Vertical Mandibular Alveolar Bone Distraction and Dental Implant Placement: A Case Report

Abstract Extensive bone defects complicate the adequate placement of dental implants and the required angulation. In such cases, alveolar-ridge augmentation techniques such as guided bone regeneration, particulate or block grafting, and alveolar bone distraction are needed. The present study describes a case in which a large vertical bone defect in the anterior mandibular zone was corrected via vertical alveolar bone distraction. Six dental implants were posteriorly placed for implant-supported restoration of the mandible, with early implant loading. The clinical and radiologic control showed good implant and soft tissue conditions 12 months later.

Prenatal diagnosis of congenital cystic adenomatoid malformation using three-dimensional inversion rendering: A case report

We report a case of a congenital cystic adenomatoid malformation of the lung (CCAM). At 12 weeks of gestation, an echogenic lung associated to a hydrothorax was detected. Despite the results of the combined test that informed of a high risk of chromosomopathy, normal karyotype was confirmed after an amniocentesis. The three-dimensional ultrasound inversion mode depicted all the cysts within the fetal lungs as opaque areas that were seen concurrently together, which was compatible with CCAM. After parental counseling, the patient opted to terminate the pregnancy at 18 weeks. Pathological analysis of the lungs confirmed the diagnosis of a CCAM type II. Umbilical cord cysts: evaluation with different 3-dimensional sonographic modes.

Objective. The purpose of this series was to determine whether the use of different 3-dimensional (3D) sonographic modes allows better definition of umbilical cord cysts and pseudocysts in utero. Methods. Two cases of umbilical cord cysts and 1 of a pseudocyst were analyzed and compared with 2-dimensional (2D), 3D, angiopower Doppler, tomographic ultrasound imaging (TUI), virtual organ computer-aided analysis (VOCAL), and automatic volume calculation (AVC) sonographic modes. A finite element-based machine learning approach for modeling the mechanical behavior of the breast tissues under compression in real-time

[EN] This work presents a data-driven method to simulate, in real-time, the biomechanical behavior of the breast tissues in some image-guided interventions such as biopsies or radiotherapy dose delivery as well as to speed up multimodal registration algorithms. Ten real breasts were used for this work. Their deformation due to the displacement of two compression plates was simulated off-line using the finite element (FE) method. Human haarscheiben, epidermal Merkel cell-rich sensory organs of hairy skin, were studied for the expression of various cytokeratin (CK) polypeptides and other epithelial and neuronal differentiation markers by applying immunoperoxidase and immunofluorescence microscopy to frozen sections and by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis. The basal clusters of Merkel cells were specifically detected by antibodies against CK 20.
