Abstract In these last decades, the awareness that soil is a very important resource for humans has noticeably increased. Many actions and initiatives to promote soil governance, aiming at sustainable soil management and soil security have been undertaken by several national and international institutions and in many countries. Analysis of the changes of soil perception over the centuries allows highlighting a perfect harmony between the evolution of soil awareness and the level of knowledge and technology achieved by humans during their history and evolution. H.264/MVC is a standard for supporting the sensation of 3D, based on coding from 2 (stereo) to N views. H.264/MVC adopts many coding options inherited from single view H.264/AVC, and thus its complexity is even higher, mainly because the number of processing views is higher. In this manuscript, we aim at an efficient parallelization of the most computationally intensive video encoding module for stereo sequences. Associations of muscular fitness and body composition in children

Purpose: To examine the associations between muscular fitness (MF) and body composition. Method: MF was assessed with three tests of FitnessGram test battery. Total body fat percentage (BF%), abdominal fat percentage (AF%) and fat-free mass (FFM) were measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA). The IOTF body mass index (BMI) cut-offs were used to define healthy weight, overweight, and obesity. Results: MF was inversely associated with BF% and AF%. The children in the moderate and high MF groups had significantly lower BF% and AF% compared with the children in the low MF group within the same BMI category. La regione dei Caraibi abbraccia, infatti, sia alcune delle isole dell’arcipelago delle Piccole Antille (Martinica, Guadalupa), sia l’isola di Haïti, che fa parte delle Grandi Antille, che la Guiana incastonata sulla costa orientale dell’America meridionale. Pur nella diversità dei movimenti ideologici e degli avvenimenti storici che si sono succeduti nella regione, le opere letterarie degli scrittori caraibici francofoni, nel loro insieme, hanno oscillato, e continuano …

The definition "Franco-Caribbean Literature" used by convention from the critique to indicate all the literary production in French of the central region of the American continent is very improper. The Caribbean region includes in fact the islands of Martinique Guadeloupe Haïti and the Guiana. Despite the diversity of ideological movements and historical events that took place in these countries the literary works of the Caribbean writers have fluctuated and continue to oscillate between two tendencies: that of rooting in tradition and that of escape from it. The writers show themselves open to comparison and dialogue with other literary and cultural traditions in order to create a narrative form that corresponds to the many inheritances of those composite populations. Here the cultural syncretism that has been created allows to recognize a common identity in the name of all that the West wanted to extinguish. The common denominator seems to be inverted in the contradictory result of courageous but dangerous encounters of curiosities that can lead to conflicts to exclusions.

The volume Tommaso Maria Napoli Utriusque Architecturae Brief Compendium 1688 Rome treaty on civil and military factories and preservation of the architecture of the Dominican friar Tommaso Maria Napoli wants to help increase our understanding of the principles that should underpin the realization of civil and military baroque and late baroque period as expressed in the short treatise written by the monk architect born in Palermo Tommaso Maria Napoli (1659-1725) and published in Rome at the end of the seventeenth century. This translation from the Latin of the treaty drawn up by experts (Fabio Zarbo e Pietro Zarbo) included is an interesting research drafted jointly with Giuseppe Tantillo status of some of the architecture without realizing or attributed to the architect Tommaso Maria Napoli. In fact some cards are attached to the volume on the substance and state of preservation of the cathedral of the Assumption of Mary in Dubrovnik (Croatia) of the villas Valguarnera and Palagonia in Bagheria (near Palermo Italy) of the monument to the Immaculate and one of the towers of the church of San Domenico in Palermo (Italy). The volume is enriched by the presentation and afterword by Francesco Tomaselli that among other things starting from the definition of Restoration expressed by Tommaso Maria Napoli in his book presents a stimulating reflection on the meaning of Restoration. On the problem of visualizing point distributions in high dimensional spaces

Abstract Exploring dynamical systems with the aid of computer graphics requires that the relevant structures can be seen and be noticed. This poses special problems if the system is multidimensional, and it has to be decided which kind of projection serves the purpose. I propose using the mathematical frame of categories and functors to describe the process of visualization. This allows detecting and analyzing possible sources of misinterpretation in a formal way. Polluting loads detection in power systems: a decision-making strategy based on nonactive power measurements

In this paper a novel decision-making strategy is proposed for the detection of polluting loads in three-phase power systems. It makes use of simple indices, which are expressed as a function of some nonactive power quantities, previously proposed by the authors and derived from the approach of the IEEE Std. 1459–2000. The decision-making rules for the proposed strategy are presented and discussed, by means of some simulation tests.

A Time-Domain Approach Based on the IEEE Std 1459-2000 for the detection of Loads Producing Harmonic Distortion

This paper presents a novel strategy for the detection of harmonic sources in power systems for both the single-phase and the three-phase systems. It is based on the IEEE Std. 1459-2000 approach and it is based only on the separation of the fundamental components from the harmonic content of voltage and current. The proposed strategy do not require any spectral analysis of voltages and currents and it can be entirely implemented in the time domain. In the paper, the formulation of the novel approach is given and some simulation results are presented.
