Bermudagrass adaptation in the Mediterranean climate: phenotypic traits of 44 accessions

2014

The use of bermudagrass in the Mediterranean area is increasing for its outstanding tolerance to heat and drought, and its aggressive growth and high recuperative potential make it particularly suited to heavily worn areas and appreciated for sports turfs. However, the overall performance of a given genetic type can be affected by the adaptation to a specific environment. The objective of this research was to determine the variability of a number of phenotypic traits that can affect bermudagrass turf performance on a wide range of bermudagrass accessions grown in two locations in Italy. In May 2010, 44 accessions of bermudagrasses, grouped in “wild”, “improved” “hybrid” and “dwarf” types we…

Identification and quantification of phosphatidylcholines containing very long chain polyunsaturated fatty acid (VLC-PUFA) in bovine and human retina…

2010

The retina is one of the vertebrate tissues with the highest content in polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA). A large proportion of the retinal glycerophospholipids, especially those found in photoreceptor membranes, are dipolyunsaturated molecular species. Among them, dipolyunsaturated phosphatidylcholine molecular species are known to contain very long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (VLC-PUFA) from the n-3 and n-6 series and having 24 to 36 carbon atoms (C24 to C36) and four to six double bonds. Recent interest in the role of VLC-PUFA arose from the findings that a protein named ELOngation of Very Long chain fatty acids 4 (ELOVL4) is involved in their biosynthesis and that mutations in E…

Structural Manipulations of Marine Natural Products Inspire a New Library of 3-Amino-1,2,4-Triazine PDK Inhibitors Endowed with Antitumor Activity in…

2023

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is one of the main aggressive types of cancer, characterized by late prognosis and drug resistance. Among the main factors sustaining PDAC progression, the alteration of cell metabolism has emerged to have a key role in PDAC cell proliferation, invasion, and resistance to standard chemotherapeutic agents. Taking into account all these factors and the urgency in evaluating novel options to treat PDAC, in the present work we reported the synthesis of a new series of indolyl-7-azaindolyl triazine compounds inspired by marine bis-indolyl alkaloids. We first assessed the ability of the new triazine compounds to inhibit the enzymatic activity of pyruvate de…

Hvordan kan teknologi skape nye undervisnings- og læringsmåter i fremmedspråksundervisningen fram mot 2030?

2014

Published version of an article in the journal: Acta Didactica Norge.

Self-Directed Learning as a Practice of Workplace Learning: Interpretative Repertoires of Self-Directed Learning in ICT Work

2019

Changing technologies and competition in the field of information and communication technology (ICT) are challenging the learning of individual workers and teams alongside and through work. Organisations call for employees’ autonomy and self-directedness executed by agile operations and low hierarchies, where learning is also increasingly the responsibility of the individuals and teams themselves and occurs in practice without strong control of the organisation. Therefore, the multidimensional concept of self-directed learning becomes essential in the context of learning at work. In this study, we examine how employees in the ICT sector describe self-directed learning practices in the conte…

The analysis of teaching practices at school and at university.

2011

It is well-known that teachers are required to have an experimental mentality leading them to constantly verify the educational efficiency of their teaching actions and make new hypotheses to improve. Actually, what really happens at school is that intuition is predominant because of the lack of time, so these hypotheses are quite dim, working procedures are the fruit of almost indefinite improvisation, and assessment does not fit the need for observing the benefits and results of learning or it is not even carried out at all. Therefore, it is required for school teachers to have a strong methodological competence in the field of teaching research. The Research Group at the University of Pa…

I parchi preistorici: esperienze internazionali di “presentazione” del paesaggio come riscoperta delle valenze immateriali

2007

The meaning of “cultural patrimony” includes today both the objects and the popular traditions, that is including both the material and immaterial values. Territory, local architecture, daily life uses and customs have been placed side by side to “dignified” finds – in the role of testimony of the past – with equal dignity. Such testimony is firmly connected to the territory and its landscape. Actually, sites of archaeological interest are recognized not only for their intrinsic value, but also for the space that they represent. Today, a greater attention is paid to natural environment and there is a greater awareness that the “archaeological heritage” assumes a connotation more and more ti…

THE HDAC INHIBITOR ITF2357 (GIVINOSTAT) AS A KEY PLAYER IN EPIGENETIC TARGETING OF MELANOMA AND COLON CANCER CELLS

2023

Histone deacetylase inhibitors (HDACIs) are epigenetic compounds that have been recently considered for their promising anti-tumor activity. The aim of this PhD thesis was to elucidate and characterize the anti-tumor effect of the HDAC inhibitor ITF2357 (Givinostat) in melanoma and colon cancer cells that are characterized by oncogenic BRAF mutations. Interestingly, data reported in this thesis demonstrate that ITF2357 exerts a remarkable anti-tumor effect in melanoma cells by inducing a switch from a pro-survival autophagy to caspase-dependent apoptosis. The thesis provides the first evidences that ITF2357 is able to target oncogenic BRAF and oncogenic p53. The ITF2357 decreasing effect on…

Oncogenic BRAF and p53 Interplay in Melanoma Cells and the Effects of the HDAC Inhibitor ITF2357 (Givinostat)

2023

Oncogenic BRAF mutations have been widely described in melanomas and promote tumour progression and chemoresistance. We previously provided evidence that the HDAC inhibitor ITF2357 (Givinostat) targets oncogenic BRAF in SK-MEL-28 and A375 melanoma cells. Here, we show that oncogenic BRAF localises to the nucleus of these cells, and the compound decreases BRAF levels in both the nuclear and cytosolic compartments. Although mutations in the tumour suppressor p53 gene are not equally frequent in melanomas compared to BRAF, the functional impairment of the p53 pathway may also contribute to melanoma development and aggressiveness. To understand whether oncogenic BRAF and p53 may cooperate, a po…
