Physical and biological properties of electrospun poly( d , l ‐lactide)/nanoclay and poly( d , l ‐lactide)/nanosilica nanofibrous scaffold for bone t…

2021

Electrospun scaffolds exhibiting high physical performances with the ability to support cell attachment and proliferation are attracting more and more scientific interest for tissue engineering applications. The inclusion of inorganic nanoparticles such as nanosilica and nanoclay into electrospun biopolymeric matrices can meet these challenging requirements. The silica and clay incorporation into polymeric nanofibers has been reported to enhance and improve the mechanical properties as well as the osteogenic properties of the scaffolds. In this work, for the first time, the physical and biological properties of polylactic acid (PLA) electrospun mats filled with different concentrations of n…

Spin crossover complexes as building units of hydrogen-bonded nanoporous structures

2009

The paper reports on the synthesis, crystal structure, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and magnetic properties of a spin crossover salt of formula [Fe(bpp)2](cis,cis-1,3,5-Hchtc)·5.5 H2O (1) (bpp = 2,6-bis(pyrazol-3yl)pyridine; cis,cis-1,3,5-Hchtc = monoprotonated cyclohexanetricarboxylate dianion). The salt shows a porous structure with water molecules sitting in the channels. The electronic configuration of the Fe2+ ions is high-spin (HS). Desolvation of 1 yields a material exhibiting an abrupt spin crossover with a thermal hysteresis loop located near room temperature (T1/2↑ = 319 K and T1/2↓ = 309 K). Rehydration of this desolvated salt yields an essentially low-spin (LS) materi…

Effect of high power ultrasound on physical–chemical properties of polypropylene films aimed for food packaging: structure and surface features

2019

International audience; Biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) coated with acrylic/polyvinylidene chloride (BOPPAcPVDC) and biaxially oriented coextruded polypropylene (BOPPcoex) films have been treated with high power ultrasound (HPUS) while submerged in water. Polymer structure and the surface morphology changes were noticed, and obtained results were correlated with the physical properties of tested materials. In anticipation of sonochemically enhanced reactions, physical–chemical profile of film samples was determined using thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, UV spectrophotometry and environmental scanning electron mic…

Halloysite nanotubes with fluorinated cavity: an innovative consolidant for paper treatment

2016

AbstractHybrid material based on halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) and sodium perfluorooctanoate (NaPF8) was used as a consolidant for paper treatment. The consolidation efficiency was determined by thermogravimetry as well as by paper grammage determination. Morphological analysis of the treated paper was performed by means of scanning electron microscopy while the effect of modified HNTs on the thermal behaviour of the cellulose fibres was investigated by differential scanning calorimetry which determined the combustion enthalpy of the paper.Water contact angle measurements were performed to study the paper wettability. The physico-chemical properties investigated (mesoscopic structure, thermal…

Importance of iron and aluminium in rapid and slow combustion of peat

1990

Abstract The effects of Fe and Al on peat combustion and the formation of nitrogen oxides were studied under conditions of rapid combustion in an entrained flow reactor, and under conditions of slow combustion in a thermobalance and a differential scanning calorimeter. Iron had a strong catalytic effect on both the slow and rapid combustion, and it decreased the ratio of N2O to NO in the combustion gases. A decrease in the content of inorganic compounds decreased reactivity, probably because of the decrease in iron content. Aluminium did not have a detectable catalytic effect on the combustion rate but it depressed the formation of nitrogen oxides slightly. The chemical treatment to increas…

The structure and phase transition of tris(n-propylammonium) enneachlorodiantimonate (III),

1996

The crystal structure of at 298 K has been determined (monoclinic, space group Cc, a = 19.464(2) ?, b = 17.736(2) ?, c = 8.116(2) ?, , Z = 4). The structure consists of one-dimensional polyanionic chains extended along the c-axis, and n-propylammonium cations located in elongated cavities formed by polyanions. The cations are connected to chlorine atoms by hydrogen bonds. Differential scanning calorimetry, the temperature dependence of the lattice parameters and static electric permittivity studies revealed a first-order phase transition at K of an `order - disorder' type. It is related to the ordering of n-propylammonium cations that occurs on decreasing the temperature. Debye-like dispers…

Crystal growth and hysteresis phenomena of rubidium tetrachlorozincate Rb2ZnCl4

1988

Abstract Phase transitions in Rb2ZnCl4 crystals grown by various methods are examined with differential scanning calorimetry and dielectric measurements. For most of the studied samples the permittivity along the ferroelectric axis shows a large thermal hysteresis over a wide temperature range including the incommensurate phase and the lock-in point. This hysteresis depends on the presence of different defects which appear during crystal growth or after a thermal and mechanical treatment. It is shown that dielectric measurements are quite well suited to characterize the crystals exhibiting on incommensurate phase and a ferroelectric phase.

Structural characterization, thermal, dielectric, vibrational properties and molecular dynamics of (C5H5NH)3BiCl6

2009

Abstract (C5H5NH)3BiCl6 crystallizes at room temperature in the triclinic space group P 1 ¯ . The crystal is built up of the separated BiCl 6 3 - octahedral anions and pyridinium cations. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and dilatometric measurements disclose structural phase transition of first-order type at 265/302 K (cooling/heating). The dielectric investigations reveal a step-wise change of the electric permittivity at Tc characteristic of the crystals with the high-temperature plastic-like phase. Temperature-dependent infrared spectra for polycrystalline samples have been taken between 20 and 306 K to clarify the cation dynamics contribution to the mechanism of the phase transi…

1994

AbstractThe inclusion behavior of Hydroxypropyl-β-Cyclodextrin (HP-β-Cyd) and of methylated-β-Cyclodextrins, heptakis-(2,6-di-O-methyl)-β-Cyclodextrin (DM-β-Cyd) and heptakis-(2,3,6-tri-O-methyl)-β-Cyclodextrin (TM-β-Cyd), in solution and solid state was compared with that of natural β-Cyclodextrin (β-Cyd) using an anti-inflammatory drug, 4-biphenylacetic acid (BPAA), as a guest molecule. The solubility of BPAA with β-Cyd and β-Cyd derivatives in aqueous solution were determined. Stability constants were calculated by phase solubility method at various pH values and temperatures. The formation of inclusion complexes with β-Cyd and β-Cyd derivatives in the solid slate were confirmed by infra…

Simulataneous application of charge coupled device array-detected Raman spectroscopy and differential scanning calorimetry to in situ investigation o…

1992

The combination of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) with charge coupled device (CCD) array-detected Raman spectroscopy for the in situ investigation of phase transition is illustrated using ammonium nitrate as an example. This method aids unambiguous characterization of different phases by providing a simultaneous probe of thermodynamic and vibrational data. The availability of real-time vibrational data, including both the internal and external mode regions, is unique to array-detected Raman spectroscopy. The intensity changes of the symmetric stretching mode ν1 of the nitrate ions and the lattice vibrations, that accompany the phase transition IV → II of ammonium nitrate, are ratio…
