Cross-correlation of whitened vibration signals for low-speed bearing diagnostics

2019

Abstract Rolling-element bearings are crucial components in all rotating machinery, and their failure will initially degrade the machine performance, and later cause complete shutdown. The period between an initial crack and complete failure is short due to crack propagation. Therefore, early fault detection is important to avoid unexpected machine shutdown and to aid in maintenance scheduling. Bearing condition monitoring has been applied for several decades to detect incipient faults at an early stage. However, low-speed conditions pose a challenge for bearing fault diagnosis due to low fault impact energy. To reliably detect bearing faults at an early stage, a new method termed Whitened …

A Geometrical Three-Ring-Based Model for MIMO Mobile-to-Mobile Fading Channels in Cooperative Networks

2011

Published version of an article published in the journal: Eurasip Journal on Advances in Signal Processing. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2011/892871. OA This paper deals with the modeling and analysis of narrowband multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) mobile-to-mobile (M2M) fading channels in relay-based cooperative networks. In the transmission links from the source mobile station to the destination mobile station via the mobile relay, non-line-of-sight (NLOS) propagation conditions are taken into account. A stochastic narrowband MIMO M2M reference channel model is derived from the geometrical three-ring scattering model, where it is assumed that an infi…

FastEMD–CCA algorithm for unsupervised and fast removal of eyeblink artifacts from electroencephalogram

2020

Abstract Online detection and removal of eye blink (EB) artifacts from electroencephalogram (EEG) would be very useful in medical diagnosis and brain computer interface (BCI). In this work, approaches that combine unsupervised eyeblink artifact detection with empirical mode decomposition (EMD), and canonical correlation analysis (CCA), are proposed to automatically identify eyeblink artifacts and remove them in an online manner. First eyeblink artifact regions are automatically identified and an eyeblink artifact template is extracted via EMD, which incorporates an alternate interpolation technique, the Akima spline interpolation. The removal of eyeblink artifact components relies on the el…

<title>Time-resolved fluorescence study of interaction of the monoclonal anticoproporphyrin antibodies and (Pt-)coproporphyrin</title>

1995

Mechanisms of ligand binding by monoclonal anti-coproporphyrin antibodies are studied by steady-state and time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy by use of a picosecond laser system. The antibodies quench the coproporphyrin (CP) fluorescence, but the CP fluorescence spectra show a strong shift of maxima at high concentrations of antibodies (Ab) or their Fab fragment. This can be explained by a special type of Ab or Fab dimerization. Fluorescence decays of CP are measured at different concentrations of Ab and different pH values. The following deconvolution procedure based on the non-linear least squares method reveals a two- exponential character of the fluorescence decay. Data obtained by …

Probing dynamics of dense suspensions: three-dimensional cross-correlation technique

1997

We describe the realization of a novel three-dimensional (3D) cross-correlation scheme, which provides the possibility to measure dynamic structure factors of highly concentrated colloidal samples without contributions of multiply scattered light. The apparatus is easier to align and more compact than the two-colour cross-correlation apparatus, which is commercially available. This should make the 3D cross-correlation set-up more convenient for routine applications, for example in industrial laboratories. We describe the set-up and discuss some special features of the optical components.

Approaching the limits of multiple scattering decorrelation: 3D light-scattering apparatus utilising semiconductor lasers

2007

Light scattering as a function of scattering angle can be regarded as a standard method to investigate the dynamics of dilute colloidal suspensions. Concentrated suspensions, which are of interest if interactions between the particles are to be investigated, usually show strong multiple scattering. Decorrelation of multiple scattered light, which isolates single scattering events at the expense of a reduced signal-to-noise ratio, has been proven to work using the two-colour crosscorrelation scheme.

Application of alternating projection method to ensure feasibility of shadowing cross-correlation models

2007

A novel procedure based on the alternating projection method to adjust experimental shadowing cross-correlation (SCC) matrices is proposed. Given an SCC matrix derived from any experimental model, this procedure finds the nearest diagonalisable correlation matrix. This adjustment allows a proper simulation of shadowing samples, since it produces correlation matrices for which Cholesky factorisation is feasible. Simulation results using this procedure for three different SCC models are compared and discussed.

Euclid preparation XV. Forecasting cosmological constraints for the Euclid and CMB joint analysis

2022

The combination and cross-correlation of the upcoming $Euclid$ data with cosmic microwave background (CMB) measurements is a source of great expectation since it will provide the largest lever arm of epochs, ranging from recombination to structure formation across the entire past light cone. In this work, we present forecasts for the joint analysis of $Euclid$ and CMB data on the cosmological parameters of the standard cosmological model and some of its extensions. This work expands and complements the recently published forecasts based on $Euclid$-specific probes, namely galaxy clustering, weak lensing, and their cross-correlation. With some assumptions on the specifications of current and…

Euclid preparation XIX. Impact of magnification on photometric galaxy clustering

2022

Aims. We investigate the importance of lensing magnification for estimates of galaxy clustering and its cross-correlation with shear for the photometric sample of Euclid. Using updated specifications, we study the impact of lensing magnification on the constraints and the shift in the estimation of the best fitting cosmological parameters that we expect if this effect is neglected.

Dynamic light scattering by preserved skimmed cow milk: A comparison of two-colour and three-dimensional cross-correlation experiments

2008

We investigate the dynamic light scattering of preserved skimmed cow milk and compare the performance of a standard two-colour (2C) cross-correlation setup with the recently developed three-dimensional (3D) cross-correlation setup. Undiluted milk could only be investigated using the 3D setup because of too low signal-to-noise ratio of the 2C setup. A tenfold diluted milk, however, could be investigated by both setups, and comparable results for the dynamics of the sample were obtained thus demonstrating the equivalence of the decorrelation schemes. On the other hand, we found that the dynamics of the milk is strongly altered upon dilution. This finding elucidates the benefits of the new 3D …
