This article presents the results of the analysis of three sets of texts concerning the issue of refugees in various periods of history. Their subject matter concerns Eastern refugees from the former German territories, the so-called refugees from GDR (East Germany) and modern international refugees. The purpose of this article is to find answers to the following questions: 1. How is the refugee problem linguistically expressed in the selected collection of texts? 2. What characteristics do newspapers give to refugees and how are they judged? 3. What differences and similarities can be observed in the description of the issues concerning refugees based on the selected collections of texts?

Este artículo analiza la exclusión e inclusión de acontecimientos y actores sociales en la representación de los sucesos del 11 de septiembre en Nueva York en la prensa digital latinoamericana. Se utiliza el análisis crítico del discurso siguiendo los principios establecidos por Van Dijk (1990, 1997, 1998). La muestra está conformada por 509 noticias seleccionadas de la cobertura noticiosa de diecisiete periódicos digitales latinoamericanos, desde el 12 hasta el 16 de septiembre. In this article the author analyses components of the epistemic modality, by means of which a student assesses the accuracy of views presented during the oral matriculation examination in the Polish language. “Can do!” Teacher Promotion of Optimism in Response to Student Failure Expectation Expressions in Classroom Discourse

This study offers detailed observational analyses of how teachers use optimism as an instructional resource when responding to students’ failure expectation displays in classroom situations. The results were based on video-recordings of 25 lessons in two Finnish part-time special education settings, analysed by means of applied conversation analysis. The results showed that the teachers boosted optimism by inverting students’ negative utterances, giving examples of successful experiences of peers, offering praise for students’ earlier performance or focusing on problems through instructional support. The aim of this dissertation is to qualitatively describe and explain bad leader- ship and the role of the bad leader within. The dissertation consists of five orig- inal articles and the introductory section. The study is based on the foundation formed by research on bad leadership and research on discourse analysis. The focus is on the role of language in the construction, reconstruction and mainte- nance of meanings.
