Crystal structure and Hirshfeld surface analysis of (E)-4-chloro-N-{2-[2-(4-nitrobenzylidene)hydrazin-1-yl]-2-oxoethyl}benzenesulfonamide N,N-di…

2018

Reaction of N-(4-chlorobenzenesulfonyl)glycinyl hydrazide with 4-nitrobenzaldehyde gives the N,N-dimethylformamide monosolvated N-acylhydrazone derivative, (E)-N-{2-[2-(4-nitrobenzylidene)- hydrazine-1-yl]-2-oxoethyl}-4-χhlorobenzenesulfonamide. Rings of (10) and (11) graph-set motifs are formed in the crystal structure by N—H⋯O and C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds. The two-dimensional fingerprint (FP) plots for significant intermolecular interactions indicate that the greatest contribution is from the O⋯H/H⋯O contacts (31.3%), corresponding to N⋯H⋯O/C⋯H⋯O interactions.

Raman spectroscopy of formic acid and its dimers isolated in low temperature argon matrices

2009

Raman spectroscopy combined with matrix isolation technique was employed to study formic acid monomer and its dimers. Nine fundamentals of the HCOOH monomer were identified. Additionally, the OH torsion overtone is observed and it is engaged in Fermi resonance with the δCOH mode. Several bands of the cyclic (C2h) dimer were identified and assigned. The less stable open form (Cs) of the dimer was also present in the experiment. Three intermolecular modes for the cyclic and one mode for the open dimer were found in the low frequency region. The experimental studies were supported by harmonic and anharmonic DFT calculations.

Photolysis of HCOOH monomer and dimer in solid argon: Raman characterization of in situ formed molecular complexes

2010

Raman spectroscopy combined with the matrix isolation technique was employed to study the 193-nm photodecomposition products of formic acid in an argon matrix. The Raman-active fundamentals belonging to the CO(2) + H(2) and CO + H(2)O photoproducts were assigned. Also, bands due to Fermi resonance between the stretching vibration (nu(1)) and the overtone of the bending mode (2nu(2)) of CO(2) were identified. Both ortho- and para-H(2) molecules were identified from their rotational lines S(0)(1) and S(0)(0), respectively. These bands appeared upon matrix annealing as well as after prolonged photolysis. Additionally, photolysis of FA dimers produces oxalic acid and its secondary photoproducts…

From small to medium and beyond: a pragmatic approach in predicting properties of Ne containing structures

2013

In this study, we outlined a pragmatic approach for structural studies leading to better understanding of polycarbon structures using 21Ne as a nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) probe. 21Ne NMR parameters of a single neon atom and its dimer were predicted at the CCSD(T) level in combination with large basis sets. At a lower level of theory, an interaction of neon atom with 1,3-cyclopentadiene ring and with five- and six-membered rings in carbazole was studied using the restricted Hartree–Fock (RHF) and density functional theory (DFT) combined with smaller basis sets. The RHF and DFT modelling of neon interaction with nanosized objects were performed on cyclacenes and selected fullerenes.

Modeling21Ne NMR parameters for carbon nanosystems

2013

The potential of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) technique in probing the structure of porous systems including carbon nanostructures filled with inert gases is analysed theoretically using accurate calculations of neon ((21) Ne) nuclear magnetic shieldings. The CBS estimates of (21) Ne NMR parameters were performed for single atom, its dimer and neon interacting with acetylene, ethylene and 1,3-cyclopentadiene. Several levels of theory including restricted Hartree-Fock (RHF), Moller-Plesset perturbation theory to the second order (MP2), density functional theory (DFT) with van Voorhis and Scuseria's t-dependent gradient-corrected correlation functional (VSXC), coupled cluster with single …

3 He NMR: from free gas to its encapsulation in fullerene

2013

The (3)He nuclear magnetic shieldings were calculated for single helium atom, its dimer, simple models of fullerene cages (He@Cn), and single wall carbon nanotubes. The performances of several levels of theory (HF, MP2, DFT-VSXC, CCSD, CCSD(T), and CCSDT) were tested. Two sets of polarization-consistent basis sets were used (pcS-n and aug-pcS-n), and an estimate of (3)He nuclear magnetic shieldings in the complete basis set limit using a two-parameter fit was established. Theoretical (3)He results reproduced accurately previously reported theoretical values for helium gas, dimer, and helium probe inside several fullerene cages. Excellent agreement with experimental values was achieved. (3)H…

Highly potent artemisinin-derived dimers and trimers: Synthesis and evaluation of their antimalarial, antileukemia and antiviral activities

2015

New pharmaceutically active compounds can be obtained by modification of existing drugs to access more effective agents in the wake of drug resistance amongst others. To achieve this goal the concept of hybridization was established during the last decade. We employed this concept by coupling two artemisinin-derived precursors to obtain dimers or trimers with increased in vitro activity against Plasmodiumfalciparum 3D7 strain, leukemia cells (CCRF-CEM and multidrug-resistant subline CEM/ADR5000) and human cytomegalovirus (HCMV). Dimer 4 (IC50 of 2.6 nM) possess superior antimalarial activity compared with its parent compound artesunic acid(3) (IC50 of 9.0 nM). Dimer5 and trimers6 and 7 disp…

The tetrameric α-helical membrane protein GlpF unfolds via a dimeric folding intermediate.

2011

Many membrane proteins appear to be present and functional in higher-order oligomeric states. While few studies have analyzed the thermodynamic stability of α-helical transmembrane (TM) proteins under equilibrium conditions in the past, oligomerization of larger polytopic monomers has essentially not yet been studied. However, it is vital to study the folding of oligomeric membrane proteins to improve our understanding of the general mechanisms and pathways of TM protein folding. To investigate the folding and stability of the aquaglyceroporin GlpF from Escherichia coli, unfolding of the protein in mixed micelles was monitored by steady-state fluorescence and circular dichroism spectroscopy…

Identification of sequences in the human peptide transporter subunit TAP1 required for transporter associated with antigen processing (TAP) function

2001

The heterodimeric peptide transporter associated with antigen processing (TAP) consisting of the subunits TAP1 and TAP2 mediates the transport of cytosolic peptides into the lumen of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). In order to accurately define domains required for peptide transporter function, a molecular approach based on the construction of a panel of human TAP1 mutants and their expression in TAP1(-/-) cells was employed. The characteristics and biological activity of the various TAP1 mutants were determined, and compared to that of wild-type TAP1 and TAP1(-/-) control cells. All mutant TAP1 proteins were localized in the ER and were capable of forming complexes with the TAP2 subunit. H…

Wild-type Cu/Zn superoxide dismutase stabilizes mutant variants by heterodimerization

2014

Mutations in the gene encoding Cu/Zn superoxide dismutase (SOD1) are responsible for a subset of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis cases presumably by the acquisition of as yet unknown toxic properties. Additional overexpression of wild-type SOD1 in mutant SOD1 transgenic mice did not improve but rather accelerated the disease course. Recently, it was documented that the presence of wild-type SOD1 (SOD(WT)) reduced the aggregation propensity of mutant SOD1 by the formation of heterodimers between mutant and SOD1(WT) and that these heterodimers displayed at least a similar toxicity in cellular and animal models. In this study we investigated the biochemical and biophysical properties of obligate…
