Impact-parameter dependent nuclear parton distribution functions: EPS09s and EKS98s and their applications in nuclear hard processes

2012

We determine the spatial (impact parameter) dependence of nuclear parton distribution functions (nPDFs) using the $A$-dependence of the spatially independent (averaged) global fits EPS09 and EKS98. We work under the assumption that the spatial dependence can be formulated as a power series of the nuclear thickness functions $T_A$. To reproduce the $A$-dependence over the entire $x$ range we need terms up to $[T_A]^4$. As an outcome, we release two sets, EPS09s (LO, NLO, error sets) and EKS98s, of spatially dependent nPDFs for public use. We also discuss the implementation of these into the existing calculations. With our results, the centrality dependence of nuclear hard-process observables…

Cascade of exotic helium atoms

1987

Abstract The cascade of muonic helium and its pressure dependence has been calculated over the whole pressure range from 1×10 −2 to 1×10 3 atm. The calculation does not use any free parameter. The results show good agreement with experimental data.

EPS09s and EKS98s: Impact parameter dependent nPDF sets

2013

In our recent study we have determined two new spatially dependent nuclear PDF (nPDF) sets, EPS09s and EKS98s. With these, the hard-process cross-sections can be calculated in different centrality classes consistently with the globally analyzed nPDFs for the first time. The sets were determined by exploiting the $A$-systematics of the globally fitted nPDF sets, EPS09 and EKS98. For the spatial dependence of the nPDFs we used a power series ansatz in the nuclear thickness function $T_A$. In this flash talk we introduce the framework, and present our NLO EPS09s-based predictions for the nuclear modification factor in four centrality classes for inclusive neutral pion production in p+Pb collis…

Temperature and angular dependence of the upper critical field of UPd2Al3 thin films

1997

Abstract Temperature and angular resolved measurements of the upper critical field Bc2 of UPd2Al3 thin films are presented and compared with new theoretical calculations for weak-coupling s- and d-wave superconductors in the clean limit. In order to take account of the observed anisotropy of the initial slopes near T c , B′ c 2 = −4.9 T/K for B ‖ c and B′ c 2 = −5.8 T/K for B ⊥ c , and the crossing of the phase boundaries in the temperature dependence of Bc2 near T ∗ ≈ 0.75 T/T c , the calculations include anisotropic orbital and paramagnetic pair breaking. Recent speculations upon the occurence of a non-uniform superconducting “Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov”-state are also considered an…

Microscopic description of dissipative dynamics of a level-crossing transition

2011

We analyze the effect of a dissipative bosonic environment on the Landau-Zener-Stuckelberg-Majorana (LZSM) level crossing model by using a microscopic approach to derive the relevant master equation. For an environment at zero temperature and weak dissipation our microscopic approach confirms the independence of the survival probability on the decay rate that has been predicted earlier by the simple phenomenological LZSM model. For strong decay the microscopic approach predicts a notable increase of the survival probability, which signals dynamical decoupling of the initial state. Unlike the phenomenological model our approach makes it possible to study the dependence of the system dynamics…

SEU and MBU Angular Dependence of Samsung and Micron 8-Gbit SLC NAND-Flash Memories under Heavy-Ion Irradiation

2011

The angular dependence of the SEU and MBU cross sections of two 8-Gbit NAND-Flash memories, Samsung and Micron, is measured under Ar, Fe, and Kr irradiation. The omnidirectional sensitivity is calculated based on experimental results.
