The clinical use of statistical permutation test methodology: a tool for identifying predictive variables of outcome.

2015

<b><i>Objectives:</i></b> To identify the predictive variables affecting the outcome after radical surgery for bladder cancer by a newer statistical methodology, i.e. nonparametric combination (NPC). <b><i>Methods:</i></b> A multicenter study enrolled 1,312 patients who had undergone radical cystectomy for bladder cancer in 11 Italian oncological centers from January 1982 to December 2002. A statistical analysis<b> </b>of their medical history and diagnostic, pathological and postoperative variables was performed using a NPC test. The<b> </b>patients were included in a comprehensive database with medical history and cli…

Bronhiālās astmas ārstēšanai izmantojamo zāļu aprite A aptiekā 23 Krāslavā no 2012.gada līdz 2015. gadam

2015

Šī darbā mērķis ir noskaidrot bronhiālās astmas ārstēšanā izmantojamo zāļu aprites tendences kopš 2012. gada līdz 2015. gadam A Aptiekā 23 Krāslavā, balstoties uz Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) 2011.g. vadlīnījām. Var secināt, ka lielas atšķirības šo triju gadu l…

Pacing ventricolare destro: una risorsa o una minaccia?

2005

Early after the beginning of the pacemaker era, endocardial right ventricular apex has been the most extensively used site for cardiac pacing because it was easily accessible and reliable in a long-term perspective. However many data have demonstrated that this kind of pacing is suboptimal from a physiologic point of view because it causes several adverse effects such as altered ventricular contraction geometry, mitral regurgitation, perfusion alterations and interference with myocardial ion channels which determine a worsening of left ventricular function. Several strategies have been proposed to solve these problems (alternative pacing sites, specific algorithms able to reduce the percent…

Uso degli inibitori di pompa protonica in un Policlinico Universitario

2012

Summary Introduction Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are highly prescribed drugs in Italy and in particular in the Sicilian region but little is known about their use in the hospital setting. Materials and methods PPI utilization and related costs were reviewed retrospectively by examining the pharmaceutical records of drug dispensation to the various wards of the Policlinico Universitario P. Giaccone of Palermo in 2010. Differences in the prescribing rates and drug preferences among the different clinical wards were analyzed. Results A total of 20,420 patients were hospitalized at the Policlinico of Palermo in 2010. Overall, the consumption of PPIs was 120 DDD/100 bed-days for the year 2010 …

RESTful tīmekļa servisa izstrāde apdrošināšanas uzņēmumam

2017

Antimicrobial consumption and antimicrobial resistance: A snapshot of an Italian neuromuscular rehabilitation center

2017

The paper presents a snapshot of the incidence of antimicrobial-resistant microorganisms and antimicrobial consumption in an Italian rehabilitation center over a two-year period (2014-2015). Data on microorganism identification and antimicrobial susceptibility testing were obtained from the diagnostic laboratory of the hospital. A set of indicators was assessed, including the incidence density of resistant isolates per 1000 patient-days (IDRI). Data on antimicrobial consumption, semi-annually, obtained from the hospital pharmacy, were expressed as Defined Daily Dose (DDD) per 1000 patient-days. The most frequently isolated microorganism was Klebsiella pneumoniae (19.3%), and a significant i…

Aspetti etici e controllo di gestione dei farmaci antibiotici antibatterici

2010

Summary Introduction Antibacterial prescribing practices between 2004 and 2008 were investigated in the P. Giaccone University Hospital in Palermo, Italy to provide a foundation for critical analysis of the appropriateness of health-care resource usage. Materials and methods Antibiotic prescribing practices between 2004 and 2008 were analyzed in the hospital as a whole and in different specialty areas. Results were expressed as defined daily doses (DDD) as a function of bed-days, number of admissions, and Diagnosis Related Group (DRG) points. Results During the study period, increases were observed in the overall DDD per 100 bed-days (68.7 vs. 91.3) and the DDD per admission (4.53 vs. 5.54)…

The use of low molecular weight heparin in a Sicilian teaching hospital

2013

LMWH are replacing unfractionated heparin (UFH) for therapeutic anticoagulation owing to their more predictable pharmacokinetics and ease of use. Especially in Sicily, their prescription volume is steadily increasing in general practice, but little is known about their use in the hospital setting. We investigated LMWH use at the Policlinico Universitario P. Giaccone of Palermo by examining the records of drug dispensation to the wards in the years 2010-2012. From 2010 to 2012 the use of LMWH at Policlinico of Palermo remained stable with a mean of 71 DDD/100 bed days (range 69-73) of drugs dispensed. Enoxaparin, nadroparin and reviparin were the most prescribed molecules, accounting each on…

Safety and efficacy of cervical disc arthroplasty in preventing the adjacent segment disease: a meta-analysis of mid- to long-term outcomes in prospe…

2019

Objectives: Cervical disc arthroplasty (CDA) has become an alternative treatment for cervical radiculopathy and myelopathy. This technique preserves appropriate motion at both the index and adjacent disc levels and consequently may prevent adjacent segment degeneration (ASD). The authors performed a meta-analysis to compare the safety and efficacy of CDA to those of the gold standard, anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF). Both surgical and clinical parameters were employed to verify the hypothesis that CDA can reduce the risk of ASD. Methods: The meta-analysis comprised high-quality randomized controlled trials that compared CDA and ACDF treatments of cervical degenerative disc di…
