Acetylcysteine therapy for chronic hepatitis C: are its effects synergistic with interferon alpha? A pilot study.

2008

This trial reports the 6-month results of a pilot study using lymphoblastoid interferon alpha (IFNalpha) and acetylcysteine (N-acetylcysteine) separately and in combination in patients with chronic hepatitis C, genotype 1b, who were nonresponders to previous treatment with recombinant IFNalpha alone.21 patients were randomly divided into three groups of seven each. Group A was treated with lymphoblastoid IFNalpha 6MU three times a week for 6 months; group B received the same schedule of lymphoblastoid IFNalpha as group A plus acetylcysteine 1200 mg/day per os in two administrations, and group C received only acetylcysteine 1200 mg/day per os in two administrations.Mean serum alanine aminotr…

Benigne Form der Osteopetrose

2001

Transmigrated canines: review and update

2011

Transmigrated canines are impacted canines that have crossed the midline. Our objective was to evaluate the epidemiological and clinical aspects that have to do with transmigrated canines. We did a bibliographic review of 209 transmigrated canines obtained from a review of articles from 1971 to the present. The results of the study were that transmigrated canines are most frequent among females and are usually diagnosed within the first two decades of life. They are usually located in the mandible, with transmigration being most frequent in the left mandibular canine. In a large number of cases, the deciduous canine remains in the arcade. Transmigrated canines are most often found impacted,…

Integrated stratigraphy of the Oxfordian global stratotype section and point (GSSP) candidate in the Subalpine Basin (SE France).

2014

44 pages; International audience; An integrated biostratigraphic approach, based on ammonites, calcareous nannofossils, dinoflagellates, combined with sedimentology, carbon-isotope and physical stratigraphy, is proposed for the Subalpine Basin (Thuoux and Saint-Pierre d'Argençon sections). Within the expanded marl deposits of the Terres Noires Fm., the Callovian-Oxfordian boundary is particularly well defined by ammonite taxa from different families (i.e. Cardioceratidae, Oppeliidae, Aspidoceratidae and Perisphinctidae), calcareous nannoplankton (first occurrence of large-sized Stephanolithion bigotii) and dinoflagellate cysts (first occurrence of Wanaea fimbriata). This precise biostratigr…

Association between homocysteinemia and metabolic syndrome in patients with cardiovascular disease

2007

Abstract BACKGROUND: This is an observational study undertaken in aim to evaluate the association between metabolic syndrome (MS) and high homocysteinemia (HHcy) in relation with cardiovascular disease (CVD). METHODS: The study involved 126 subjects with angiographically documented CVD and 65 healthy subjects. MS has been diagnosed according to the ATP III criteria and plasma homocysteine concentration has been evaluated. RESULTS: In patients with CVD the prevalence of MS and HHcy is 17.4% and 25.4% respectively; MS coexists with HHcy in 67.2% of patients; analogous results can be observed among men and women. HHcy and MS are associated with CVD (OR 2.53, 95% CI 1.95-12.43 and OR 5.74, 95% …

Prognostic Impact of let-7e MicroRNA and Its Target Genes in Localized High-Risk Intestinal GIST: A Spanish Group for Research on Sarcoma (GEIS) Study

2020

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding RNAs that negatively regulate gene expression at the post-transcriptional level, and they have been described as being associated with tumor prognosis. Here, miRNA profiling was planned to explore new molecular prognostic biomarkers in localized intestinal high-risk GIST. Paraffin tumor blocks of 14 and 86 patients were used in the discovery and expansion sets, respectively. GeneChip miRNA v3.0 was employed to identify the miRNAs differentially expressed between relapsed and non-relapsed patient samples, which were validated in the expansion set, by qRT-PCR. RT2 Profiler PCR Array was used for the screening of let-7e targets. Expression levels were co…

Micellar liquid chromatographic separation of amino acids using pre- and post-column o -phthalaldehyde/ N -acetylcysteine derivatization

2000

Abstract The isocratic analysis of primary proteic amino acids using a C18 column, micellar mobile phases of sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) and 1-propanol at varying pH, and pre- and post-column formation of the o-phthalaldehyde (OPA)/N-acetyl- l -cysteine (NAC) isoindoles, is examined. An interpretive optimization strategy was applied to find the best separation conditions. For this purpose, empirical polynomial models were used to describe the elution behavior of the isoindoles and free amino acids, using as separation factors the concentrations of surfactant and modifier (two-factor problem), or these two factors and the pH of the mobile phase (three-factor problem). The separation of the…

Amino acid contents of infant foods.

2006

The protein quality of three milk-cereal-based infant foods (paps) was evaluated by determining their amino acid contents and calculating the amino acid score. Proteins were subjected to acid hydrolysis, prior to which cysteine and methionine were oxidized with performic acid. Amino acids were determined by reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography with fluorescence detection with a prior derivatization with 6-aminoquinolyl-N-hydroxysuccinimidyl carbamate. Tryptophan was determined by reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography with ultraviolet detection after basic hydrolysis. Glutamic acid, proline and leucine were the most abundant amino acids, whereas tryptophan and …
