Green extraction techniques in green analytical chemistry

2019

Abstract Green analytical chemistry concept, involving the development of analytical methodologies with an environmental concern, encourages the use of direct analysis to avoid any sample treatment that involves energy and reagent consumption and generation of wastes. However, the determination of target analytes at trace concentration levels or in complex matrices frequently requires previous extraction, pre-concentration, or clean-up steps offering thus, additional possibilities for greening classical methods. So, a green evaluation of alternative extraction techniques to currently used ones for the extraction of solid, liquid, and gaseous samples has been carried out in this study. Moreo…

The role of compliance in Italian banking system

2017

Purpose This paper aims to analyze the role of compliance in Italian banking system and to verify its efficiency in terms of protection of stability and credibility of financial institutions, comparing solutions adopted in other European countries. Design/methodology/approach The research uses a comparative approach by examining the different solutions adopted in other European countries for finding analogies and differences between them. Findings The research has discovered a smaller development of Compliance Function in Italian banks, whose compliance risk frameworks are often still in an experimental stage rather than in other systems banks. SEGMENTACIÓN DEL COMPRADOR A DISTANCIA: UN ANÁLISIS DE LOS MEDIOS INTERNET Y TELEVISIÓN /

2005

An Assessment of Carousel Value-Added Tax Fraud in The European Carbon Market

2017

AbstractThe literature on the European Union Emission Trading System (EU ETS) is by now very rich. Much is known about the efficiency, the effectiveness, and the environmental and distributional impacts of the EU ETS. Less, however, is known about the carousel value-added-tax (VAT) fraud phenomena in the European carbon market. This article evaluates the welfare effects of carousel VAT fraud in the EU ETS using a computable general equilibrium (CGE) analysis. According to our findings, if VAT fraud occurs in the EU ETS, the effects on welfare for the EU Member States are negative, with welfare loss significantly higher than the VAT fraud value. This article also discusses the reverse charge…

A direct impedance tomography algorithm for locating small inhomogeneities

2003

Impedance tomography seeks to recover the electrical conductivity distribution inside a body from measurements of current flows and voltages on its surface. In its most general form impedance tomography is quite ill-posed, but when additional a-priori information is admitted the situation changes dramatically. In this paper we consider the case where the goal is to find a number of small objects (inhomogeneities) inside an otherwise known conductor. Taking advantage of the smallness of the inhomogeneities, we can use asymptotic analysis to design a direct (i.e., non-iterative) reconstruction algorithm for the determination of their locations. The viability of this direct approach is documen…

An Analysis of the Influence of Noneffective Instructions in Linear Genetic Programming

2020

Abstract Linear Genetic Programming (LGP) represents programs as sequences of instructions and has a Directed Acyclic Graph (DAG) dataflow. The results of instructions are stored in registers that can be used as arguments by other instructions. Instructions that are disconnected from the main part of the program are called noneffective instructions, or structural introns. They also appear in other DAG-based GP approaches like Cartesian Genetic Programming (CGP). This article studies four hypotheses on the role of structural introns: noneffective instructions (1) serve as evolutionary memory, where evolved information is stored and later used in search, (2) preserve population diversity, (3)…

From user-generated data to data-driven innovation: A research agenda to understand user privacy in digital markets

2021

Abstract In recent years, strategies focused on data-driven innovation (DDI) have led to the emergence and development of new products and business models in the digital market. However, these advances have given rise to the development of sophisticated strategies for data management, predicting user behavior, or analyzing their actions. Accordingly, the large-scale analysis of user-generated data (UGD) has led to the emergence of user privacy concerns about how companies manage user data. Although there are some studies on data security, privacy protection, and data-driven strategies, a systematic review on the subject that would focus on both UGD and DDI as main concepts is lacking. There…

Values of games with probabilistic graphs

1999

Abstract In this paper we consider games with probabilistic graphs. The model we develop is an extension of the model of games with communication restrictions by Myerson (1977) . In the Myerson model each pair of players is joined by a link in the graph if and only if these two players can communicate directly. The current paper considers a more general setting in which each pair of players has some probability of direct communication. The value is defined and characterized in this context. It is a natural extension of the Myerson value and it turns out to be the Shapley value of a modified game.
