This text is part of the author’s research on the literary culture of the nineteenth-century Upper Silesia. The author shows that at the forefront of modern Europe (at the beginning of industrialization and urbanization of the continent) the autochthon writers of Upper Silesia undertook actions aimed at fostering cultural awareness amongst their compatriots, who were considered to belong to a national minority, in order to instil patriotic feelings in them. In the current post-colonial discourse their struggles are recognized as the “voice of the periphery”. La tesi ricostruisce la visione estetica dei padri del Trascendentalismo americano, Ralph Waldo Emerson ed Henry David Thoreau. L'analisi è incentrata sull'esperienza estetica della natura, intesa come via privilegiata di cui l'uomo dispone per la conoscenza di se stesso, attraverso "lo splendido labirinto delle percezioni" e delle forme naturali. La ricerca analizza i tre saggi principali sulla natura di Emerson, redatti in un periodo che va dal 1836 al 1844, e il capolavoro di Thoreau, Walden del 1854, che declina la ricerca del maestro Emerson in modo originale, concentrandosi sulla nozione di selvaggio.

This paper reflects on the gender inequalities and their influence in the access to labor market and, on the other one, to reproductive process. Maternity and work often arise as choices excluding one another due for the inadequacy of care services. The essay reviews some laws of the last years for encourage the work-life balance and analyzes the presence of the services for children in Palermo. Il contributo esamina le sculture lignee custodite nelle chiese di Caltabellotta, piccolo centro siciliano della provincia di Agrigento. Si tratta di opere, perlopiù in discreto stato di conservazione, realizzate dalla metà del Cinquecento agli inizi dell’Ottocento. I simulacri, tangibili manifestazioni della devozione locale, sono stati eseguiti talora da scultori perlopiù attivi nell’hinterland, come i Lo Cascio, talaltra da altri documentati nelle diverse province dell’Isola, come Antonino Ferraro, Gaspare De Miceli, Antonino Barcellona, Filippo Quattrocchi, fra’ Benedetto Valenza e Girolamo Bagnasco.
