Imidotungsten(VI) complexes with chelating amino and imino phenolates

2011

The reaction of WOCl(4) with 2,4-di-tert-butyl-6-((isopropylamino)methyl)phenol followed by the reaction with phenyl isocyanate leads to the formation of imidotungsten(VI) complex [W(NPh)Cl(3)(OC(6)H(3)(CH(2)NH-i-Pr)-2-t-Bu(2)-4,6)] 4 with a chelating aminophenolate ligand. When the same procedure was applied using aminophenols with bulkier substituents in the amino group, the final product was an unexpected Schiff-base complex [W(NPh)Cl(3)(OC(6)H(3)(CH=NPh)-2-t-Bu(2)-4,6)] 5, where the ligand is derived from 2,4-di-tert-butyl-6-((phenylimino)methyl)phenol. Complex 5 is also formed in the thermal degradation of 4. On the whole, 5 appears to be formed by a disproportionation of intermediate …

Cladribine exerts an immunomodulatory effect on human and murine dendritic cells

2014

Cladribine is a purine nucleoside analog developed to treat lymphoid malignancies. Reported therapeutic benefits for the autoimmune disease multiple sclerosis indicate additional immunomodulatory effects beyond the well-characterized cytotoxic activity causing lymphopenia. Here, we demonstrate that cladribine reduces the secretion of inflammatory cytokines and chemokines by murine and human dendritic cells, the most potent antigen-presenting cells. This compound also modulates the expression of the activation markers CD86 and MHC II. Furthermore, cladribine affects the T cell priming capacity of dendritic cells, resulting in reduced induction of interferon-γ- and tumor necrosis factor-α-pro…

Dynamic covalent urea bonds and their potential for development of self-healing polymer materials

2019

Self-healing polymer materials have drawn rapidly increasing interest over the last decade, and have been studied and used in an ever-increasing range of applications. Herein, we successfully make the covalent urea bond – a pinnacle of stability due to strong resonance effects – dynamic in nature through mediation of zinc salts. The dynamic covalent character of urea in the presence of zinc ions is confirmed through dissociation reaction experiments and quantum chemical calculations of small-molecule model urea compounds. In line with our experiments, the modelling results suggest that the presence of zinc ions speeds up the reaction of urea dissociation by two orders of magnitude via the f…

A Versatile Synthesis of Fluorinated Uracils in Solution and on Solid-Phase.

2004

[reaction: see text] An efficient and convenient two-step synthesis of new fluorinated uracils is described. The first step involves the condensation of an ester enolate with a fluorinated nitrile to furnish fluorinated beta-enamino esters. In turn, these compounds react with organic isocyanates or isothiocyanates to give C-6 fluorinated uracils or thiouracils, respectively, in excellent yields. This synthesis has been successfully adapted to solid-phase conditions with high diversity, thereby facilitating the creation of small (thio)uracil libraries.

Isocratic high-performance liquid chromatographic determination of tryptophan in infant formulas.

1996

The application to infant formulas of a method for tryptophan determination by isocratic HPLC with UV detection at 254 nm, after derivatization with phenyl isothiocyanate, was studied. Protein was hydrolysed by barium hydroxide at 120 degrees C for 8 h, followed by derivatization with phenyl isothiocyanate, HPLC and UV detection at 254 nm. The optimum chromatographic conditions (pH, ionic strength of elution solvent and eluent ratio) were established. The analytical parameters (linearity, precision, accuracy of derivatization and limits of detection and quantification) were determined. The values obtained demonstrated that the method is useful for determining the tryptophan content of infan…

ChemInform Abstract: Glycoside Synthesis via Electrophile-Induced Activation of N-Allyl Carbamates.

2010

Abstract O-Benzyl-, O-acyl-, N-acyl- and isopropylidene-protected glycosyl N-allylcarbamates, obtained from anomerically unprotected monosaccharides and allyl isocyanate, are activated by an electrophile-induced cyclisation and react with hydroxyl compounds to form the corresponding glycosides.

Unique copper ion catalyzed hydrolytic cleavage of C–N(2) bond of thiosemicarbazide

2006

Abstract For the first time, stable but coordinatively unsaturated Cu(II) complexes [Cu(2,2′-bpy)X2] · xH2O (X = ClO4, NO3, CH3COO and 2,2′-bpy = 2,2′-bipyridyl) have been found to promote the hydrolysis of C–N(2) bond of thiosemicarbazide (tsc) at 25 °C and at neutral pH yielding monomeric [Cu(2,2′-bpy)(NCS)2]. Direct reaction between [Cu(2,2′-bpy)2]Cl2 · 6H2O, KSCN and CuCl2 results in polymeric [Cu(2,2′-bpy)(NCS)2]n [1] [Inorg. Chim. Acta. 286 (1999) 108]. Similarly tsc is cleaved by Cu(I) complex [Cu(ϕ3P)2(CH3CN)2]ClO4 [ϕ3P = triphenylphosphine] which itself is converted into dimeric [Cu(ϕ3P)2(NCS)]2.

Selective Cobalt over Nickel separation using neat and confined ionic liquids

2020

International audience; Task Specific Ionic Liquids (TSILs) generated by association between tetraalkylammonium cations and coordinating anions such as dicyanamide (Dca-) and thiocyanate (SCN-) were used for the selective separation of Ni(II) over Co(II). SCN-based TSIL presents higher extraction efficiency than the Dca-based one towards Co(II) (E = 85.4 % vs 54.6 %) and Ni (II) (E = 22 % vs 0.5%) but lower separation factors (βCo/Ni = 21 vs 239). Interestingly, extraction of Co(II) and Ni(II) in Dca-based TSIL can be enhanced using salts with chaotropic anions such as NaNO3 (E > 90 % for Co(II) and E = 85% for Ni(II)). The use of NaCl allows, moreover, the efficient separation of both ions…

Transparent thermoplastic polyurethanes based on aliphatic diisocyanates and polycarbonate diol

2016

Segmented thermoplastic polyurethanes (PUs) were synthetized using polycarbonate diol as soft segment with a molar mass of 500 and as a hard segment 1,5-pentanediol with a combination of isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI) and hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI). Differential scanning calorimetry, differential mechanical analysis, Fourier transform infrared-attenuated total reflection spectroscopy, haze, transmittance, hardness, tensile properties and retention of tensile properties tests were employed to characterize the different PUs. The results of this study show that IPDI/HDI relation has a significant impact on the phase mixing, crystallinity and therefore on the PU’s properties. The variati…

Assessment of Escherichia coli B with enhanced permeability to fluorochromes for flow cytometric assays of bacterial cell function.

2002

Background Flow cytometry has become a choice methodology for microbiological research. However, functional cytometric assays in live bacteria are still limited. This is due, in part, to the cell wall impairing penetration of vital dyes in bacteria, thus imposing permeabilization procedures. These manipulations may affect cell physiology, provoke cell aggregation or lysis, and they are time-consuming. Escherichia coli B strains have been used for mutagenic assays because of an altered lipopolysaccharide that provokes increased membrane permeability. We assessed the use of these strains as possible alternatives for flow cytometric assays to avoid the permeabilization steps. Methods Suspensio…
