Rocking of rigid block on nonlinear flexible foundation

Abstract The two prime models used currently to describe rocking of rigid bodies, the Housner’s model and the Winkler foundation model, can capture some of the salient features of the physics of this important problem. These two models involve either null or linear interaction between the block and the foundation. A Mathematical Model for Vehicle-Occupant Frontal Crash Using Genetic Algorithm

In this paper, a mathematical model for vehicle-occupant frontal crash is developed. The developed model is represented as a double-spring-mass-damper system, whereby the front mass and the rear mass represent the vehicle chassis and the occupant, respectively. The springs and dampers in the model are nonlinear piecewise functions of displacements and velocities respectively. Optimization of Vehicle-to-Vehicle Frontal Crash Model Based on Measured Data Using Genetic Algorithm

In this paper, a mathematical model for vehicle-to-vehicle frontal crash is developed. The experimental data are taken from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. To model the crash scenario, the two vehicles are represented by two masses moving in opposite directions. The front structures of the vehicles are modeled by Kelvin elements, consisting of springs and dampers in parallel, and estimated as piecewise linear functions of displacements and velocities, respectively. In this paper mathematical modeling of a vehicle crash test based on a single-mass is studied. The model under consideration consists of a single-mass coupled with a spring and/or a damper. The parameters for the spring and damper are obtained by analyzing the measured acceleration in the center of gravity of the vehicle during a crash. This paper shows an investigation on optimal damping constant performed in the frequency domain. The optimal damping constant is meant as that value that minimizes the acceleration of all connected bodies characterizing a two degree of freedom system sketching a quarter car. Acute effects of cold pack on mechanical properties of the quadriceps muscle in healthy subjects.

Purpose: To examine the effects of local cooling on mechanical properties of the quadriceps muscle in healthy subjects. Subjects: Thirty-nine healthy subjects (27 women, 12 men, mean age 39, range 20e62) volunteered. Methods: A cold gel pack was applied to the quadriceps muscle for 20 min. Properties were quantified by analyzing the frequency (tension), decrement (elasticity) and stiffness of damped oscillations and the compliance of the muscle before, immediately after and after 15-min after cooling.
