ZnO/CdTe/CuSCN, a promising heterostructure to act as inorganic eta-solar cell

2005

Abstract The ZnO/CdTe/CuSCN heterostructure was analyzed as a candidate to act as an inorganic eta -solar cell. A ZnO film consisting of single crystal nanocolumns was electrodeposited on a transparent conducting substrate which acts as n-type material. As absorber material we used CdTe, which was deposited on the ZnO columnar film by Metal Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition. In order to complete the eta -solar cell we deposited a CuSCN layer by chemical solution deposition. A conformal and uniform CdTe coverage of the ZnO columns was achieved, producing a very efficient light trapping effect. The effective absorption (∼87%) and effective reflectance (∼10%) of the complete heterostructure in…

Facilitating IP deployment in a MARTE-based MDE methodology using IP-XACT: a XILINX EDK case study

2012

International audience; In this paper we present framework for the deployment of hardware IPs at high-levels of abstraction. It is based in a model- driven approach that aims at the automatic generation of Dynamic Partial Reconfiguration designs created in Xilinx Platform Studio (XPS). Contrary to previous approaches, we make use of the IP-XACT standard to facilitate the deployment of hardware IPs, their parameterization and subsequent integration. We propose an extension to the MARTE profile for IP deployment, and we introduce the necessary model transformations to obtain a high- level representation from an IP-XACT component library. These models are then used to create a platform in MART…

Extended Depth-of-Field 3-D Display and Visualization by Combination of Amplitude-Modulated Microlenses and Deconvolution Tools

2005

One of the main challenges in 3-D display and visualization is to overcome its limited depth of field. Such limitation is due to the fast deterioration of lateral resolution for out-of-focus object positions. Here we propose a new method to significantly extend the depth of field. The method is based on the combined benefits of a proper amplitude modulation of the microlenses, and the application of deconvolution tools. Numerical tests are presented to verify the theoretical analysis.

Path Dependence of Power Relations, Path-Breaking Change and Technological Adaptation

2011

We study the path dependence of technological systems and power relations inside companies. While the existing literature suggests power relations and technology to be path dependent and influenced by each other, interactions across these evolutionary processes remain poorly understood. We studied the history of four retail firms over 40 years, applying event structure analysis to explicate key dynamics. Companies exhibited two episodes of converging path dependency, where power relations further increased technological inertia. In each case, power initially concentrated outside the central headquarters. Path-breaking change led all firms to centralize power and implement networked IT syste…

TuinLEC, an intelligent tutoring system to improve reading literacy skills / TuinLEC, un tutor inteligente para mejorar la competencia lectora

2014

AbstractThis study describes an intelligent tutoring system to improve reading literacy skills called TuinLEC and it presents the results of its application to a group of sixth grade students. TuinLEC adopts the reading literacy theoretical framework of PISA (Program for International Students Assessment, OECD, 2009). TuinLEC includes eight lessons distributed in two phases, one for modeling and guided practice, and the second for independent practice. TuinLEC interacts with every student and it provides help and feedback for the task in a game-like environment. Half of the students were taught with TuinLEC, whereas the other half served as the control group. Children in both groups were pa…

Intelligent transport systems harmonisation assessment: use case of some Spanish intelligent transport systems services

2013

From the 1980s, new telematic technologies have meant a great evolution in several areas. In the transportation domain, their use has implied the development and implementation of several intelligent transport systems (ITS). However, these deployments were done in an isolated way. Traffic managers, public and private organisations, stakeholders and others have implemented ITS without much perspective, that is, without providing ITS as services for end users. In the last few years, several European Union (EU) funded projects have been dealing with the development of harmonised ITS services. For example, the EasyWay Project is involving most of the European countries (EU member states and oth…

Relationships between leisure time physical activity, physical fitness and mental health among young adult males

2017

Physical activity has been seen as an important tool to prevent both physical and mental disorders like depression and anxiety. However, previous research has mainly focused on mental health problems rather than positive mental health. The aim of the present study was to investigate the association of leisure time physical activity (LTPA) and physical fitness with mental distress and positive mental health. The study sample consisted of 792 men (mean age 26 years) who participated in the study prior their military refresher-training course. Cardio-respiratory and muscle fitness tests were measured, and LTPA, positive mental health (Warwick–Edinburgh Mental Wellbeing Scale, SWEMWBS) and ment…

Glutamate Enhances Brain Damage from Ischemia and Trauma

1997

The amino acid glutamate is a model agent to demonstrate the significance of neurotoxic mediator compounds in secondary brain damage from trauma, ischemia or other adverse conditions. Intensive research of the role of mediator compounds is clinically worthwile as more specific forms of treatment may emerge for the benefit of afflicted patients. In view of the great number of factors, cytokines, etc., which could play a role, it is mandatory that a mediator function in secondary brain damage is identified according to the stringent requirements established for that purpose. Glutamate has been shown — as is the case for only a few other agents — to meet all the criteria of a mediator of secon…
