Abstract Background Hepatic resection is well established as a potentially curative treatment for hepatic colorectal cancer metastases. However, only a small proportion of patients with liver metastases are suitable for resection because they either have extrahepatic disease, or the extent and/or the distribution of their hepatic disease would make excision impossible. We have previously described the use of cryotherapy for inadequate resection margins and lesions in the remaining lobe of the liver. Prognostic factors for cryotherapy of colorectal liver metastases.

Abstract Background . Cryotherapy is a local ablative treatment option for non-resectable liver tumours. We aimed to identify prognostic indicators, that may allow better selection or stratification for adjuvant therapies of patients. Methods . Cryotherapy for liver metastases

Cryotherapy is undergoing a renaissance in the treatment of nonresectable liver tumors. In a prospective case control study we assessed the morbidity, mortality, and efficacy of hepatic cryotherapy for liver metastases. Between January 1996 and September 1999 a total of 54 cryosurgical procedures were performed on 49 patients (median age 66 years, 21 women) with liver metastases. Patient, tumor, and operative details were recorded prospectively. A comparative evaluation: Oral leukoplakia surgical management using diode laser, CO2 laser, and cryosurgery

Cryoablation of Human Colorectal Cancerin Vivoin a Nude Mouse Xenograft Model

Abstract Objective: To establish the minimum required temperature in cryoablation of human colorectal cancer cell lines grown as subcutaneous tumors in mice. Methods: Male nu/nu nude mice were inoculated by a sc injection of 1 × 10 6 LoVo ( n = 30) or C170 ( n = 32) cells. After 2 weeks the tumors were frozen using a 3-mm cryotherapy probe (LCS 3000, Cryotech, UK) to temperatures ranging from −8 to −84°C. Cryoplasty versus angioplasty in the treatment of arterial restenosis in an experimental model of atherosclerosis in rabbits

The procedural end point of electrical isolation of the pulmonary veins (PVs) for the treatment of atrial fibrillation (AF) has been debated extensively. After identifying the PVs as the dominant arrhythmogenic site of paroxysmal AF, 2 fundamentally different approaches to the interventional treatment of AF were introduced. Cryotherapy for liver tumors: current status, perspectives, clinical results, and review of literature.

Cryotherapy has gained importance as a locally ablative treatment option for patients with non-resectable liver tumors, especially metastases from colorectal cancer. We have used this technique since 1996 for the treatment of 77 patients with malignant liver tumors. Patient data was prospectively recorded and follow-up was until September 2002 or death. Fifty-five patients had colorectal cancer liver metastases, 16 metastases from other primaries and 6 had hepatoma. Forty patients had cryotherapy only and 37 had an additional liver resection. Effect of different cryosurgical protocols using liquid nitrogen on bone tissue: a histomorphological analyze

The aim of the present experimental study was to evaluate the morphological effects of different liquid nitrogen cryosurgery protocols on bone tissue. The femoral diaphyses of 42 Wistar rats were exposed to three local and sequential applications of liquid nitrogen for 1 or 2 min, intercalated with periods of 5 min of passive thawing. The animals were sacrificed after 1, 2, 4 and 12 weeks and the specimens obtained were processed and analyzed histomorphologically.
