Angular Regioselectivity in the Reactions of 2-Thioxopyrimidin-4-ones and Hydrazonoyl Chlorides : Synthesis of Novel Stereoisomeric Octahydro[1,2,4]t…

The regioselective synthesis of cis and trans stereoisomers of variously functionalized octahydro[1,2,4]triazolo[4,3-a]quinazolin-5-ones was performed. The 2-thioxopyrimidin-4-ones used in the synthesis reacted with hydrazonoyl chlorides in a regioselective manner to produce the angular regioisomers [1,2,4]triazolo[4,3-a]quinazolin-5-ones rather than the linear isomers [1,2,4]triazolo[4,3-a]quinazolin-5-ones. The synthesis process took place with electronic control. The angular regiochemistry of the products was confirmed by X-ray experiments and two-dimensional NMR studies.

Tässä pro gradu -tutkielmassa käydään läpi Knowledge Discovery in Databases (KDD) -prosessi ja sen soveltamismahdollisuuksia fyysiseen aktiivisuuteen liittyvän datan kanssa. KDD-prosessi koostuu monesta eri vaiheesta, sisältäen esikäsittelyn, datan muunnoksen ja tiedonlouhinnan. Tässä tutkielmassa tiedonlouhinnan menetelmänä käytetään klusterointia, joka käydään läpi yksityiskohtaisesti. Vertailemme myös laajan joukon eri klusterointi indeksejä (CVAIs) sekä niiden eri toteutuksia k-means klusteroinnin kanssa ja esittelemme parhaat näistä yleisemmässä muodossa. Enzyme Inhibition Microassays on Blu-Ray Disks for Drug Discovery

[EN] An enzyme inhibition-based assay for drug discovery developed by microarraing on Blu-ray disks is presented. As a proof-of-concept, the system screens a selected molecule library of potential chemical inhibitors against the glycoenzyme peroxidase, identifying the promising lead compounds with high selectivity using standard Blu-ray disks and drives. In order to face the first drug discovery stages, we establish the bases for a high-throughput screening assay and a methodology based on hypersurfaces suitable to manage a high number of data as well.

In Vitro Modulation of P-Glycoprotein Activity by Euphorbia intisy Essential Oil on Acute Myeloid Leukemia Cell Line HL-60R

Euphorbia species have a large spectrum of traditional medicinal uses. We tested the biological activities of the essential oil (EO) of Euphorbia intisy Drake in an acquired multidrug resistance leukemia model to assess whether the EO obtained by hydrodistillation of stems was able to reverse the resistant phenotype. HL-60R cell lines are characterized by the overexpression of P-glycoprotein (P-gp), inhibitors of apoptosis proteins (IAPs) and constitutive expression of NF-κB. cis-regulatory variation modulates susceptibility to enteric infection in the Drosophila genetic reference panel

Abstract Background Resistance to enteric pathogens is a complex trait at the crossroads of multiple biological processes. We have previously shown in the Drosophila Genetic Reference Panel (DGRP) that resistance to infection is highly heritable, but our understanding of how the effects of genetic variants affect different molecular mechanisms to determine gut immunocompetence is still limited. New Insight on Archaeological Metal Finds, Nails and Lead Sheathings of the Punic Ship from Battle of the Egadi Islands

The wreck of the Punic ship exhibited at the Archaeological Park of Lilybaeum (Marsala, Italy) is a unique example in the world. In this paper, the investigation of some metal finds (30 nails and 3 fragments of sheathings) belonging to the wreck of the Punic ship is reported. Portable X-ray fluorescence and Raman spectroscopy allowed us to identify the elements and compounds constituting them and make some deductions about their composition. X-ray diffractometry, polarised optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy of the collected micro-samples allowed us to explain the degradation that occurred in the underwater environment.

Sexual dysfunctions in people with schizophrenia are more severe than in the general population and are an important element in the treatment of schizophrenia. The mechanism of sexual dysfunction in patients treated for schizophrenia may be related to the side effects of antipsychotic drugs (hyperprolactinemia, suppression of the reward system), but it may also be related to the pathogenesis of schizophrenia itself.
