Very often, the production of a model and the consequent representation of tridimensional views, in many case studies, as outcome of the research on architecture have been considered. Dimensionless analysis of RC rectangular sections under axial load and biaxial bending

This paper proposes a numerical procedure able to provide ultimate curvature and moment domains of rectangular RC sections subjected to combined axial load and biaxial bending. The formulation is carried out in dimensionless terms in order to give results that are valid for classes of sections characterized by the same values of the geometric and mechanical parameters governing the section response. The role of some of these parameters is investigated here. The results show possible correlations linking the actual values of moment and curvature to the values corresponding to two cases of uniaxial bending to be considered separately. © 2012 Elsevier Ltd.

Experimental Investigation of the Outflow Process over a Triangular Labyrinth-Weir

In this paper, the outflow process from a sharp-crested triangular labyrinth weir is studied. Applying dimensional analysis and the Π theorem, five dimensionless groups, describing the outflow process, are deduced. The measurements, carried out by using sharp-crested weirs placed in a flume, allowed to establish a dimensionless stage-discharge relation. According to this equation, the flow magnification is affected by either the length magnification ratio or head to one cycle width ratio. The proposed equation, which also satisfies two theoretical boundary conditions, was finally tested by using experimental measurements of different reservoir hydraulic models.

Simple flume for flow measurement in sloping open channel

First, this paper presents a new flume for measuring flow discharge in sloping channels, originally proposed by Samani and Magallanez for use in a horizontal channel. The flume is obtained by inserting two semicylinders in a rectangular cross section. Then, using dimensional analysis and the self-similarity theory, the stage-discharge relationship of the flume is theoretically deduced. For determining the two coefficients of the power stage-discharge equation, some experimental runs are carried out using flumes characterized by different values of the contraction ratio (ranging from 0.17 to 0.81) and of the flume slope (ranging from 0.5 to 3.5%). Optimization of the contact surface shape of a shrinkage fit

Amongst many processes existing today for the assembly of two cylindrical parts, the shrinkage fit is commonly used. However, in the calculation methods, the contact surfaces are assumed to be perfect. Therefore, in order to apply these, the standards necessitate very small geometrical tolerances. The objective of the present paper is to show that it is possible to take into account form defects by closely conformed contact modelling and to have a good representation of reality: form defects always exist to an increasing extent and are inherent in all kinds of manufacturing processes. Abstract Over the past three decades, after Hofstede presented his proposal about cultural differences, many authors have presented their dimensions of national culture. The aim of this article is to give a synthesis of the proposal from significant authors and show a set of models of cultural dimensions based on theoretical and pragmatic analysis such as models of Hofstede, Trompenaars, GLOBE, Inglehart, Schartz. Also, examples used in this paper help more to understand the importance of research national culture.

Are Farmers in Alternative Food Networks Social Entrepreneurs? Evidence from a Behavioral Approach

Social entrepreneurship, individual activities with a social objective, is used in this study as a conceptual tool for empirically examining farmers’ participation in alternative food networks (AFNs). This study verifies whether their participation is driven by the social entrepreneurship dimension to satisfy social and environmental needs. We develop a more inclusive view of how social entrepreneurship is present among farmers participating in AFNs by using a behavioural approach based on three main psychological constructs: attitude, objective, and behaviour.
