Synthesis and Characterization of Nanostructured Cobalt Hexacyanoferrate
2010
Cobalt hexacyanoferrate (CoHCF) nanoparticles have been synthesized by mixing aqueous solutions of K3Fe(CN)6 and CoCl2 under vigorous stirring at different temperatures and following two different procedures, drop-by-drop or immediate mixing. The resulting CoHCF nanoparticles, with dimensions of several tens of nanometers, were characterized using TEM, SEM-EDX, IR, and XRD. Their electrochemical behavior was investigated in comparison with the CoHCF powder bulk compound. The CoHCF nanoparticles exhibit an electrochemically driven conversion to the bulk one that has been investigated by a chemometric approach in order to establish the best synthetic parameters. The rate and the degree of con…
Preparation, characterization and in vitro antimicrobial activity of ampicillin-loaded polyethylcyanoacrylate nanoparticles.
1998
In this paper, the experimental conditions for preparing ampicillin-loaded polyethylcyanoacrylate (PECA) nanoparticles are described. The effects of drug concentration and surfactant type in the polymerization medium on the particle size distribution and loading capacity were studied. The results of these studies show that only the type of surfactant has an impact on the nanoparticle dimensions. The release rate of ampicillin from PECA nanoparticles at pH 7.4 (extracellular value pH) performed either with and without esterases, show that the drug release is considerably increased in the presence of these exzymes. The results of drug release study at pH 1.1 (simulated gastric juice) are very…
Crystal growth of new charge-transfer salts based on π-conjugated donor molecules
2016
Abstract New charge transfer crystals of π-conjugated, aromatic molecules (phenanthrene and picene) as donors were obtained by physical vapor transport. The melting behavior, optimization of crystal growth and the crystal structure are reported for charge transfer salts with (fluorinated) tetracyanoquinodimethane (TCNQ-Fx, x=0, 2, 4), which was used as acceptor material. The crystal structures were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Growth conditions for different vapor pressures in closed ampules were applied and the effect of these starting conditions for crystal size and quality is reported. The process of charge transfer was investigated by geometrical analysis of the cryst…

Formation of an intermolecular charge-transfer compound in UHV codeposited tetramethoxypyrene and tetracyanoquinodimethane
2010
Ultrahigh vacuum (UHV)-deposited films of the mixed phase of tetramethoxypyrene and tetracyanoquinodimethane $({\text{TMP}}_{1}{\text{-TCNQ}}_{1})$ on gold have been studied using ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS), x-ray diffraction (XRD), infrared (IR) spectroscopy, and scanning tunneling spectroscopy (STS). The formation of an intermolecular charge-transfer (CT) compound is evident from the appearance of new reflexes in XRD (${d}_{1}=0.894\text{ }\text{nm}$ and ${d}_{2}=0.677\text{ }\text{nm}$). A softening of the CN stretching vibration (redshift by $7\text{ }{\text{cm}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$) of TCNQ is visible in the IR spectra, being indicative of a CT on the order of $0.3e$ f…
Amoxicillin-loaded polyethylcyanoacrylate nanoparticles: influence of PEG coating on the particle size, drug release rate and phagocytic uptake.
2001
Polyethyleneglycol (PEG)-coated polyethylcyanoacrylate (PECA) nanoparticles loaded with amoxicillin were prepared and the influence of the PEG coating on the particle size, zeta potential, drug release rate and phagocytic uptake by murine macrophages was studied. Experimental results show that this colloidal drug delivery system could be useful for intravenous or oral administration. The profile of amoxicillin release from PECA nanoparticles system was studied under various conditions similar to those of some corporeal fluids. In all these experiments, amoxicillin release in the free form was studied by HPLC analysis. Experimental results showed that at pH 7.4 drug release rises when molecu…
Evaluation of polyalkylcyanoacrylate nanoparticles as a potential drug carrier: preparation, morphological characterization and loading capacity.
1993
Some physicochemical behaviours were investigated of polyethyl- (PECA) and polyisobutylcyanoacrylate (PICA), which, in recent years, have been proposed as nanoparticle colloidal systems for drug carrying. We observed the influence of preparation conditions, such as pH value and surfactant concentration, on parameters such as particle size and polymer molecular weight. Lower operating pH values (0-2) resulted in smaller nanoparticles than those prepared at pH 5.5. The polymer molecular weight was also a function of pH: low molecular weight at low pH and vice-versa. The surfactant concentration positively influenced main particle size and polymer molecular weight. These trends were independen…
[Cu(tn)]3[Cr(CN)6]2·3H2O: A unique two-dimensional Cu-Cr cyano-bridged ferromagnet (tn = 1,3-diaminopropane)
2002
Reaction of the two-coordinate ‘assembling complex-ligand’ [Cu(tn)]2+ with the building block [Cr(CN)6]32 leads to a unique two-dimensional Cu–Cr cyano-bridged ferromagnet with unusual m3- and m4-bridging [Cu(tn)]2+ units. Gomez Garcia, Carlos Jose, Carlos.Gomez@uv.es
Cobalt hexacyanoferrate–poly(methyl methacrylate) composite: Synthesis and characterization
2010
Abstract The preparation of cobalt hexacyanoferrate nanoparticles–poly(methyl methacrylate) (CoHCF–PMMA) composites are described together with their characterization and thermochromic properties. CoHCF nanoparticles – investigated by dynamic light scattering – were prepared by optimizing solvent composition and temperature to obtain nanoparticles with a reduced degree of aggregation. The nanoparticles were embedded in a PMMA matrix to obtain a transparent coloured composite which was studied by transmission electron microscopy. The nanoparticle chromic features, enhanced by their reduced sizes, were investigated by UV–vis and FT-IR spectroscopy.
Microbial and meiofaunal response to intensive mussel-farm biodeposition in coastal sediments of the Western Mediterranean
2000
We studied the impact of organic loads due to the biodeposition of a mussel farm in a coastal area of the Tyrrhenian Sea (Western Mediterranean). Sediment chemistry, microbial and meiofaunal assemblages were investigated from March 1997 to February 1998 on monthly basis at two stations: the first was located under the mussel farm, while the second was at about 1-km distance and served as control. Benthic response to changes in the biodepositional regime was investigated in terms of biochemical composition of the sedimentary organic matter, phytopigment content, bacterial abundance and composition and meiofaunal community structure. A large accumulation of chloroplastic pigments, proteins an…
