Early assessment of crop yield from remotely sensed water stress and solar radiation data

2018

Soil moisture (SM) available for evapotranspiration is crucial for food security, given the significant interannual yield variability of rainfed crops in large agricultural regions. Also, incoming solar radiation (Rs) influences the photosynthetic rate of vegetated surfaces and can affect productivity. The aim of this work is to evaluate the ability of crop water stress and Rs remotely sensed data to forecast yield at regional scale. Temperature Vegetation Dryness Index (TVDI) was computed as an indicator of crop water stress and soil moisture availability. TVDI during critical growth stage of crops was calculated from MODIS products: MODIS/AQUA 8-day composite LST at 1 km and 16-day compos…

Purification, partial amino acid sequence and structure of the product of raucaffricine-O-β-d-glucosidase from plant cell cultures of Rauwolfia serpe…

1999

Plant cell suspension cultures of Rauwolfia produce within 1 week approximately 250 nkat/l of raucaffricine-O-beta-D-glucosidase. A five step procedure using anion exchange chromatography, chromatography on hydroxylapatite, gel filtration and FPLC-chromatography on Mono Q and Mono P delivered in a yield of 0.9% approximately 1200-fold enriched glucosidase. A short protocol employing DEAE sepharose, TSK 55 S gel chromatography and purification on Mono Q gave a 5% recovery of glucosidase which was 340-fold enriched. SDS-PAGE showed a Mr for the enzyme of 61 kDa. The enzyme is not glycosylated. Structural investigation of the enzyme product, vomilenine, demonstrated that the alkaloid exists in…

On the roles of Notch, Delta, kuzbanian, and inscuteable during the development of Drosophila embryonic neuroblast lineages

2009

AbstractThe generation of cellular diversity in the nervous system involves the mechanism of asymmetric cell division. Besides an array of molecules, including the Par protein cassette, a heterotrimeric G protein signalling complex, Inscuteable plays a major role in controlling asymmetric cell division, which ultimately leads to differential activation of the Notch signalling pathway and correct specification of the two daughter cells. In this context, Notch is required to be active in one sibling and inactive in the other. Here, we investigated the requirement of genes previously known to play key roles in sibling cell fate specification such as members of the Notch signalling pathway, e.g…

Towards a historiographical study of translation. A proposal for a historiography reader and its applications

2013

2014

ABSTRACT: This article studies the contemporizing of the ethical and social connotations ascribed to string and wind instruments by the Grecolatin tradition that Hispanic Emblematics carried out in the 16th and 17th centuries. This is most evident in the depiction of the legend of Apollo in his respective musical competitions against Marsyas and Pan. This contemporizing of the legends allows us to perceive the political, social and religious dimensions that these musical contests acquire in the Hispanic World. KEYWORDS: Apollo, Marsyas, Pan, Midas, Cithern, Lyre, Aulos, Vihuela , Guitar. RESUMEN: Se examina la actualizacion llevada a cabo por la emblematica hispana de los siglos XVI y XVII …

Latviešu valodas apguves iespējas lingvistiski neviendabīgā vidē pirmsskolā

2022

Darba autors: Liene Pustovaja Darba nosaukums: Latviešu valodas apguves iespējas lingvistiski neviendabīgā vidē pirmsskolā Pētījuma mērķis: pētīt 4-5 gadus vecu bērnu valodas attīstību muzikālajā darbībā. Darba tēmas aktualitāti nosaka gan nesenā pāreja uz jaunu, kompetencēs balstītu pirmsskolas mācību programmu, gan kopējā izglītības sistēmas pāreja uz mācībām valsts valodā, gan pēdējie pasaules politiskie notikumu, kuru iespaidā, piespiedu kārtā mainās daudzu bērnu dzīves vieta. Pirmajā darba daļā tiek pētīta un analizēta dažādu Latvijas un pasaules autoru ( Ž. Piažē, Ļ. Vigotska, G. Svences, A. Līdumas, B. Brices, u.c.) teorētiskā literatūra. Zinātnieku atziņu apkopošana un analizēšana ļ…

Mesocarnivore community structuring in the presence of Africa's apex predator

2021

This work was supported by the Peace Parks Foundation; G.C.S. was funded by a doctoral grant from Fundacão para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT: PD/BD/114037/2015); L.H.S. was supported by the National Research Foundation, South Africa (UID: 107099 and 115040) and by the African Institute for Conservation Ecology. Apex predator reintroductions have proliferated across southern Africa, yet their ecological effects and proposed umbrella benefits of associated management lack empirical evaluations. Despite a rich theory on top-down ecosystem regulation via mesopredator suppression, a knowledge gap exists relating to the influence of lions (Panthera leo) over Africa's diverse mesocarnivore (less …

Effect of some hexahydroimidazo[1,2-c]pyrimidines in inflammatory responses involving leucocytes and macrophages.

2001

Abstract We have studied the effects of some hexahydroimidazo[1,2-c]pyrimidine derivatives (HIPs) on leucocyte functions in-vitro and we have assayed the anti-inflammatory activity of these compounds in two models of inflammation. All HIPs inhibited the human neutrophil degranulation process and superoxide generation at concentrations in the μM range. In mouse peritoneal macrophages stimulated with lipopolysaccharide, HIP-4 and HIP-5 inhibited nitrite production without affecting prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) accumulation. HIP-4 was also active in the zymosan-injected mouse air pouch model (at 100 nmol/pouch), with significant reductions in leucocyte migration and PGE2 and leukotriene B4 levels i…

Upregulated transcription of phenoloxidase genes in the pharynx and endostyle of Ciona intestinalis in response to LPS

2015

We investigated the role of phenoloxidases (POs) in ascidians inflammatory reaction, a components of a copper-containing protein family involved in invertebrate immune system. In Ciona intestinalis two phenoloxidases (CinPO-1, CinPO-2) have been sequenced. In the present study, real time PCR analysis showed that both CinPO-1 and CinPO-2 genes were modulated by LPS inoculation suggesting that they are inducible and highly expressed in the inflamed pharynx. In situ hybridization disclosed CinPO-1 and CinPO-2 transcripts in pharynx hemocytes (granulocytes) and, mainly, in unilocular refractile granulocytes (URG) which mainly populated the inflamed tunic matrix. Interestingly, the genes are als…
