Lipid nanocarriers containing sorafenib inhibit colonies formation in human hepatocarcinoma cells

2015

Here, the potential of two nanostructured lipid carriers (NLC) for controlled release of sorafenib was evaluated. The obtained systems showed characteristics suitable as drug delivery systems for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) through parenteral administration. The use of a mixture between a solid lipid (tripalmitin) with a liquid lipid (Captex 355 EP/NF or Miglyol 812) to prepare NLC systems could give a higher drug loading capacity and a longer term stability during storage than that obtained by using only solid lipids. The obtained nanoparticles showed a nanometer size and high negative zeta potential values. Scansion electron microscopy (SEM) of the sorafenib loaded NLC…

Novel inhibitors in development for hepatocellular carcinoma

2010

The multikinase inhibitor sorafenib was the first agent to demonstrate a survival benefit for patients with locally advanced or metastatic hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Although sorafenib represents a landmark in the treatment of HCC and proved molecularly targeted therapy to be effective in this disease, it represents just the first step towards an improvement in systemic therapy. Since then, novel inhibitors have been evaluated in early clinical trials, showing potential activity. This article aims to review novel inhibitors emerging in the field of advanced HCC. An Internet-based search was performed to identify abstracts, clinical trials ( www.clinicaltrials.gov , last accessed 30 Nove…

Influence of E-smoking liquids on human periodontal ligament fibroblasts.

2014

Introduction: Over the last years, electronic cigarettes (ECs) have become more popular, particularly in individuals who want to give up smoking tobacco. The aim of the present study was to assess the influence of the different e-smoking liquids on the viability and proliferation of human periodontal ligament fibroblasts. Method and materials: For this study six test solutions with components from ECs were selected: lime-, hazelnut- and menthol-flavored liquids, nicotine, propylene glycol, and PBS as control group. The fibroblasts were incubated up to 96 h with the different liquids, and cell viability was measured by using the PrestoBlue® reagent, the ATP detection and the migration assay.…

Priekšlaicīgu dzemdību izraisītu grūtniecības komplikāciju izvērtējums.

2017

Gellan gum-based delivery systems of therapeutic agents and cells.

2020

The purpose of this review is to make a summary of high quality research trends using gellan gum (GG) as a polymeric constituent for the design of innovative drug delivery systems and devices for biomedical applications, such as cell therapy and regenerative medicine. The use of gellan gum is described both in its native form and as chemically functionalized derivatives or physically mixed with natural or synthetic materials. Starting from a systematic study of recent research works, the main properties of the native polysaccharide have been highlighted and therefore some improvements have been focused thanks to the design of chemically functionalized derivatives and the use of composite ma…

Optimizing taxane use in MBC in the emerging era of targeted chemotherapy.

2013

The first-generation taxanes, conventional paclitaxel and docetaxel, are established treatment options for adjuvant and metastatic breast cancer (MBC). However, these agents have limitations, including primary/secondary resistance and harsh toxicities. The introduction of paclitaxel albumin represents a significant advance in taxane therapy as the first of a new generation of taxanes. This agent utilizes albumin pathways to achieve enhanced and targeted drug delivery to the tumour. The lack of solvent also means that it is well tolerated, despite the lack of premedications. Paclitaxel albumin is licensed in the United States and Europe as ≥2nd-line therapy in MBC (260mg/m(2) once every thre…

Testicular germ-cell tumours and penile squamous cell carcinoma: Appropriate management makes the difference

2019

Germ-cell tumours (GCT) of the testis and penile squamous cell carcinoma (PeSCC) are a rare and a very rare uro-genital cancers, respectively. Both tumours are well defined entities in terms of management, where specific recommendations - in the form of continuously up-to-dated guide lines- are provided. Impact of these tumour is relevant. Testicular GCT affects young, healthy men at the beginning of their adult life. PeSCC affects older men, but a proportion of these patients are young and the personal consequences of the disease may be devastating. Deviation from recommended management may be a reason of a significant prognostic worsening, as proper treatment favourably impacts on these t…

Centre characteristics and procedure-related factors have an impact on outcomes of allogeneic transplantation for patients with CLL: a retrospective …

2017

Abstract Introduction:Even in the era of novel targeted therapies for the treatment of Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) patients, such as BTK, PI3K and BCL2 inhibitors, allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantations (alloHCT) will remain an important treatment option for a subset of patients with very high risk CLL. The current study focused on the impact of center and procedure-related factors on outcomes after alloHCT, taking into account the impact of patient- and disease-related risk factors. Patients and Methods:Data of 684 CLL patients who received a first alloHCT between 2000 and 2011 were analyzed. Their data were collected as part of the EBMT CLL Data Quality Initiative. Out…
