Characterization of automotive shredder residues before and five years after landfill disposal

2015

The paper illustrates the results of an extensive analytical characterization study of automotive shredder residues (ASR), also known as "fluff". The analyses concerned material fractions and their content, with special reference to heavy metals (e.g. Cd, Cr, Hg, Pb, Cu) and arsenic. Elution tests on the original materials were also conducted. Moreover, chemical concentrations of ASR samples after about five years' landfill residence was assessed, in order to verify possible changes resulting from both in-situ leaching and organic matter degradation phenomena. Results show that lead seems to be the most critical element in view of possible ASR acceptance in non-hazardous waste landfills bec…

PATIENT’S COMPLIANCE TO BCG. DO WE ADEQUATELY CONSIDER IT?

2014

Introduction: Several studies and meta-analysis demonstrated that BCG is the best treatment for conservative management of high-risk NMI-BC with a net benefit in terms of both recurrence-free and progression-free survival (1, 2). Maintenance lasting minimum one year is recommended. In spite of the effectiveness, the amount of patients who complete the manteinance schedule does not exceed 50% (3). The reasons of BCG maintenance interruption remain still unclear. The aim of our study was to investigate the causes of low adherence to 1-year full dose maintenance BCG in a large series. Patients and Methods: The clinical files of consecutive patients affected by T1 HG NMI-BC and undergoing adjuv…

Conservative management of T1G3 transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder. Risk factor analysis in 165 selected patients

2003

INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVE: The management of TlG3 transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder (TCCB), is still controversial. Some Authors support an immediate radical cystectomy. BCG is considered the treatment of choice. Limited encouraging experiences are reported with intravesical chemotherapy. Objectives; Evaluating a selected population of 165 patients with TlG3 TCCB, in absence of Tis, treated conservatively with TUR plus adjuvant intravesical therapy. METHODS: Between January 1976 and December 1999, 165 patients with TlG3 bladder tumors were treated by TUR plus adjuvant intravesical therapy. Patients with previuos T1G3, Tis, more than 3 tumors or greater than 3 em were excluded. A s…

Accessibility of eGovernment Web Sites: Towards a Collaborative Retrofitting Approach

2010

Published version of a chapter from the book: Computers Helping People with Special Needs. The original publication is available at www.springerlink.com: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-642-14097-6_75 Accessibility benchmarking is efficient to raise awareness and initiate competition. However, traditional benchmarking is of little avail when it comes to removing barriers from eGovernment web sites in practice. Regulations and legal enforcement may be helpful in a long-term perspective. For more rapid progress both vendors and web site maintainers are willing to take short-term action towards improvements, provided that clear advise is available. The approach of the eGovernment Monitoring pro…

Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH) on Formalin-Fixed Paraffin-Embedded (FFPE) Tissue Sections

2011

Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH) is a powerful technique for localizing specific DNA targets directly in the fixed tissue or cells. Bacterial artificial chromosome (BAC) as well as commercial probes, which could be supplied ready for use or concentrated and must be diluted following the manufacturers instructions, can be used. The technique requires 2 days, as an overnight incubation of the FISH probes is needed for optimal hybridization. The critical steps include deparaffinization of tissue sections, optimal pretreatment (target retrieval and protein digestion), and probe hybridization. In this chapter, the described FISH protocol provides a methodology for analyzing the cytogene…

Counterexamples to the Kalman Conjectures

2018

In the paper counterexamples to the Kalman conjecture with smooth nonlinearity basing on the Fitts system, that are periodic solution or hidden chaotic attractor are presented. It is shown, that despite the fact that Kalman’s conjecture (as well as Aizerman’s) turned out to be incorrect in the case of n > 3, it had a huge impact on the theory of absolute stability, namely, the selection of the class of nonlinear systems whose stability can be studied with linear methods. peerReviewed

Predictions forNDK,K̄DNandNDD̄molecules

2012

In this work baryon systems made of three hadrons which contain one nucleon and one D meson, and in addition another meson, , K or , are investigated using the Fixed Center Approximation to the Faddeev equations. In this work we use Λc(2595), X(3700) and D*s0(2317) bound states as a cluster and a third particle scattering form that clusters. In all cases we find bound states and quasibound states.
