Coordination in a multi-cell multi-antenna multi-user W-CDMA system: a beamforming approach
2008
The problem of designing joint power control and optimal beamforming (JPCOB) algorithms for the downlink of a coordinated multi-cell WCDMA system is considered throughout this paper. In this case, the JPCOB design is formulated as the problem of minimizing the total transmitted power in the coordinated multi-cell system, subject to a certain quality of service requirement for each user. In this paper, the performance of two JPCOB algorithms based on different beamforming approaches is compared over the coordinated multi-cell system. The first one, obtains local beamformers by means of the well-known virtual uplink-downlink duality. In contrast, the second algorithm implements multi-base bea…
The effect of N-tetradecyl-N,N-dimethylamine oxide micelles on the kinetics of the electron transfer reaction of Ce(IV) with substituted malonic acids
2009
Abstract The kinetics of the oxidation of malonic acid and (its substituted compounds, methyl-, ethyl-, butyl- and benzyl-malonic acid) by ceric ions has been studied at 20.0 °C in the absence and the presence of the surfactant N-tetradecyl-N,N-dimethylamine oxide (C 14 DMAO). The addition of increasing amounts of C 14 DMAO influences the rate of the redox process to an extent that significantly depends on the hydrophobicity of the reducing species. The reactivity data together with the estimated binding constants and the standard transfer free energies of the malonic acids from water to the micelles suggest that the malonic acid is confined to the aqueous pseudo-phase while for the other s…
Profesors Dr. habil. philol. Jānis Valdmanis : biobibliogrāfija
2008
Latvijas Universitātes profesora (1997) Latvijas Zinātņu akadēmijas korespondētājlocekļa (1997) Dr. habil. philol. (1996), Latviešu valodas institūta direktora (1992-2004), ilggadējā Valsts valodas aģentūras direktora, Atzinības krusta komandiera (2022) Jāņa Valdmaņa biobibliogrāfijā apkopoti viņa publicēto zinātnisko, populārzinātnisko, rediģēto, sastādīto un recenzēto darbu, viņa vadībā izstrādāto disertāciju, kā arī interviju bibliogrāfiskie apraksti; norādīta arī literatūra par viņa dzīvi, zinātnisko un pedagoģisko darbību. Bibliogrāfija veidota, respektējot autora izvēli gan materiāla atlasē, gan dalījumā tematiskās nodaļās, hronoloģiski aptverot laika posmu no 1971. gada līdz 2008. g.…
Quantitative comparison of motion history image variants for video-based depression assessment
2017
Abstract Depression is the most prevalent mood disorder and a leading cause of disability worldwide. Automated video-based analyses may afford objective measures to support clinical judgments. In the present paper, categorical depression assessment is addressed by proposing a novel variant of the Motion History Image (MHI) which considers Gabor-inhibited filtered data instead of the original image. Classification results obtained with this method on the AVEC’14 dataset are compared to those derived using (a) an earlier MHI variant, the Landmark Motion History Image (LMHI), and (b) the original MHI. The different motion representations were tested in several combinations of appearance-based …
Effects of halloysite content on the thermo-mechanical performances of composite bioplastics
2020
Abstract The aim of this study is the design and preparation of Mater-Bi/halloysite nanocomposite materials that could be employed as bioplastics alternative to the petroleum derived products. The biocomposite materials at variable halloysite content (from 0 to 30 wt%) were prepared by using the solvent casting method. We investigated the mechanical behaviour and the thermal properties of the prepared nanocomposites in order to estimate their suitability as biocompatible packaging materials. The thermo-mechanical characteristics were correlated to the nanocomposites' morphologies, which were studied by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). As a general result, the physico-chemical performance…
Facility management, outsourcing and contracting overview
2009
The discipline of facility management has basically originated from the experience of the field and most of the business models are driven from the American market. The majority of surveys agree that organizational objectives vary according to different business environments. The link between a given company and its facility management department has been studied in details with a widespread agreement on the importance of tailoring to the specific context the facility management organizational model and the approach to the relationships with suppliers. In Europe two Technical Committees of the Comite Europeen de Normalisation (CEN) are currently adding to the body of knowledge terminologies…
Burtnieku svītas smilšaino nogulumu sastāvs un veidošanās apstākļi Svētupes atsegumos
2016
Bakalaura darbā tiek pētīti vidusdevona Živetas stāva, Burtnieku svītas smilšainie nogulumieži un to veidošanās apstākļi, Svētupes labā krasta Lībiešu upuralu atsegumos pie Kuiķuļu mājām. Darbā apkopota pieejamā informācija par Burtnieku svītas nogulumiežiem, to tekstūrām un sedimentoģenēzi. Pētījumā veikta granulometriskā analīze, ģeoloģiskā griezuma sastādīšana un slīpslāņojumu mērījumi – paleostraumju tecēšanas virziena interpretācijai. Salīdzinot šī darba rezultātus ar iepriekšējo pētījumu datiem, secināts, ka Burtnieku svītas nogulumi Lībiešu upuralu atsegumā veidojušies fluviālajā kanālā sauszemes – jūras pārejas zonā. Dominējošās gultnes reljefa formas ir pa kanālu migrējošas zemūden…
Carotid restenosis is associated with plasma ADMA concentrations in carotid endarterectomy patients
2011
Abstract Background: The aim of this work has been to study the association between plasma asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) concentrations and carotid stenosis in a group of 64 patients undergoing carotid endarterectomy (CEA). Methods: Arginine, ADMA and symmetric dimethylarginine (SDMA) were measured using capillary electrophoresis with UV detection. An evaluation of plasma concentrations of total cysteine (tCys) and total homocysteine (tHcy) was also performed. Results: Pearson’s analysis show a positive correlation between ADMA and carotid stenosis (r=0.37, p=0.003), which is also confirmed after stepwise multiple linear regression analysis. ADMA plasma concentrations were significantl…
