Systems Biology and immune aging

2014

Many alterations of innate and adaptive immunity are common in the aging population, which reflect a deterioration of the immune system, and have lead to the terms "immune aging" or "immunosenescence". Systems Biology aims to the comprehensive knowledge of the structure, dynamics, control and design that define a given biological system. Systems Biology benefits from the continuous advances in the omics sciences, based on high-throughput and high-content technologies, as well as on bioinformatic tools for data mining and integration. The Systems Biology approach is becoming gradually used to propose and to test comprehensive models of aging, both at the level of the immune system and the wh…

Cytomics of Oxidative Stress: Probes and Problems

2017

Oxidative stress has been implicated in cellular senescence and aging, as well as in the onset and progression of many diverse genetic and acquired diseases and conditions. However, reactive oxygen (ROS) and nitrogen (RNS) species initiating oxidative stress also serve important regulatory roles, mediated by intercellular and intracellular signaling, adaptation to endogenous and exogenous stress, and destruction of invading pathogens. Fluorescence-based analysis of oxidative stress and related processes is an important cytomic application; almost 4000 papers were published between 1989 and 2016. To ascertain the specific role of ROS and RNS in oxidative stress studies by cytomic methodologi…

Evaluation of the toxicity of mussels from 2 sites of the Moroccan Atlantic Coast (Jorf Lasfar and Oualidia) used as bioindicators of contamination :…

2012

Toxic substances generated by various human activities are spilled on different area of the Moroccan coast. Shellfishes can concentrate pollutants and have some adverse effects on human health through the food chain. Despite the strengthening of food safety rules, the involvement of chemical pollution of food on metabolic disorders is not known. To predict the impact of pollutants on the aquatic ecosystem and human health, the development of appropriate biomonitoring tools is required. We quantified heavy metals (Cd, Cr and Pb) in mussels (Mytilus galloprovincialis) from two sites of Moroccan Atlantic coast (industrial site Jorf Lasfar (JL) and touristic site Oualidia (OL)) due to the proxim…

Advanced clinical diagnostic techniques: omics and their application to the molecular study of diseases

2023

El document forma part dels materials docents programats mitjançant l'ajut del Servei de Política Lingüística de la Universitat de València Omics development is allowing to improve clinical diagnostic techniques in clinical biochemistry. Omics investigate organisms as a whole and allow to study several parameters from a holistic perspective. Through the groundbreakingly development of cytomics, metabolomics and genomics and transcriptomics we can study cells, metabolites and genes as biomarkers for the diagnostic of several pathologies through the application of biochemical and molecular biology techniques. In this seminar, a state-of-the-art review is performed, in order to evaluate the in…
