RADIOPROTECTION IN 2018: AN UPDATE

2018

Fluoroscopically-guided interventional procedures are performed in large numbers in Europe and in the United States. Radiation doses received by interventional radiologists can vary for the same type of procedure and for similar patient doses. Occupational radiation protection is a necessity whenever radiation is used in the practice of medicine. The International Commission on Radiological Protection is engaging against occupational radiation damages, publishing regular recommendations on dose limits. These limits are expressed as effective doses for the whole body and also as equivalent doses for particular regions or tissues of practitioners’ bodies. Shielding and personal protective clo…

Dairy calcium intake and lifestyle risk factors for bone loss in hiv-infected and uninfected mediterranean subjects

2012

Abstract Background Despite the reported high prevalence of osteoporosis in the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-population, there have been no previous studies examining dairy calcium intake and bone mineral density (BMD) in HIV-subjects. We assessed the prevalence of low BMD in HIV-infected and uninfected subjects and analyzed the effects of calcium intake, lifestyle and HIV-related risk factors on BMD. Methods One hundred and twelve HIV-infected subjects were consecutively enrolled. Seventy- six HIV-uninfected subjects matched for age and sex were enrolled as the control group. The HIV-subjects were interviewed about lifestyle habits and completed a weekly food-frequency questionnaire …

Ipofisi

2012

Liver stiffness quantification in patients with non-alcoholic steatohepatitis: comparison of shear wave elastography and transient elastography with …

2019

Purpose: To assess the accuracy of liver stiffness quantification in patients with non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) using shear wave elastography (SWE) in comparison with transient elastography (TE). Methods and Materials: This is a prospective study performed in a single institution, including 49 patients with histological diagnosis of NASH. The stiffness of the right liver lobe was measured on the same day with two techniques: TE (FibroScan, Echosens), and SWE (RS80A ultrasound system, Samsung Medison). In the SWE evaluation, 11 patients were excluded due to more than 75% measurements fails. Receiver operating curves (ROC), areas under the ROC (AUROC) and 95% confidence intervals (CI)…

Liver stiffness quantification in biopsy-proven nonalcoholic fatty liver disease patients using shear wave elastography in comparison with transient …

2021

Purpose: This study prospectively assessed the performance of liver stiffness measurements using point shear-wave elastography (p-SWE) in comparison with transient elastography (TE) in patients with biopsy-proven nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Methods: Fifty-six consecutive adult patients with a histological diagnosis of NAFLD prospectively underwent TE and p-SWE on the same day. The median of 10 measurements (SWE-10), the first five (SWE-5), and the first three (SWE-3) measurements were analyzed for p-SWE. Liver biopsy was considered as the reference standard for liver fibrosis grade. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves and areas under the ROC curves (AUROCs) were cal…

Diagnosi di osteonecrosi mediante WB-MRI in paziente con Linfoma di Hodgkin resistente trattato con BEACOPP: Case Report.

2016

Hodgkin's lymphoma is a very common haematological neoplasm with high possibilities of response to treatment. On the other hand, therapies are often responsible for clinically relevant complications. Among these is osteonecrosis, generally determined by the high dosages of corticosteroids included in the chemotherapeutic protocols, which lead to bone ischemia through multifactorial mechanisms such as hypercoagulability and increase of intraosseous pressure due to hyperplasia of the adipose component. We report the case of a 29-year-old man with resistant Hodgkin's lymphoma undergoing chemotherapy which determined the appearance of multifocal osteonecrosis detected by Magnetic Resonance whol…
