction cross sections

Abstract Cross sections for the reactions 197Au ( γ, ℩ n ) (x ⩽ 12) have been measured for bremsstrahlung end-point energies in the range 60–340 MeV. From these dominant cross sections, the total photon absorption cross section is determined using a cascade-evaporation calculation to account for the missing reaction channels. The enhancement factor for the classical E1 sum rule is found to be 0.93 ± 0.10.
Coherent γ-production in (p,p′) reactions in nuclei in the Δ resonance region

Abstract We study the process of coherent photon production in nuclei induced by the (p,p′) reaction around the Δ excitation region. The cross sections are about 200 times smaller than the corresponding ones for coherent pion production but within measurable range with present machines. The cross section selects the transverse part of the NN→NΔ transition, while coherent pion production selects the longitudinal one. The reactions are complementary and show different aspects of Δh propagation through the nucleus which are discussed here.
Total photofission cross section for 238U as a substitute for the photon absorption cross section in the energy range of the first baryon resonances

Abstract The total photofission cross section σγ, F for 238U has been measured as a substitute for the total photon absorption cross section σtot in the energy range of the first baryon resonances (50⩽Eγ⩽800 MeV). The experiments were performed at the tagging facility of the new 855 MeV Mainz Microton MAMI B using monochromatic photons and a sophisticated 4π-arrangement of position sensitive fragment detectors. The measured cross section agrees in the Δ-resonance region with previous results and the so-called universal curve αtot/A. In the energy region of the D13-resonance near 710 MeV resonancelike structure could be observed as is seen for the free proton.

MONSTER: a TOF Spectrometer for beta-delayed Neutron Spectroscopy

β-delayed neutron (DN) data, including emission probabilities, Pn, and energy spectrum, play an important role in our understanding of nuclear structure, nuclear astrophysics and nuclear technologies. A MOdular Neutron time-of-flight SpectromeTER (MONSTER) is being built for the measurement of the neutron energy spectra and branching ratios. The TOF spectrometer will consist of one hundred liquid scintillator cells covering a significant solid angle. The MONSTER design has been optimized by using Monte Carlo (MC) techniques. The response function of the MONSTER cell has been characterized with mono-energetic neutron beams and compared to dedicated MC simulations.

Background: Fifty percent of the heavy element abundances are produced via slow neutron capture reactions in different stellar scenarios.
