MANAGEMENT CHALLENGES - A PREVIEW IN FUTURE OF CAPITALISM

2012

The economic crisis comes in the context the deepest political crisis faced by the EU today. Economic catastrophe led to the strongest economic crisis since the '30s. Downturns were commonly explained using technical arguments, economic or financial reasons. Because they were discussed by experts in language often inaccessible, so often we face today and dangerous misunderstanding of the population crisis. When talking about economic crises tend to forget that they come in a political context, social and cultural. At the same time, how society reacts to the crisis is decisively influenced by the values it embraces.

Capital humain et coûts de friction

2009

STRATEGIC ROLE OF ACTIVITY IN THE EFFECTIVE MANAGEMENT OF A COMPANY FROM THE SME SECTOR IN THE ERA OF GLOBAL CRISIS

2012

The year 2009 ended in Poland and other EU countries under the sign of the Great Depression, which began on the other side of the ocean but it covered almost the whole world. The most vulnerable to the crisis turned out to be companies from the SME sector which, in the European Union SMEs represent 99.8% companies operating within the Union, and their sales account for about 56.2% total revenues. EU small and medium-sized companies employ more than 66% workforce and they are the ones most heavily affected by the crisis. In Poland the company from the SME sector accounts for over 90% of all businesses operating in our country. And they were faced in front of the huge challenge which was how …

El sector no lucrativo desde el enfoque de la elección pública: Cuando la oferta no lucrativa de bienes públicos es el resultado de decisiones emanad…

2001

The voluntary supply of collective goods by nonprofit institutions has deserved little attention in the Public Choice literature, and the clasical nonprofits approach does not consider nonprofits supply as a collective decision, although individuals, either as consumers or as donors, are in the center of their theoretical constructs. In this paper we hypothesize that voluntary nonprofits' provision is a collective choice. We present a model in which the members of a community, both those who fund the nonprofits and those who do not (free riders) vote, so choosing between a political program of governmental supply and a political program of non governmental supply. Afterward, they must also …

Economía social y sector no lucrativo: Actualidad científica y perspectivas

2001

In this paper, we intend to analyze some scientific questions of current importance in the Social Economy field and Non-profit sector. In the first place, we show the growing economical importance of this field in Europe, based on the results obtained in the last transnational study. Secondly, we try to think about the concept of non-profit as well as about the position of co-operatives and associations within the Non-profit sector, introducing some criteria of analysis. Immediately after, we study this economical field under a “social” point of view. Finally, the paper analyses the place and content of Social Economy, both business and non-profit sectors, within the limits of European publ…

Towards a sustainable well-being

2013

Given the need of a new economic paradigm for the achievement of a world of sustainable wellbeing, this paper presents the main findings from the literature on sustainable well-being. We try to identify a few approaches of measurement, highlighting strengths and weaknesses. We analyzed Romania's position in the global context in terms of happiness index. Are sustainable well-being indicators a good guide for policy-making? Also, the paper discusses the role of education in ensuring the sustainable well-being.

Severe Tremor After Cotrimoxazole-Induced Elevation of Venlafaxine Serum Concentrations in a Patient With Major Depressive Disorder

2013

: We describe a female patient who was an extensive metabolizer of cytochrome P450 isoenzyme (CYP) 2D6 and an intermediate metabolizer of CYP2C19 (genotype: CYP2C19 *1/*2). She exhibited high serum concentrations of venlafaxine and O-desmethylvenlafaxine and developed severe tremor after comedication with cotrimoxazole (sulfamethazole/trimethoprim). Venlafaxine is mainly metabolized by O- and N-demethylation. O-demethylation is catalyzed by the highly polymorphic CYP2D6 and N-demethylation by several enzymes, CYP2C19, CYP2C9, and CYP3A4. The observed overall pharmacokinetic effect was most probably the result of decreased N-demethylation of venlafaxine by (1) reduced expression of CYP2C19 d…

FRI0613 H-ferritin and pro-inflammatory cytokines are increased in the bone marrow of adult patients affected by macrophage activation syndrome

2017

Background During macrophage activation syndrome (MAS), an inflammatory life-threatening syndrome, extremely high levels of serum ferritin may be observed [1]. Ferritin is an intracellular iron storage protein comprising 24 subunits that may be divided in heavy (H) subunits and light (L) subunits, based on their molecular weight [2]. The H-/L-subunits ratio may change, depending on the specific tissue and the physiologic status of the cell. In the normal condition, ferritin enriched in L subunits (L-ferritin) has been found in the liver and in the spleen, whereas the ferritin enriched in H subunits (H-ferritin), may be mainly observed in the heart and kidneys [2]. Objectives We investigated…

Regulation of cytochrome P450 IID by acute phase mediators in C3H/HeJ mice.

1992

Abstract Cytochrome P450 IID6 is a drug metabolizing enzyme and the major target antigen in LKM-1 antibody positive chronic active hepatitis. The histological hallmark of chronic active hepatitis is a lymphocytic infiltrate in the liver. It is unknown whether and how cytokines produced and secreted by these tissue infiltrating mononuclear cells regulate the cellular expression of cytochrome P450 IID6. To study the effect of interleukin 1, tumor necrosis factor and interleukin 6 on the hepatocellular RNA expression of cytochrome P450 IID, we injected each of the cytokines in C3H HeJ mice. We found a time-dependent suppression of the cytochrome in the liver. Six hours after the intraperitonea…
