Influence of within-tree and environmental factors on fruit quality of cactus pear (Opuntia ficus-indica) in Italy

Introduction . Opuntia ficus-indica fruit quality was studied, in the main sites for cactus pear cultivation in Italy, with the ultimate goal of understanding the main sources of variability and increasing crop value. Materials and methods. A first study was carried out in 2006 on mature Opuntia ficus-indica trees, cvs. Gialla and Rossa, grown in ten commercial orchards located in the main sites for their cultivation in Italy. Trees were managed to produce an out-of-season crop in October, through the removal of the spring flush at bloom time, during the first week of June. Effect of water stress on dry matter accumulation and partitioning in pot-grown olive trees (cv Leccino and Racioppella)

Abstract Three different water regimes were applied on young pot-grown olive trees of the cultivars Leccino and Racioppella, amounting to 100% (treatment T100), 50% (treatment T50) and 25% (treatment T25) of water transpiration as determined by pot weight. During the two-year trial the following parameters were measured: midday stem water potential, shoots growth, total leaf area per tree, dry matter accumulation and partitioning in different parts of the plant (root, wood, leaves and fruits). Productive and vegetative behaviour of olive cultivars in super high-density olive grove

In recent years, there has been an increase in interest in super high-density (SHD) olive (Olea europaea L.) groves because they offer early entry into production, increased productivity and the possibility of using modified mechanical vine harvesters. Effect of summer pruning on some fruit quality traits in Hayward kiwifruit

Introduction . The aim of our study was to analyze the effect of various levels of light availability in the fruit microenvironment (induced by summer pruning) on some fruit quality traits. Materials and methods . Two levels of summer pruning were set: removal of either 30% or 60% of the canopy leaf area. These treatments were compared with the control (unpruned vines). Faire une thèse pour devenir chercheur ou enseignant-chercheur est souvent considéré comme un parcours difficile dont le résultat est incertain. Plus que dans d’autres pays, les diplômés de doctorat en France connaissent de fortes difficultés de stabilisation sur le marché du travail. Notre recherche s’interroge sur les raisons qui conduisent les jeunes à obtenir un doctorat puis à choisir une carrière de chercheur ou d’enseignant-chercheur et enfin, à s’y stabiliser. Carbon autonomy of peach shoots determined by 13C-photoassimilate transport

We used (13)CO(2) tracing and source-sink manipulation to determine if fruiting shoots of peach (Prunus persica (L.) Batsch) trees are autonomous or if they import carbon from neighboring shoots, and if the degree of shoot autonomy is influenced by the source-sink relationship of the shoot. Replication of subgenomic hepatitis C virus RNAs in a hepatoma cell line.

An estimated 170 million persons worldwide are infected with hepatitis C virus (HCV), a major cause of chronic liver disease. Despite increasing knowledge of genome structure and individual viral proteins, studies on virus replication and pathogenesis have been hampered by the lack of reliable and efficient cell culture systems. A full-length consensus genome was cloned from viral RNA isolated from an infected human liver and used to construct subgenomic selectable replicons.
