Cement augmentation for trochanteric fracture in elderly: A systematic review()
2021
Abstract Background Cement augmentation of internal fixation of hip fracture has reported to improve fracture stability in osteoporotic hip fractures, reducing the risk of cut-out of the sliding screw through the femoral head. The purpose of present study was to perform a systematic literature review on the effects of augmentation technique in patients with osteoporotic hip fractures. Material and methods A comprehensive literature search was systematically performed to evaluate all papers published in English language included in the literature between January 2010 and July 2020, according to the PRISMA 2009 guidelines. In vivo and in vitro studies, case reports, review articles, cadaveric…

Group 1 ITI Consensus Report: The influence of implant length and design and medications on clinical and patient-reported outcomes. Clinical Oral Implants Research, 29(S16), 69-77, can be accessed at https://doi.org/10.1111/clr.13342. This article may be used for non-commercial purposes in accordance with Wiley Terms and Conditions for Use of Self-Archived Versions. Objectives: The aim of Working Group 1 was to address the influence of different local (implant length, diameter, and design) and systemic (medications) factors on clinical, radiographic, and patient‐re…
Minimally invasive prosthetic procedures in the rehabilitation of a bulimic patient affected by dental erosion
2015
The population affected by dental erosion due to bulimia is generally very young. This population group has a high aesthetic requirement; the dentition in these patients is severely damaged, especially in the anterior maxillary quadrant. In terms of treatment, it is still controversial whether an adhesive rehabilitation is preferable to a longer-lasting but more aggressive conventional treatment, such as full-crown coverage of the majority of teeth. This case report describes the prosthetic rehabilitation of a young female patient previously affected by bulimia nervosa and presenting erosion of the maxillary teeth. The prosthetic rehabilitation was performed through indirect adhesive restor…
Teaching the placement of posterior resin-based composite restorations in Spanish dental schools
2012
Objectives: In an area of esthetic dentistry such as posterior composites, in which new materials and techniques are being devolved continuously, it is important to confirm that dental students have a clear understanding of the basic principles of clinical application of this knowledge. Considering that the preparation of dental graduates in Spain may be of interest to competent dental authorities and employers with whom they can work worldwide, this study investigated the teaching of posterior composite restorations in Spanish dental schools. Study design: In late 2009/ early 2010, a questionnaire seeking information on the teaching of posterior composites was emailed to the professor resp…
Temporomandibular joint arthrocentesis. Review of the literature.
2011
The treatment of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is still controversial. TMJ arthrocentesis represents a form of minimally invasive surgical treatment in patients suffering from internal derangement of the TMJ, especially closed lock. It consists of washing the joint with the possibility of depositing a drug or other therapeutic substance. Resolution of symptoms is due to the removal of chemical inflammatory mediators and changes in intra-articular pressure. Numerous clinical studies regarding this technique have been published. The goal of this paper is to review all clinical articles that have been published with regard to the critique of this technique. 19 articles with different desig…
Efficacy of Computer-Aided Static Navigation Technique on the Accuracy of Endodontic Microsurgery. A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
2021
The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to analyze the efficacy of the computer-aided static navigation technique on the accuracy of root apex location in endodontic microsurgery. Material and Methods: A systematic literature review and meta-analysis, based on Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) recommendations, of clinical studies that evaluated the apex location rate of the computer-aided static navigation techniques applied to endodontic microsurgery. A total of four databases were consulted in the literature search: Pubmed-Medline, Scopus, Cochrane, and Web of Science. After eliminating duplicated articles and applying the inclusio…
Thermal necrosis-aided dental implant removal:A rabbit model pilot study
2023
The significant advances in the materials and biological aspects of dental implants haven?t completely eradicated the implant failures. The removal of osseointegrated but otherwise failed implants present several challenges including adjacent tissues damage and necessity of bone augmentation for reimplantation. Controlled thermal necrosis has emerged as an alternative technique to aid removal of osseointegrated dental implants with minimal to no defect to healthy bone or surrounding tissues. This study aimed to evaluate the thermal necrosis-aided implant removal method in a rabbit osseointegration model. A total of 8 male New Zealand rabbits were used in the study. Two dental implants were …
Preoperative oral practices and incidence of postoperative complications in hospital medical-surgical procedures: A meta-analysis
2023
Oral decay prior to a hospital medical-surgical procedure is a risk factor for the development of postoperative complications. However, perioperative oral practices as a protective factor have not been studied. This review aims to evaluate the effectiveness of perioperative oral practices in the reduction of risk of developing postoperative complications in in-hospital medical surgical procedures. This review and meta-analysis was conducted according to Cochrane guidelines. Medline, Scopus, Scielo, and Cochrane were consulted. Articles of the previous 10 years concerning adult patients undergoing perioperative oral practices prior to hospital medical-surgical procedures, were included. Dat…
Pfeiffer syndrome: clinical and genetic findings in five Brazilian families
2014
Pfeiffer syndrome (PS) is mainly characterized by craniosysnostosis, midface hypoplasia, great toes with partial syndactyly of the digits and broad and medially deviated thumbs. It is caused by allelic mutations in the fibroblast growth factor receptor 1 and 2 (FGFR1 and 2) genes. This study describes the clinical and genetic features of five Brazilian families affected by PS. All patients exhibited the classical phenotypes related to PS. The genetic analysis was able to detect the mutations Cys278Phe, Cys342Arg, and Val359Leu in three of these families. Two mutations were de novo, with one familial. We identified pathogenic mutations in four PS cases in five Brazilian families by PCR seque…
Detection of bifid mandibular condyle using computed tomography
2011
Objective: To determine the frequency and characteristics of bifid mandibular condyle (BMC) using computed tomography (CT) evaluation. Study Design: A retrospective study was carried out using the CT records of 550 patients referred to the Medical School of Erciyes University (Kayseri, Turkey) between 2007 and 2010. T-tests were used to compare frequency of BMC between the left and right sides and between female and male patients. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS software and a chi-squared test. Results: Of the 550 Patients, 10 patients (1.82%) were found to have BMCs. Five patients were female (50%) and five were male (50%). Of these 10 patients, 7 (70%) had unilateral and 3 (…
