ECOHYDROLOGICAL MODELLING IN MEDITERRANEAN AREAS AND WETLANDS

2010

In particolare, viene approfon…

Connected Lands : new perspectives on Ecological Networks Planning

2017

The construction of an ecological network is a fairly complex operation, given that the components to be considered are strictly linked to the age-old problem of the relationship between man and the land, until now perhaps seen too much as a limiting relationship and not, as the use of this tool suggests, as a relationship to be safeguarded. It may represent the ideal way to reconcile human needs and the conservation of biodiversity for the sustainable management of land. This study on the ecological network represents a tool capable to contain habitat fragmentation trough a new perspective that integrates theoretical approaches and methods with planning models and experiences of local appl…

Urban segregation and unemployment: A case study of the urban area of Marseille – Aix-en-Provence (France)

2018

International audience; In this paper, we study the effects of the spatial organization of the urban area of Marseille – Aix-en-Provence on unemployment there. More specifically, differences in the characteristics of the residential population induce urban stratification with the result that urban structure may affect the probability of employment. In order to evaluate the effects of spatial structure on unemployment, we implement a spatial probit model to reveal the employment probabilities of young adults still living with their parents. Our results support the hypothesis that living in or near a deprived neighborhood decreases the probability of employment.

‘Experimental Union’ and Baltic Sea cooperation: the case of the European Union’s Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region (EUSBSR)

2018

In the past, Baltic Sea cooperation has been characterized by a plethora of actors, embracing a wide range of policy objectives, such as the establishment of a good environmental status for the regional sea. In 2009, the European Council endorsed the European Union’s (EU) Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region (EUSBSR) as a new tool in the repertoire of Cohesion Policy and European Territorial Cooperation (ETC). The EUSBSR seeks to foster cross-sectoral coordination and functional cooperation in policy areas of ‘macro-region-level’ relevance, such as transport infrastructure, economic development and environmental protection – thus projecting a ‘soft space’ of transnational Baltic Sea cooperati…

Contribution of raindrop impact to the change of soil physical properties and water erosion under semi-arid rainfalls

2017

Soil erosion by water is a three-phase process that consists of detachment of soil particles from the soil mass, transportation of detached particles either by raindrop impact or surface water flow, and sedimentation. Detachment by raindrops is a key component of the soil erosion process. However, little information is available on the role of raindrop impact on soil losses in the semi-arid regions where vegetation cover is often poor and does not protect the soil from rainfall. The objective of this study is to determine the contribution of raindrop impact to changes in soil physical properties and soil losses in a semiarid weakly-aggregated agricultural soil. Soil losses were measured und…

Recommendations for a nomenclature system for reporting methylation aberrations in imprinted domains

2018

The analysis of DNA methylation has become routine in the pipeline for diagnosis of imprinting disorders, with many publications reporting aberrant methylation associated with imprinted differentially methylated regions (DMRs). However, comparisons between these studies are routinely hampered by the lack of consistency in reporting sites of methylation evaluated. To avoid confusion surrounding nomenclature, special care is needed to communicate results accurately, especially between scientists and other health care professionals. Within the European Network for Human Congenital Imprinting Disorders we have discussed these issues and designed a nomenclature for naming imprinted DMRs as well …
