2022

New records of flies from the family Ephydridae are presented. Seventeen species are recorded from the Czech Republic for the first time: Athyroglossa flaviventris (Meigen, 1830), Ditrichophora olivacea (Becker, 1896), Gymnoclasiopa aulisioi (Canzoneri, 1976), Hyadina scutellata (Haliday, 1839), Hydrellia frontosa Becker, 1926, H. geniculata (Stenhammar, 1844), H. meigeni Zatwarnicki, 1988, H. porphyrops Haliday, 1839, H. stratiotae Hering, 1925, H. subalbiceps Collin, 1966, Notiphila (Notiphila) brunipes (Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830), N. (N.) subnigra Krivosheina, 1998, Parydra (Chaetoapnaea) obliterata Duda, 1942, Parydra (Parydra) undulata Becker, 1896, Philygria stenoptera Hollmann-Schirrma…

The Role of Physicians' Digital Tools in Pharmacological Management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

2022

Background and Objectives: The constantly increasing prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and the advent of new treatment options have made management of T2DM patients more demanding. We aimed to (a) estimate the familiarity of general practitioners with novel T2DM treatment options, (b) determine whether a digital tool can aid in their treatment decisions and (c) demonstrate that an evidence-based digital clinical support tool can be made using an existing digital platform. Materials and methods: This proof-of-concept study consisted of two parts: We first conducted a simple online survey among general practitioners of three European countries to estimate their familiarity with no…

Synthesis and Antileukemic Activity of New 3-(5-Methylisoxazol-3-yl) and 3-(Pyrimidin-2-yl)-2-styrylquinazolin-4(3H)-ones.

2003

3-(3-Methylisoxazol-5-yl) and 3-(pyrimidin-2-yl)-2-styrylquinazolin-4(3H)-ones 8a–l and 9a,c–e,h–l were synthesized by refluxing in acetic acid the corresponding 2-methylquinazolinones 6 and 8 with the opportune benzoic aldehyde for 12 h. The synthesized styrylquinazolinones 8a–l and 9a,c–e,h–l were tested in vitro for their antileukemic activity against L-1210 (murine leukemia), K-562 (human chronic myelogenous leukemia) and HL-60 (human leukemia) cell lines showing in some cases good activity.

Identifying reasons for ERP system customization in SMEs: a multiple case study

2012

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to investigate possible reasons for enterprise resource planning (ERP) system customization in small and medium‐sized enterprises (SMEs), with a particular focus on distinguishing influential factors of the SME context.Design/methodology/approachAn exploratory qualitative research approach was employed, to identify new insights within the SME context. A multiple case study of four SMEs was conducted. Data were collected through 34 qualitative interviews with multiple informants across the four cases.FindingsThe paper reports findings from four SMEs where ERP customization has been applied to match organizational needs. First, the level and type of ERP sys…

Mercury concentration in lichen, moss and soil samples collected from the forest areas of Praded and Glacensis Euroregions (Poland and Czech Republic)

2011

The concentration of mercury was determined in samples of the lichen Hypogymnia physodes, the moss Pleurozium schreberi, and the soil humus collected in Polish and Czech Euroregions Praded and Glacensis. The sampling sites were located in Bory Stobrawskie, Bory Niemodlińskie and Kotlina Kłodzka in Poland, and in Jeseniki and Gory Orlickie in the Czech Republic. The mean concentrations of mercury accumulated in the lichen (0.129 mg g(-1)), in the moss (0.094 mg g(-1)) and in soil (0.286 mg g(-1)) were fairly close to the corresponding concentrations in other low-industrialized regions. The highest concentrations of mercury were observed in the lichen and the moss samples from Kotlina Kłodzka…

Predicting the bioaccumulation of polyaromatic hydrocarbons and polychlorinated biphenyls in benthic animals in sediments

2016

There were two main objectives in this study. The first was to compare the accuracy of different prediction methods for the chemical concentrations of polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in the organism, based on the measured chemical concentrations existing in sediment dry matter or pore water. The predicted tissue concentrations were compared to the measured ones after 28-day laboratory test using oligochaeta worms (Lumbriculus variegatus). The second objective was to compare the bioaccumulation of PAHs and PCBs in the laboratory test with the in situ bioaccumulation of these compounds. Using the traditional organic carbon-water partitioning model, tissue…

Arachidonate 5-lipoxygenase (ALOX5) gene polymorphism is associated with Alzheimer's disease and body mass index

2016

IF 2.126; International audience; Dementias of old age, in particular Alzheimer's disease (AD), pose a growing threat to the longevity and quality of life of individuals as well as whole societies world-wide. The risk factors are both genetic and environmental (lifestyle) and there is an overlap with similar factors predisposing to cardiovascular diseases (CVD). Using a case control genetic approach, we have identified a SNP (rs10507391) in ALOX5 gene, previously associated with an increased risk of stroke, as a novel genetic risk factor for AD. ALOX5 gene encodes a 5'-lipoxygenase (5'-LO) activating protein (FLAP), a crucial component of the arachidonic acid/leukotriene inflammatory cascad…

Perceived effectiveness, restrictiveness and compliance with containment measures against the Covid-19 pandemic: an international comparative study i…

2021

National governments took action to delay the transmission of the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) by implementing different containment measures. We developed an online survey that included 44 different containment measures. We aimed to assess how effective citizens perceive these measures, which measures are perceived as violation of citizens’ personal freedoms, which opinions and demographic factors have an effect on compliance with the measures, and what governments can do to most effectively improve citizens’ compliance. The survey was disseminated in 11 countries: UK, Belgium, Netherlands, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Finland, India, Latvia, Poland, Romania, and Sweden. We acquired 9543 unique r…
