A 9-Year Retained T-Tube Fragment Encased within a Stone as a Rare Cause of Jaundice

Biliary diseases such as cholangitis may cause jaundice and liver damage. Here, we report on an unusual cause of jaundice in an 84-year-old man 9 years after cholecystectomy. Ultrasound analysis revealed unclear extrahepatic cholestasis and subsequent ERCP showed a large biliary stone sourrounding a T-tube fragment that had remained in the common bile duct for more than 9 years after surgery. The tip of the drainage and the stone could be successfully removed using Dormia baskets. This case suggests that plastic material accidentally left in the common bile duct favours the development of large biliary casts when present over long periods of time.

Emotional memory impairment produced by binge drinking in mice is counteracted by the anti-inflammatory indomethacin

Abstract The Binge Drinking (BD) pattern of alcohol consumption, prevalent in adolescents and young adults, has been associated with memory impairment. In addition, evidence shows that alcohol abuse causes neuroinflammation, which may contribute to the brain damage produced by alcohol and explain its cognitive consequences. In this study, we evaluated the effectiveness of the anti-inflammatory indomethacin in counteracting the memory impairment produced by alcohol (ethanol) in adolescent mice of both sexes. Muscle Activity Adaptations to Spinal Tissue Creep in the Presence of Muscle Fatigue.

Aim The aim of this study was to identify adaptations in muscle activity distribution to spinal tissue creep in presence of muscle fatigue. Methods Twenty-three healthy participants performed a fatigue task before and after 30 minutes of passive spinal tissue deformation in flexion. Right and left erector spinae activity was recorded using large-arrays surface electromyography (EMG). To characterize muscle activity distribution, dispersion was used. One of the main features of animal cell bioreactors is that the cultured cells lack a strong membrane and are therefore more prone to shear damage. It is widely accepted that animal cell damage in aerated bioreactors is mainly related to burst bubbles at the air–liquid interface.
