Cyclam-strapped porphyrins and their iron(III)-copper(II) complexes as models for the resting state of cytochrome c oxidase
1999
International audience; The ESR study of two cyclam-strapped porphyrins in which, on one side, the cyclam is attached with a variable length linker to the porphyrin and, on the other side, a non-coordinating strap protects the iron from any intermolecular interaction, is reported. Variation of the linker length is made possible by the use of either a Michael reaction or a nucleophilic substitution, leading respectively to three or two carbon atom links. It is shown that in the case of the shortest link, the oxidized ironÈcopper complex exhibits a spin interaction. The distance between thetwo metal centers is evaluated to be around 4.5 Å, a value consistent with the one found in the natural …
Electrochemical and bioelectrocatalytical properties of novel block-copolymers containing interacting ferrocenyl units
2008
The electrochemical characterization of three different polystyrene-b-polybutadiene block-copolymers, functionalized with diferrocenylsilane units, is reported. The PB-blocks have been functionalized with different fractions of electronicall y communicated, PSm-PB„ p (HSiMeFc2)p units, where m = 615, n = 53, p = 39 (1), m = 375, n = 92, p = 76 (2) and m = 455, n = 204, p = 170 (3). Electrochemical character ization has been carried out both in solution and after electrochemical deposition onto platinum electrodes. The bioelectrocatalytical properties of electrodes modified with the polymers in the nicotinamide dinucleotide (NADH) and glucose oxidase (GOx) oxidations have been investigated …
Effect of nanoaquacitrates on physiological parameters of Fodder Galega infected with phytoplasma
2018
The laboratory experiments have been found that so aking seeds Galega orientalis L. (Fodder galega) in nanoaquacitrates solutions of Mn (10 and 20 mg/dm 3), Mo (4 mg/dm3) and Mg (2 and 4 mg/dm3), has been lead to germination energy rise, while Mn( 10 and 20 mg/dm3) and Mo (4 mg/dm3) concentrations has been influenced germinating ability. At the same time, the soaking seeds in solution of nanoaquacitrates Mn (20 mg/dm3) had the biggest stimulatory effect on the accumulation 7 daily sprouts mass (on 18%). It has been shown that s oaking seeds in nanoparticles Mn and Mo solutions leads to the increase of catalase activities (especially under the influence of manganese) and peroxidase activitie…
(±)- BIGI-3h: Pentatarget-Directed Ligand combining Cholinesterase, Monoamine Oxidase, and Glycogen Synthase Kinase 3β Inhibition with Calcium Channe…
2021
Multitarget-directed ligands (MTDLs) are considered a promising therapeutic strategy to address the multifactorial nature of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Novel MTDLs have been designed as inhibitors of human acetylcholinesterases/butyrylcholinesterases, monoamine oxidase A/B, and glycogen synthase kinase 3β and as calcium channel antagonists via the Biginelli multicomponent reaction. Among these MTDLs, (±)-BIGI-3h was identified as a promising new hit compound showing in vitro balanced activities toward the aforementioned recognized AD targets. Additional in vitro studies demonstrated antioxidant effects and brain penetration, along with the ability to inhibit the aggregation of both τ protein…
Effects of cold acclimation and dsRNA injections on Gs1l gene splicing in Drosophila montana
2017
Abstract Alternative splicing, in which one gene produce multiple transcripts, may influence how adaptive genes respond to specific environments. A newly produced transcriptome of Drosophila montana shows the Gs1-like (Gs1l) gene to express multiple splice variants and to be down regulated in cold acclimated flies with increased cold tolerance. Gs1l’s effect on cold tolerance was further tested by injecting cold acclimated and non-acclimated flies from two distantly located northern and southern fly populations with double stranded RNA (dsRNA) targeting Gs1l. While both populations had similar cold acclimation responses, dsRNA injections only effected the northern population. The nature of …
Fabry Disease With Concomitant Lewy Body Disease
2019
AbstractAlthough Gaucher disease can be accompanied by Lewy pathology (LP) and extrapyramidal symptoms, it is unknown if LP exists in Fabry disease (FD), another progressive multisystem lysosomal storage disorder. We aimed to elucidate the distribution patterns of FD-related inclusions and LP in the brain of a 58-year-old cognitively unimpaired male FD patient suffering from predominant hypokinesia. Immunohistochemistry (CD77, α-synuclein, collagen IV) and neuropathological staging were performed on 100-µm sections. Tissue from the enteric or peripheral nervous system was unavailable. As controls, a second cognitively unimpaired 50-year-old male FD patient without LP or motor symptoms and 3…
Evidence of oxidative stress in very long chain fatty acid--treated oligodendrocytes and potentialization of ROS production using RNA interference-di…

X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy (X-ALD) and pseudo neonatal adrenoleukodystrophy (P-NALD) are neurodegenerative demyelinating diseases resulting from the functional loss of the peroxisomal ATP-binding cassette transporter D (ABCD1) and from single peroxisomal enzyme deficiency (Acyl-CoA oxidase1: ACOX1), respectively. As these proteins are involved in the catabolism of very long chain fatty acids (VLCFA: C24:0, C26:0), X-ALD and P-NALD patients are characterized by the accumulation of VLCFA in plasma and tissues. Since peroxisomes are involved in the metabolism of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and nitrogen species (RNS), we examined the impact of VLCFA on the oxidative status of 158N murine o…
Increased susceptibility of microcytic red blood cells to in vitro oxidative stress.
1995
Oxidative damage to erythrocytes in thalassaemia has been related to generation of free radicals by an excess of denaturated alpha- or beta-globin chains, intracellular iron overload and low concentration of normal haemoglobin (HGB). Two good indicators of such oxidative damage are the high red blood cell (RBC) malonyldialdehyde (MDA) production detected following exogenous oxidant stress and the decrease of pyrimidine 5'-nucleotidase (P5N), the most sensitive enzyme to SH-group damage in vivo. Conflicting data, however, have so far accumulated in the literature concerning differences in oxidative damage between the different forms of thalassaemia and iron deficiency anaemia (IDA). In the p…
