[EN] The induction of mutagenic and cytotoxic effects by simple phenolics, including catechol (CAT), 3,4dihydroxyphenylacetic acid (DOPAC), hydroquinone (HQ), and 2,5-dihydroxyphenylacetic (homogentisic) acid (HGA), appears to occur through an oxidative mechanism based on the ability of these compounds to undergo autoxidation, leading to quinone formation with the production of reactive oxygen species. To investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying altered T cell response in renal cell carcinoma (RCC) patients, we compared autologous and allogeneic CD8(+) T cell responses against RCC line from RCC patients and their HLA-matched donors, using mixed lymphocyte/tumor cell cultures (MLTCs). In addition, we analyzed the expression of molecules associated with cell cycle regulation. Synthesis of new, UV-photoactive dansyl derivatives for flow cytometric studies on bile acid uptake.

Four new fluorescent derivatives of cholic acid have been synthesized; they incorporate a dansyl moiety at 3 alpha-, 3 beta-, 7 alpha- or 7 beta- positions. These cholic acid analogs are UV photoactive and also exhibit green fluorescence. In addition, they have been demonstrated to be suitable for studying the kinetics of bile acid transport by flow cytometry.
