W poszukiwaniu austronostalgii w czeskiej pamięci subiektywnej

2020

2018

The paper deals with the phenomenon of dystopia in Czech literaturę before 1989. The main aim of the article is to present some similiar views on totalitarian power and its influence on the individual in Czech novels and short stories: Datum narozeni nula by Ludmiła Freiova, Poselstvi pro Agla Mathona by Ondrej Neff, Utopie, nejlepśi verze by lvan Kminek and Maso by Martin Harmcek. The purpose of the paper was also to show how in the authors’ visions of autocratic States, administration is taking control over ordinary people and what kind of tools it uses to manipulate them: terror, self-censorship or various addictions.

Predicting the bioaccumulation of polyaromatic hydrocarbons and polychlorinated biphenyls in benthic animals in sediments

2016

There were two main objectives in this study. The first was to compare the accuracy of different prediction methods for the chemical concentrations of polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in the organism, based on the measured chemical concentrations existing in sediment dry matter or pore water. The predicted tissue concentrations were compared to the measured ones after 28-day laboratory test using oligochaeta worms (Lumbriculus variegatus). The second objective was to compare the bioaccumulation of PAHs and PCBs in the laboratory test with the in situ bioaccumulation of these compounds. Using the traditional organic carbon-water partitioning model, tissue…

Arachidonate 5-lipoxygenase (ALOX5) gene polymorphism is associated with Alzheimer's disease and body mass index

2016

IF 2.126; International audience; Dementias of old age, in particular Alzheimer's disease (AD), pose a growing threat to the longevity and quality of life of individuals as well as whole societies world-wide. The risk factors are both genetic and environmental (lifestyle) and there is an overlap with similar factors predisposing to cardiovascular diseases (CVD). Using a case control genetic approach, we have identified a SNP (rs10507391) in ALOX5 gene, previously associated with an increased risk of stroke, as a novel genetic risk factor for AD. ALOX5 gene encodes a 5'-lipoxygenase (5'-LO) activating protein (FLAP), a crucial component of the arachidonic acid/leukotriene inflammatory cascad…

Perceived effectiveness, restrictiveness and compliance with containment measures against the Covid-19 pandemic: an international comparative study i…

2021

National governments took action to delay the transmission of the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) by implementing different containment measures. We developed an online survey that included 44 different containment measures. We aimed to assess how effective citizens perceive these measures, which measures are perceived as violation of citizens’ personal freedoms, which opinions and demographic factors have an effect on compliance with the measures, and what governments can do to most effectively improve citizens’ compliance. The survey was disseminated in 11 countries: UK, Belgium, Netherlands, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Finland, India, Latvia, Poland, Romania, and Sweden. We acquired 9543 unique r…

International Physical Activity and Built Environment Study of Adolescents : IPEN Adolescent design, protocol and measures

2021

IntroductionOnly international studies can provide the full variability of built environments and accurately estimate effect sizes of relations between contrasting environments and health-related outcomes. The aims of the International Physical Activity and Environment Study of Adolescents (IPEN Adolescent) are to estimate the strength, shape and generalisability of associations of the community environment (geographic information systems (GIS)-based and self-reported) with physical activity and sedentary behaviour (accelerometer-measured and self-reported) and weight status (normal/overweight/obese).Methods and analysisThe IPEN Adolescent observational, cross-sectional, multicountry study …

Oral Hygiene Habits of 11-year-old Schoolchildren in 22 European Countries and Canada in 1993/1994

1997

This study is part of the Cross-National Survey on Health Behaviour in School-aged Children-a WHO Collaborative Study, which started in 1982. The aim of the study was to describe the oral hygiene habits (toothbrushing and flossing) of 11-year-old schoolchildren in 22 European countries (Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greenland, Hungary, Israel, Latvia, Lithuania, Northern Ireland, Norway, Poland, Russia, Scotland, the Slovak Republic, Spain, Sweden, and Wales) and Canada. The data were collected from standardized anonymous questionnaires in school classrooms during the 1993-1994 school year. At least 1300 schoolchildren, representing the w…

Identification and study of research groups in Learning, Teaching and Education Leadership

2016

The bibliometrical indicators, based on the statistical analysis of quantitative data from scientific literature, are currently an essential tool to the study researchers’ activity. In these lasts years, the use of bibliometrical indicators as a complement to other scientific indicators to analyse the research situation of a country, its evolution in time and its position in the international context has been extended.  The objective of this study is to analyse the scientific productivity in Learning, Teaching and Education Leadership throughout the communications presented in all of the World Conference on Learning, Teaching and Education Leadership (WCLTA) included in the database Web …

Slippers, slip-on a sneakers aneb několik poznámek k jazykovým výpůjčkám ve světe módy

2017

Slippers, slip-on and sneakers - a few remarks on language borrowing in the world of fashion. Our paper addresses use of neological loanwords in the field of fashion. Regarding the fact that the main source of neological loanwords is in English, we will focus on Anglicisms used to describe different types of shoes. Specifically, we have chosen these tree words: slippers, sneakers, slip-on. The main purpose of our article is to describe the freąuency and use of these words in Czech and French.

Current-induced spin-orbit torques in ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic systems

2018

Spin-orbit coupling in inversion-asymmetric magnetic crystals and structures has emerged as a powerful tool to generate complex magnetic textures, interconvert charge and spin under applied current, and control magnetization dynamics. Current-induced spin-orbit torques mediate the transfer of angular momentum from the lattice to the spin system, leading to sustained magnetic oscillations or switching of ferromagnetic as well as antiferromagnetic structures. The manipulation of magnetic order, domain walls and skyrmions by spin-orbit torques provides evidence of the microscopic interactions between charge and spin in a variety of materials and opens novel strategies to design spintronic devi…
