Burnout, associated comorbidities and coping strategies in French community pharmacies—BOP study: A nationwide cross-sectional study

2016

International audience; Background: work-related stress and burnout syndromes are unfortunately common comorbidities found in health professionals. However, burnout syndrome has only been partly and episodically assessed for community pharmacists whereas these professionals are exposed to patients’ demands and difficulties every day. Prevalence of burnout, associated comorbidities and coping strategies were assessed in pharmacy teams (pharmacists and pharmacy technicians) in French community pharmacies. Methods: This online survey was performed by emails sent to all French community pharmacies over 3 months. The survey assessed the prevalence of burnout (Maslach Burnout Inventory—MBI—questio…

Dissemination of hepatocellular carcinoma is mediated via chemokine receptor CXCR4

2006

In different tumour entities, expression of the chemokine receptor 4 (CXCR4) has been linked to tumour dissemination and poor prognosis. Therefore, we evaluated, if the expression of CXCR4 exerts similar effects in human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Expression analysis and functional assays were performed in vitro to elucidate the impact of CXCL12 on human hepatoma cells lines. In addition, expression of CXCR4 was evaluated in 39 patients with HCC semiquantitatively and correlated with both, tumour and patients characteristics. Human HCC and hepatoma cell lines displayed variable intensities of CXCR4 expression. Loss of p53 function did not impact on CXCR4 expression. Exposure to CXCL12 …

Expression of transketolase TKTL1 predicts colon and urothelial cancer patient survival: Warburg effect reinterpreted

2006

Abstract Tumours ferment glucose to lactate even in the presence of oxygen (aerobic glycolysis; Warburg effect). The pentose phosphate pathway (PPP) allows glucose conversion to ribose for nucleic acid synthesis and glucose degradation to lactate. The nonoxidative part of the PPP is controlled by transketolase enzyme reactions. We have detected upregulation of a mutated transketolase transcript (TKTL1) in human malignancies, whereas transketolase (TKT) and transketolase-like-2 (TKTL2) transcripts were not upregulated. Strong TKTL1 protein expression was correlated to invasive colon and urothelial tumours and to poor patients outcome. TKTL1 encodes a transketolase with unusual enzymatic prop…

A nanomaterial-based breath test for distinguishing gastric cancer from benign gastric conditions

2013

Background: Upper digestive endoscopy with biopsy and histopathological evaluation of the biopsy material is the standard method for diagnosing gastric cancer (GC). However, this procedure may not be widely available for screening in the developing world, whereas in developed countries endoscopy is frequently used without major clinical gain. There is a high demand for a simple and non-invasive test for selecting the individuals at increased risk that should undergo the endoscopic examination. Here, we studied the feasibility of a nanomaterial-based breath test for identifying GC among patients with gastric complaints. Methods: Alveolar exhaled breath samples from 130 patients with gastric …

Experimental and theoretical studies of Stark profiles of Ar I 696.5 nm spectral line in laser-induced plasma

2019

Abstract We report the results of the Stark profile studies of the 696.543 nm Ar I spectral line in laser-induced plasma generated by a nanosecond Nd:YAG laser radiation at 532 nm in argon at reduced pressure. Plasma diagnostics was performed with the use of the laser Thomson scattering method, free from assumptions about the plasma thermodynamic equilibrium, its composition but also independently of plasma emission spectra. The profiles were investigated in wide range of electron densities and temperatures, from 2.81 · 1022 m − 3 to 5.69 · 1023 m − 3 and from 10 430 K to 73 400 K, respectively. Stark profiles were calculated using a semi-classical method as well as by N-body numerical simu…

The Experimental Validation of a New Thermodynamic Method for TDC Determination

2007

In-cylinder pressure analysis is becoming more and more important both for research and development purpose and for control and diagnosis of internal combustion engines; directly measured by means of a combustion chamber pressure transducers or evaluated by analysing instantaneous engine speed [1,2,3,4], incylinder pressure allows the evaluation of indicated mean effective pressure (IMEP), combustion heat release, combustion phase, friction pressure, etc...It is well known to internal combustion engine researchers that for a right evaluation of these quantities the exact determination of Top Dead Centre (TDC) is of vital importance: a 1° error on TDC determination can lead to evaluation err…

Diagnostics for studies of novel laser ion acceleration mechanisms.

2014

Diagnostic for investigating and distinguishing different laser ion acceleration mechanisms has been developed and successfully tested. An ion separation wide angle spectrometer can simultaneously investigate three important aspects of the laser plasma interaction: (1) acquire angularly resolved energy spectra for two ion species, (2) obtain ion energy spectra for multiple species, separated according to their charge to mass ratio, along selected axes, and (3) collect laser radiation reflected from and transmitted through the target and propagating in the same direction as the ion beam. Thus, the presented diagnostic constitutes a highly adaptable tool for accurately studying novel accelera…

The effect of rf pulse pattern on bremsstrahlung and ion current time evolution of an ECRIS.

2010

Time-resolved helium ion production and bremsstrahlung emission from JYFL 14 GHz ECRIS is presented with different radio frequency pulse lengths. rf on times are varied from 5 to 50 ms and rf off times from 10 to 1000 ms between different measurement sets. It is observed that the plasma breakdown occurs a few milliseconds after launching the rf power into the plasma chamber, and in the beginning of the rf pulses a preglow transient is seen. During this transient the ion beam currents are increased by several factors compared to a steady state situation. By adjusting the rf pulse separation the maximum ion beam currents can be maintained during the so-called preglow regime while the amount o…

Laser plasma plume structure and dynamics in the ambient air: The early stage of expansion

2011

Laser ablation plasma plume expanding into the ambient atmosphere may be an efficient way to produce nanoparticles. From that reason it would be interesting to study the properties of these laser induced plasmas formed under conditions that are known to be favorable for nanoparticles production. In general, plume behavior can be described as a two-stage process: a “violent” plume expansion due to the absorption of the laser beam energy (during the laser pulse) followed by a fast adiabatic expansion in the ambient gas (after the end of the laser pulse). Plasma plume may last a few microseconds and may have densities 10−6 times lower than the solid densities at temperatures close to the ambie…

Detection of deuterium retention by LIBS at different background pressures

2017

ITER plans foresee the quantitative diagnostics of fuel retention in reactor walls at near-atmospheric pressures. Using laser induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) for this purpose assumes a reliable resolving of Balmer α-lines of hydrogen isotopes in spectra of plasma produced by focused laser radiation onto the target surface. To develop LIBS for quantitative diagnostics of fuel retention during the maintenance breaks of ITER, the effect of background gas pressure on the laser-induced plasma characteristics has been studied. The background pressure limits the expansion rate of plasma and as a result it leads to higher plasma concentrations. At the same time the limiting factor of the reso…
