This work was developed at the “R-Lab” project, a workshop that was experimentally promoted by the University of Palermo (teachers, students and researchers) during the academic years 2010-11 and 2011-12. Workshop participants collected and elaborated analysis and proposals in an interdisciplinary and multi-level way (PhD, degree thesis, co-financed research) with lessons, seminars and applied research. A Gamified Mobility Experience

We believe in the use of urban games to define new enjoyable experiences, change citizens’ unsustainable habits and educate them to new environment-and social-friendly ones. This paper presents MUV, an innovative action that has the power to engage citizens and foster sustainable mobility behaviors. MUV complements engaging HMIs with a participatory method within an iterative innovation process called the virtuous cycle (understand, involve, co-create, implement, experiment). The innovation process has led to a new game dynamic: Mobility as a Sport. It results in a rewarding personal mobility experience; the same rewarding sensations the athletes feel when they improve their results.

Tutti i suoi numeri sono piccoli, quelli che ne definiscono l’area, il perimetro, l’altitudine, le distanze, gli abitanti; ma questi sono inversamente proporzionali all’importanza della sua storia, quella di una terra emersa, residuo di un esteso apparato vulcanico che vive inabissato sotto il mare. Ustica (from the latin ustum= burned, volcanic wreckage) is a small island in the Mediterranean Sea. It has an area of about 87 hectares and a perimeter of about 12 km. It has volcanic origins and represents only a small part of a complex volcanic apparatus involving also the underwater mountain “Anchise”.
