Group Decision-Making Processes in Industrial Software Evolution

2007

Software evolution decision-making is important. Decisions can be made by an individual or a group. Currently it is not known how decision-making is organized in software industry. However, that knowledge is needed to improve the decision-making processes. Therefore, we have studied 29 decision making experts, who were involved in software evolution decision-making. The study was performed with qualitative methods, which enabled the gathering of versatile information concerning the views of the decision-makers. The study revealed group decisions are widely used both in private and public organizations and attitudes towards them are generally positive or neutral. The study provided informati…

Quantum computing challenges in the software industry. A fuzzy AHP-based approach

2022

Context The current technology revolution has posed unexpected challenges for the software industry. In recent years, the field of quantum computing (QC) technologies has continued to grow in influence and maturity, and it is now poised to revolutionise software engineering. However, the evaluation and prioritisation of QC challenges in the software industry remain unexplored, relatively under-identified and fragmented. Objective The purpose of this study is to identify, examine and prioritise the most critical challenges in the software industry by implementing a fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (F-AHP). Method First, to identify the key challenges, we conducted a systematic literature rev…

The Nature of Knowledge and Decisions on Activity Sourcing: An Innovation Model

2006

The main drivers for R& D collaboration uncovered by the economic literature are the access to external cognitive capabilities and costs. Very seldom the nature of knowledge has been considered a determining factor for activity externalisation. This paper analyses the role of the nature of knowledge in the locus of innovation. Then, a knowledge management model for the internalisation of innovative activities is developed. The model proposed allows executives to summarize their strategic reflection about innovation, leading to a more coherent decision making process. The research is implemented to the innovative activities performed by Spanish firms in the agro-chemical industry. The empiri…

Multi-criteria risk classification to enhance complex supply networks performance

2021

[EN] Management of complex supply networks is a fundamental business topic today. Especially in the presence of many and diverse stakeholders, identifying and assessing those risks having a potential negative impact on the performance of supply processes is of utmost importance and, as a result, implementing focused risk management actions is a current lively field of research. The possibility of supporting Supply Chain Risks Management (SCRM) is herein explored from a Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM)-based perspective. The sorting method ELimination Et Choix Traduisant la REalite (ELECTRE) TRI is proposed as a structural procedure to classify Supply Chain Risks (SCRs) into proper risk…

How sustainability factors influence maintenance of water distribution systems feeding manufacturing industries

2022

This work aims to analyse the role played by relevant sustainability factors towards the implementation of maintenance interventions in the manufacturing industrial sector. In this context, we focus on industrial water distribution systems, on whose effective work depends the functioning of core plants as well as general industrial facilities. In detail, we propose aMulti-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) application based on the use of the Analytic Network Process (ANP) as amethodological way to prioritise maintenance interventions while considering the influence of some of themost relevant sustainability factors identified in literature. The main advantage of such an approach consists in th…

'Participative foresight scenario mapping': adapting an MCM method to appraise foresight scenarios for the long term sustainable development of a sma…

2016

Multi-criteria mapping (MCM) appraisal has been used in projects involving decisions related to specific technologies or policies in risk analysis. In this research, MCM has been adapted for appraising in a participative way holistic scenarios for a small isolated island. The procedural novelty relies on how the scenario building and the criteria selection were undertaken. Two scenarios for Flores Island (Portugal) were developed in a two step process involving, firstly, specialised stakeholders and decision-makers, and secondly, lay citizens. The scenarios aimed at proposing alternative visions of future. This article analyses the methodological aspects of the project (scenario development…

Exploring Innovation Adoption Behavior for Sustainable Development: The Case of Hungarian Food Sector

2020

Innovation plays a key role in the success and sustainable development of businesses. The innovation process derives from the combination of personal skills and company resources that influence food company managers in their choices on innovation (the decision-making process). This study is an attempt to try to understand which psychological constructs affect innovation decision-making in the Hungarian food sector, using the empirical data from a 2017 survey conducted in Hungary among the largest food processing companies. Planned behavior theory (TPB) was applied to the study of factors affecting innovation decision-making. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was used for data analysis. The…

Predictors of early scaffold thrombosis: results from the multicenter prospective German-Austrian ABSORB RegIstRy.

2018

BACKGROUND In randomized clinical trials, the risk of thrombotic events with the absorb bioresorbable vascular scaffold (BVS) was significantly higher than with metallic drug-eluting stents. We evaluated predictors of scaffold thrombosis in the large-scale, multicenter German-Austrian ABSORB RegIstRy. METHODS AND RESULTS 3178 patients with treatment of 4252 lesions using 5020 scaffolds were included. Follow-up rate at 6 months was 97.4%. Forty-five (1.42%) patients experienced definite/probable scaffold thrombosis during follow-up. Multiple regression analysis showed implantation of absorb BVS in bifurcation lesions [odds ratio (OR): 4.43; 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.69-11.59; P=0.0024]…
